I know that the animation quality dropped but what about the writing? Did that drop too or is it still good? No spoilers as I have not seen it yet, just let me know if the writing also declined in quality or not

The events got shuffled here in there, but i think it is nothing too critical, and Junji Ito's writing still shines brilliantly

Really? I think it goes to highlight that the stories in the original manga are all happening in rapid succession/ the same time, adding to the mystery of the town

I’d say it doesn’t work with how Junji Ito writes. He shines when it comes to short stories. They all follow the same sort of structure. But here, because they jump from one story to another and then back again, it feels very anticlimactic I think. I feel bad for ppl watching who’ve not read Uzumaki. I don’t think it’s doing it justice

If you reply back to me and I never respond, I lost interest and don't care. Sorry about that.

Honestly no , lot of hype around junji ito but I don't get it. Maybe it's just the Pacing that ruins it all.

Already having an adaptation is a blessing for the fools who doesn’t read manga in general and watch just anime, so they have no right to complain for an effort of giving them some culture for once

I'm gonna be honest. They did a fine job animating it for how complicated the artstyle is. There's like 6-12 jarring cuts. Some to do with the character shading that gave off 3D berserk vibes, one terrible cinematography scene (so they look like they're sliding on the floor while running), and multiple movement errors like the punches and jogging. The story paced very quickly, but I still kinda felt on edge. It was mediocre compared to episode 1, but it's still a valiant effort nonetheless.

I see what you mean. But it’s just disappointing imo, reading the manga would show true Ito’s colours

Yeah exactly, i quite like the pacing, it ties together at moments that you wouldnt think abt were happening at the same time, but couldve happened at the same time. (i finished the manga)

Set ep 1 and 2 side by side and you'll notice the difference, also put some manga panels side by side, you'll see how brilliant that ep 1 animation is, and how neat and exact it is towards the manga art style.

the biggest problem for me is the way the characters react to things. As if two snail men aren't disturbing, they act like it's almost nothing. Plus, the main character acts like she doesn't know why her hair is curling. Didn't she just see her boyfriend's father's condition and put 2 and 2 together?

No. It's terrible.

The smooth intertwining of the manga chapters in the first episode gave way to a complete nonsense of pacing and narrative. There was , what, 6 or 7 arcs jumbled into 20 minutes? It was a mess.

Whole story in my opinion depends on great art. Here nothing felt disturbing and often it was pretty goofy.

@fratsje right? I keep telling people I think ex-arm looks better than anything studio orange puts out and they seem so offended. Is it wrong that I think Berserk 2016 is a masterpiece? What's wrong with thinking the first season of Kingdom is the best one? Such persecution.

This is based on weird horror manga. Why the fuck are you expecting good writing? It's all about atmosphere, ep1 nailed it. The rest will not.

it felt very rushed. I think the manga is very absurd in concept and in dialogue. Sometimes people act very strangely in the manga that aren't realistic but it works there. In the anime, the dialogue comes off as weird or stilted.

The overall writing in this anime is bad.
Everything is happening super fast, scene after scene, the people just accept that weird as hell thing happens and keep going on with their life like it is nothing.
If I would direct this show I will make it around 8-12 episodes, with much more dramatic emphasis on scenes and will make the characters to actually give a fuck and fear the things happening.

Imho it's significantly worse than the manga. Scenes happen back to back too fast, and since they've shuffled the arcs, scenes feel like they carry no weight
