Aki Murasame, a Mecha-ude user, transfers into Hikaru's class under the pretext of protecting Alma. She belongs to an organization called ARMS and constantly follows Hikaru and Alma around. Hikaru, worn out from these daily events, seems exhausted. Meanwhile, a major corporation called the Kagami Group, which strips Mecha-ude of their free will and uses them as weapons, is also targeting Alma. |

The studio spent 8 years animating this anime and forgot to write an interesting story. I wouldn't say this show is bad, but it's not good either, it's just mediocre. I'll watch a few more episodes and if nothing interesting happens, I'll probably drop it. |

Man I hate how underrated this show is. Sawano and sennarin on the OP, Yamamoto and Sawano on the OST .. trigger vibes and a real passion project. This is amazing. It might not have the polish and flashy art of a big budget anime, but the love and attention that went it is undeniable. Aki and Hikaru going to school together is so dope, I didn’t expect that many misunderstandings with Shirayama, so soon though, lmao. I really like these stories where the protagonist gets unknowingly dragged into a massive conflict and Hikaru definitely found himself in the thick of things with Kagami goons after he and Aki today. They might be at each other’s throats in school, but when things are on the line they showed today they can work together. I still think Aki’s mechaude arms coming from under her skirt looks a lil weird lmao. Guess it’s meant to be a bit of fanservice for the thigh gooners but it looks odd. Fight was dope tho, seems like this episode had more Sawano whereas last week was more Yamamoto up until the big fight at the end. Can’t wait for this OST to drop. They definitely got me there at the end, thought Hikaru would get the ARMS invite and they’re like nah, we just need the mech arm lmao. |

I am so confused. What is Aki trying to do? Was she really about to kill Hikaru when Alma is somehow linked to them. He explained it to her just a few minutes ago, and she thought the best course of action would be to kill him and deal with whatever consequences that brings after? And then suddenly when someone else is trying to kill Hikaru, she steps in to stop them? Why didn't she grab Alma? Hikaru was knocked unconscious for a while, she could've grabbed Alma. She even saved him from getting crushed, but why? The writing is all over the place Also, you're gonna tell me that sniper missed both of her shots aimed at Hikaru... LOL not only that but she left Hikaru throw Alma to her, and let him get close before firing at all, despite standing still for like 30 seconds Might be dropping this one here, not sure yet. Might give the next episode a chance before deciding |

Being hunted down is definitely not a lot of fun. Aki is there to protect them even if they don't get along. Tous & Wallen are dangerous opponents, there could be even stronger opponents waiting in the future. I am definitely worried about the kid in the end that got Ouroboros. |

The action and music are really top-notch so far. The characters are a little more on the side of caricature, though. if Ouroboros, mentioned at the end, is an "artifical" mechanical arm, does that mean these things are naturally occurring? I guess that'd explain why they have their own wills, and the need to use shackles. |

School isn't safe anymore for Hikaru as Aki's willing to chase him even to the restroom due to her mission with no regards about how she's looked upon. Meri certainly noticed this but in a romantic twist she lead both to an abandoned building so that they would "sort things out" and they did... though not in the way she expected them to. With now 2 organizations fighting against each other for the rights of the Mecha-ude, Hikaru stands in the middle as a liability. Can he get out of this predicament or will he get deeper and more connected with Alma? The latter, obviously. |

Lacking a lot of info but Alma seems to be special and they need his power but the guy doesn't do anything? That'll prolly change but a different approach than the usual instant becoming the saviour of the world. |

2 episodes in gives me more insight on what the storytelling is going for. Hikaru is a cheap knockoff of Shinji from NGE. Cheap in the sense that the creator doesn't like certain character traits of Shinji so she (yes, she) tries to create a version of Shinji that isn't as awful. The problem is the entire storytelling team doesn't get what makes Shinji compelling. First of all, NGE is different enough from the real world to put a barrier between the MC's of NGE and the "real" Japanese experience. It's perfectly feasible after an apocalypse for a regular kid to see crazy Kaiju blowing stuff up and say he doesn't want any part off it. For a sane person, you could even call it normal. Shinji's decisions make him unlikeable, but relatable in it's own way. Hikaru misses the plot. Because Hikaru lives in a world closer to our own, with regular concerns like giving up a seat to a pregnant woman or following school rules. What I get from the story so far is the creator doesn't like power fantasies where a guy gets a chance to be the coolest guy in the room. It fundamentally clashes with what most guys believe in, ESPECIALLY little boys and high schoolers. Worse yet, there is no compelling reason for why Hikaru is the opposite of a normal guy. Which leaves the plot of this anime with an uncompelling character that has to be coerced into saving the day even when all the reasons for him to "fight corruption" or even "resist his fate" are laid out in front of him. If I go back to Shinji, he himself was based off of Amuro Ray, another kid who was forced to do stuff to save the day. But he didn't mess around for three episodes because the stakes of the story forced him to get his stuff together. Which leads to my other issue with the story so far. The world and the plot need to support your character if you are trying to do your own thing and subvert stereotypes. Specifically, to subvert a stereotype, you have to first convincingly embody the thing you want to tear down. But first a relevant tangent. This episode introduced 3 more stereotypical characters. 1 is a normal badass assassin lady, in the style of monster of the week. The big thing about her that sticks out is that she is supposedly "willing to even kill children for the sake of the mission." Except she herself looks like a child. Also, what self respecting assassin needs to explain why killing a high school boy is evil? The second character is the purple haired girl. I don't care to type her name because she is just every big boobed girl next door that exists to talk the MC into doing what he needs to do. Also, to add levity without the fanservice these characters usually provide to the story. Most likely, because this character was written by a woman who doesn't like these characters always being used for fanservice. The third character also doesn't deserve to have his name typed out either. He is just the prototypical perverted character, except stripped of all his perversion and also for some reason, any charisma. He also exists because the writer (writers) think characters like him make stories more interesting, but their perversion does not. A big issue I have with this animes storytelling is that the anime cares more about being anti stuff guys like and do than it does about telling a solid story. It's not rocket science. If you don't like a character like Shinji Ikari, just don't put him in your story. Or alternatively, do the same thing Anno did with Amuro Ray and create another character who is distinct enough that it doesn't matter if he is a cutout of another character. Your storytelling can't just focus on all the stuff you didn't like in the anime you watched before mixed with cardboard cutouts of characters you thought were cool. What makes me saddest about this anime is there were two anime that came out this year that followed stereotypical guy and girl stereotypes and flamed out because the story was hot garbage. One was Metallic Rouge, where BONES usually has enough episodes to expand stereotypical characters into something a bit more but instead died in a blaze of glory because it only had 12 episodes to tell a story that needed 24 episodes at minimum. The other was Roze of the Recapture, an anime that failed because a hack script writer who has been ruining great anime concepts with boring stereotypical characters somehow got a chance work with the Code Geass IP. Both of these anime had no interest in subverting stereotypes. Both of them had excessive ecchi fanservice. Both of them had mostly male staff that focused on things that don't work and failed because of it. Anime severely needs new voices that tell new types of stories, and all these shoujo anime I've been watching this year leads me to believe that a story from a more feminine point of view can run laps around the competition. But it only works if the story is worth your time, and this anime is not. Finally, let me end on a bit of hope. I play Trails in the Sky JRPGs. The love giving a bunch of super stereotypical characters and forcing you to interact in their boring world. Because the games are so long, eventually the story starts changing in little then big ways to show the way these character organically change into characters that are more loveable. This works because of the games runtime, but is basically impossible in the 2024 production committee model anime has fallen into. This anime has decent animation at times and some pretty impressive VA's. I believe enough people read the entire story to believe in what the creators vision is and support her in getting it out there. Perhaps, the creator even believes that fans that actually stick around till the story really gets going will end up being money throwing megafans, a short sighted a way of thinking that is perfectly valid. I feel that way about Dark Gathering and Radiant, anime that took their sweet time getting to the good stuff before blowing me away. Those anime also had the advantage of having charismatic characters pick up the slack until the story could get on its feet. I will happily spend money on both of them. Maybe this anime is a butterfly inside its cocoon, waiting to break out and spread its wings. I may just give this anime a chance to see if the story can at least be compelling in it's own right. In the meantime, I will recommend another anime, Nobunagun. Similar to this anime, a kid get dragged into a world they never knew about and have to fight to save the world. Except the kid is a girl, and the fanservice is fairly restrained. Both of these anime subvert tropes, but mangaka and the scriptwriter for the anime put the story before taking out stuff they don't like. It's a short anime based on a short manga, but a fun time if your into that kind of thing. |

It's fine, it's fun, I guess. This anime is full of tropes that we already saw, but it's not bad by any means. I love the art style, and the animation is still great in episode 2 (yes, we fell to the point where this is important). The protagonist is shallow, in my opinion. Alma is stealing the spot of the main protagonist for me. I love antagonists and great designs. Overall, for now, this anime is like 6.5/10. I hope the plot will be more than just "we will beat the hell out of these bad guys and defend the rights of mechanical arms/weapons/robots, whatever it is because we are the good guys. |

Urgh! I want to like this show so badly, but it is just giving me almost nothing to work with! With how gorgeous the show is to look at, I don't even think I'd need that much to like it. I am totally up for watching Shaman King or something again, it doesn't need to be something complex, but at least give me SOMETHING. The worst part is that the characters also just aren't compelling at all either; Aki seems like she could be fun, but the show's story is actively resisting her actually taking up the spotlight. Luckily, that will likely change as the story progresses. I'll stick with the show for a while yet, but it is really making it a frustrating watch so far when it feels like this show could have so much more to offer than it currently does. I don't want it to just be "mediocre" or "okay." |

TBH, the MC feels kinda like he has too much overly emo reactions... LOL Which is ironic, since the beginning of the series had him viewed like a shy guy that's afraid to take action or react... . Also... the school romantic target girl that would have probably ended up with MC is now acting like a wingman and destroying her own chance. (by way of multiple misunderstandings) And the bad guys... are... comedic oriented huh... they're literally just here to be a Joke But the actual bad guy is just revealing, who apparently stole a human-made Mecha (instead of it being "alien" from outer space and thus limoted) (yet again, more Transformer style plot) . BTW... how is MC... gonna wash that shirt Alma is stuck on? LOOOL And... the mecha-arm being stuck on the shirt is purely useless huh... since the arm loses power if he gets too far away from MC... meaning he still have to be on or near MC to do anything... but being on a shit just makes it so the mecha-arm can be easily taken away by anyone... lol... |

They definitely got me there at the end, thought Hikaru would get the ARMS invite and they’re like nah, we just need the mech arm lmao.

@Marinate1016 Agreed, this show is fucking awesome, creative, the character design, color scheming, and spastic fight animation go giga hard and it deserves way more attention. It wears its influences on its sleeve sure, but it's got it's own sense of self for sure. And yeah, OST fucks hard |

pretty fun seeing the kid hikaru get his mech-adu or what it is call. Feels quite nice watching - has a good vibe- and has some funny aspects i wonder if there is any romance in this cuz i ship the girl with the dog like mech-adu with the mc |

Hiroyuki Sawano providing the OST for this show is quite the achievement indeed. Hikaru with the Trigger Arm Alma, being chased by Aki all the way to school, the normal peeps will think that they're in a love triangle alongside the carefree Meru Shirayama, though she's more of a winggirl than anything else. But her proclaiming to be from ARMS and designated to protect Alma (which it stuck to Hikaru meant that he has to come along either way), the trust between the two still not on good terms meant that escape is all but inevitable, and since escape is locked from below no thanks to Meru, he can only go up, while Aki goes the other way to secure him instead. To make matters worse, the Kagami Group with Tous and Wanner being round the same abandoned building to scout and kill him off from the last time, their shackled slavery of Mecha-Udes may still pose a danger for both Hikaru and Aki. But despite Aki getting surrounded by the both of them, Alma wanting to fight back, and Hikaru having his noise-cancelling earphones does the trick to hold them off. But it soon becomes clear that Alma literally is the Trigger for all scenarios moving forward, and Hikari joins ARMS to fight against the Kagami Group to free enslaved Mecha-Udes. Quite the beginning this is... |
