Did Shinji ever annoy you? I see a lot of Shinji hate online about him running away and not being a man I guess.
Personally, there wasn't a single instance where I thought to myself that he's a pussy and I was never really annoyed at his decision making given the context of his mental state.

Never understood this. Shinji is one of the few characters in anime that tried to tell the plot to go fuck itself and he won't pilot the stupid robot to fight the monster of the day. Let someone else deal with this shit.

I enjoyed how he brought forth the third impact in the movies.

Nope, you aren't alone :))

Asuka annoyed me to the core throughout the series, except in The End of Eva. But in all the movies and in the main series she drove me crazy. I actually couldn't stand seeing her, she always shows off and ruins the scene.

I don't hate her but she's really not my type. She's also a factor among many others, in the reason why I gave 2 to the third Eva movie, I actually had a nervous state towards her, and besides that there are many things that influenced me to reach this opinion about the movie, but I can't write them, there are a lot :))))

So, I don't blame her but I don't support her either!

Nah I still like Shinji (even if some of his actions are questionable). It’s understandable on why he feels insecure and considering the pressure put into him to control the EVA and to basically protect humanity, can you blame him? (Except the hospital scene, I won’t speak further on that)

Well, I believe he takes some questionable actions, like the hospital scene for example. But most people only hate him purely because they end up seeing his most pathetic side in the character and start to hate him. I don't believe this hatred is completely unjustified, but it is exaggerated, if you take into account the events that occur with it. That being said, Shinji is my favorite character.

I'm just gonna say it, Shinji is insanely brave and strong willed, even though he wants and tries to give up he doesn't, to break him it was literally needed
-the death of one of his mentors and the subsequent depression of his other one
-being forced to watch one of his best friends get almost killed and feeling like he's the one to blame
-his crush trying to kill herself
-his best friend dying
-realising his best friend was a clone of his mother and she doesn't remember him

And even after all of this he stood up against Kowaru... If to break you it was needed to make suffer all of this and then having to kill the only person you felt true love from (not even including everything before the show) then congratulations you are one hell of a strong willed and insanely brave person

I had enough with Shinji slander, he's one of the most insanely brave and strong anime characters ever

I learned many years after watching the show that Shinji was a "troubled teen", and I have no idea why anyone believes that unless they're living some perfect world where neither parents has died, both parents were in a perfect marriage, they have no nervous disorders, or they were never bullied for any reason. At least one of these things seem VERY likely to happen to most people growing up. they still don't give Shinji a good reason why he shouldn't want to at least try to save a city from complete annihilation. or was I suppose to believe he was suicidal? Then it'd make sense why he wouldn't get in the robot.

I personally never hated him but I don't think it is unreasonable to hate Shinji. Using the excuse that he is a "troubled teen" doesn't work cuz he is a fictional character that exists to entertain the viewer and if someone doesn't find him enterntaing then they have every right to hate him.

In my own experience I do come to empathize with Shinji, since I can understand his desire to be appreciated by people.
But at the same time Shinji seems selfish to me and does stupid impulsives shit.
Still, he is one of my favorite characters.

Ma guy, you are so right!! I mean, they usually care about the more pro-active because we expect them to be, western stories don't portray male protagonist in peril, only a dose of it to make them look muscular and be peak males. Shinjj is a fav character of mine, because i had the same issues ( not including nor denying the existence and use of angels that are our cousins be genetics) he's relatable. Usually when character deviate of their expected-by-society-role. I try to understand what the author (or director) have to say. I don't interpret for my convenience, I try to understand their's. Of course, Shinji is relatable to girls, for example:
1. His androgynous
2. His lack of Traits in masculinaty-obsessed men
3. His emotional state is the core, the story of and the message of the show you can't ignore shinji for Rei or Asuka, and usually emotional arcs are with fm characters, Shinji is special because his existance forces men to look at the "weaker side" which girls tend to understand more so than boy ( Ive realized how that sounds but notheless boys are smart too)
Shinji is a mirror of what boys dont like in themselves or don't wish to become. Perhaps, our Dear Anno gave a warning of what NOT TO DO.
