No, Sakota-sensei! Right after he finished his role in the plot last chapter he just kamikazed himself. It was kind of sad seeing the robot with Nata’s brain be upset about it >.<

This chapter was very light plot-wise, but I like a lot of the imagery in it, particularly the panels of Kiruko standing in front of Anjulas. In general this arc loosely reminds me of Operation Yashima from Evangelion, the design overhaul they gave to Aoshima/Imanaga with her new role in the plot makes me think of Misato immediately

Damn, this is the last aired chapter? sad :(

I shouldn't laugh but it was stupid funny how the mirror failed and then the "terminator thumb-up" before explosion.

It's also infuriating how doctor is gone without giving more info on EVERYTHING. Hopefully the assistant robot will do that job once they're done with tentacle-monster.

Damn, what a godawful chapter, every single mystery from this manga is more interesting when you don't know the answer.

Also WHODAPHUCK would think a mirror can repell lightning, the guy is a doctor for christ sake, if it was a child sure.

We find all the characters we're looking for, just for them to do something stupid and die/disappear again, let's hope Yamato isn't the same.

What happened to the two girls that were with the Director(in the little girl's body/Mikura), if they were still alive, she wouldn't trust Miruo and the beam weapon to some random girl.

Ridiculous.

Kiriko finally finds the doctor. Doctor knows everything there is to know about monsters, the illness, the Heaven, origin, goals, orphanage, Kiriko's injuries and surgery details, you name it - he knows it. He gives a few little pieces of information and offs himself in the ridiculous kamikaze attack on an insignificant monster. The most competent specialist on monsters in the world, maybe the best doctor alive just croaks for no reason.

I kinda see a pattern here.

Mikura dies from the illness. The illness needs months to kill a person, she had more than enough time to prepare - to tell Maru what the Heaven is, where it is, why he has to find his twin, everything. No one knows about this stuff more than her. This information is vitally important. She only managed to say "heaven".

Kiriko finds doctor Usami. Doctor knows a lot about the monsters, the Heaven, Robin. He kills himself before the pair can talk with him.

She finds Robin. He knows a lot - he was living with Usami for years. He gives a few pieces of information, turns cartoonishly evil for no discernible reason and disappears.

The same dumb trick is used 4 times to keep the mystery alive. Author could do literally anything and this is how he decided to handle it. Lame.

I like how this manga ties everything together and I am itching for the next chapter like a crackhead but I am not gonna lie the doctor's death was pretty damn goofy. Your telling me the man who helped develop man eaters decides not to bring a special device to deflect the lighting or some technological advancement but a literal mirror LMAO.

Basically this. It's a very well-written manga but this idiotic thing annoys the hell out of me. Like dude, relax, you have enough questions for years to come, you don't have to dramatically kill off (or turn into a goddamn rapist) every major character our MC pair meets

Damn, every manga I catch up on always has a cliffhanger waiting for me.  We still don't know the full story with Mikura yet but I can buy Usami's suicide and Robin's heel turn but damn the Doctor's death was really stupid.

Having finally caught up with the manga after the fantastic anime adaptation… ironically I feel like the writing goes downhill after what the anime adapts. Like the writer knew the mysteries but didn’t know how to satisfyingly answer them. After they leave the school things jump around so much when it was a slow burn before. I don’t think it’s as well thought out or impactful than it was before either. I still want to see where things go from here but man I need the quality to get back to where it was.

For Mikura, it's clear that there is something fishy here but I trust it's because for some reason Mikura didn't want to tell Maru more than she did. I guess we'll understand why, I don't believe there's no reason but plot lazyness here.
Usami has no interest in talking about monsters and as soon as he discovers what Maru is capable of, he's only concerned about ending Mimihime's life and his own, so it's totally normal than they don't talk about it. And not only Kiruko and Maru have no idea Usami is linked to the Heaven they're supposed to find, Kiruko is more interested in finding about Sawatari and Robin. And it's totally consistent with the characters.
Robin may know a lot, but has always been shady once you look at the facts without Haruki's rosy prism, and it has no reason to discuss these parts with Kiruko, since Haruki was not involved either when he was young. He didn't turn "cartoonishly evil" as you said, but suddenly appeared in a different light since we see him now through different eyes than Hiruko's. We had a partial view of the guy, we a fuller one, quite less rosy, but there are still a lot to learn on the character.
For Sawatari, it seems obvious that the coming of Anjulas is the occasion to suicide in a useful manner. I agree that the timing here is a bit too convenient, but I suspect he also knows things about Kiruko and Maru that made he decide to commit suicide, because he can stand explaining some things he might have to explain now that they are here.
Also Kiruko and Maru have no way of knowing the people they meet know about all this. We know because we have access to a lot more information than they do.

I’m seeing a lot of folks voicing frustration about the doctor being an idiot for his mirror trick, did any else assume the doctor knew it would fail?

The man had enough grenades to blow a chunk off and they do their best work at close range. My assumption was he did it to keep folks from stopping him long enough to get got and it was a suicide attack. While I don’t love this due the continuing pattern of murdering our connections to the prior plot, it makes a lot more sense to me than the doc genuinely thinking he could reflect lightning
