Beautiful episode.
Its hard to change your belief when you have researched it your entire life, always fought for it, It was difficult for Piast to let go the Key from his hand.
And Piast died doing his favourite thing.... stargazing.
Also when Jolenta mentions about how Reading and Writing is a miracle, it really is,
The fact that we can read, know, about a person, an ideology, across Space and Time is astonishing.

‘Reading is like a miracle’ .... Quite an appropriate description!

He dedicated himself to his work, with the wishes of those that came before him. To think that he expressed doubt in his ability to complete the work in time. Wow. Welp, perfectly can imagine an old man in tears about his work going to waste. Perfecting the cosmos is a herculean endeavor.

Let the showdown commence over models. Settling it all on Venus appearing fully. It's a very simple condition really, which only increases tensions. Although even if he were to see, feel actually proving what he saw would take another wave of convincing.

That moment in the night where they found the truth. Old man has to cry it out. But hey, they found what they were looking for. Jolenta truly the writing nerd.

Despite it all, I can't be completetly mad at Piast's initial stubborness. It's not just that he wants to believe his work is correct, but a big part of it comes from wanting so desperately to believe his predecessor's research was right too and that it wasn't a complete waste of time the way the Professor felt it was towards his end. Piast knows deep down that day that he saw something in the sky that disproved his master's work, but its the sort of love and admiration towards your scientific colleagues that will allow you to turn the other cheek for any errors in a person's lifetime of work.

Side note: I really appreciate that Oczy is still an important part of the scientific process even if he doesn't have the education of a scholar. With his fantastic eyesight, Badeni, Jolenta and Piast still need him to continue their work. I like that people who don't necessarily have a background in higher academia can still be involved and contribute greatly.

This anime does something to me. We all know and take it as fact that the sun is the center of our universe. And yet, even I was on the edge of my seat hoping alongside Oczy to see Venus in its final form haha. Its a wonderful show that gets me fully immersed in its world, I want it to receive more love.

Of course, it's not the Moon, Laika, Nosferatu, but Tycho Brahe can be seen in Count Piast and his uncle. A noble aristocrat who devoted himself entirely to astronomy, which was outrageous at the time. He collected the most accurate observation tables on the basis of which many later worked. According to legend, he died with the words: "Life has not been lived in vain," the uncle in the series is the opposite, but the phrase is similar. Before his death, he asked his student to support his geocentric (no longer classical Ptolemaic, but hybrid) one. That's just it was Kepler, who deduced the laws of his own name, mathematically confirmed heliocentrism, and then became the basis of the universal law of attraction.

@phantomfandom Don't know if "anti-religious" is the right word. It's more like an "anti-dogmatic" situation, and embracing both science and religion.
@BIGDnDGirl Agree 100%.
Its not like the makers of this, care about religious, the Japanese are very irreligious despite being spiritual and their cultural main religion is Budism. Despite having a very small christian minority. But, they make a amazing job of putting us in the mindset of the people of the time, showing how they saw science and the church and even deletes that old concept that the church was only ignorance and there was no science behind it (even the Big Bang theory was made by a catholic priest). And even make a amazing beautiful explanation why they are using science to show God work.

It's sad that Jolenta won't be involved in the research anymore. At last, this is going to keep her safe tho.

Truth prevails. The venus scene was good and the final scene too. Would be sad if Jolenta really doesn't get involved further but don't think that's gonna happen.

This series has been very good, even completely side characters for a couple episodes can have impact with the way they've been written and executed here like with Piast and their tragic story in this episode, all the way to the very end. For someone who has been looking for a satisfying seinen anime and not impressed with stuff like Vinland Saga, this has been hitting a craving I've been waiting to be satisfied for years now for the time being.

I'll probably say this many times, but the soundtrack adds so much to the story. The atmosphere that Ushio's tracks create is unparalleled.

Bloody hell this story keeps giving. Count Piast has such a tragic fate but one that is so poetic and that closes his life in the best way possible: I suppose it is better to die with the truth than to die believing a lifelong lie. It's also great to finally see Oczy be motivated in something new and that he lives up to his name (meaning eyes)

Towards the end Badeni mentioned that Jolenta is free from accusation if the two ever get caught... I dearly hope this isn't foreshadowing however with the death counter this show has had it's never safe.
Jolenta has dealt with one problem, now her father awaits... it feels like he has caught on already by his ability to detect suspicious behaviour. Also cannot wait for his realization and potential connection of Jolenta's interests and mindset with Rafal's.
Can't wait for more

What an episode! I loved introducing the idea that even if you spent your entire life in pursuit of a wrong belief, it can still be useful to someone down the road. It contributes to the “stepping stone” theme of this show. We benefit from the failures of people in the past, because without them it would be impossible to move forward. I loved seeing the experiment with Venus in this episode as well, because it’s accurate to real scientific methods of investigation. You have a hypothesis (or you want to disprove someone else’s hypothesis), so you come up with an experiment to test it. And lastly, I really hope Jolenta stick around. She is such a good character. (9.5/10)

Piast being entrusted more of his professor's archives detailing the secret recordings of the universe, and through deduction that he finds it hard to complete the examination of the cosmos (which was based on Aristole and the Holy Scripture), and the failings of the research he did that could invalidate his entire being, it's the same situation towards the young men and Jolenta now.

Piast giving the three people a chance to disprove his theory that Venus is in its "final phase", it's a long shot of a gamble proving that Earth is in the center of the universe once the night beckons, and Venus being visible in the sky for the few hours it shone from Earth.

This is irrefutable evidence that Venus revolves round the Sun, but Earth also moved at the glance of which it did, thereby proving that heliocentrism is the unmistakable truth, and both Piast and his professor's work over the decades, all wrong. This is where Jolenta part ways with the men, but not before proving that their work is the miracle of which she's expected to come to both know and see of its majesty.

Sad to see Piast go, he's been the benefactor for the three people all along, finding the truth about heliocentrism, as he wines on his death.

Piast's story was really good. Finding out that his entire life of learning and research was for nothing really sucks, and when he started crying, my eyes teared up too.

It’s pretty ironic that the audacity he was so proud of was the very thing he lacked. But he was lucky to learn the truth, and as for his work it will never be a waste. It will be used for the sake of the truth.
