A lot of focus on Jiro, lore, and background storytelling. I have to say, Jiro's character is standing out more than any other cast member in the show so far.

Tooka is definitely an interesting character, one that blurs between the line of human and beast. Even though they explored her character a bit this episode, I think there's still a lot more mysteries in their world's lore.

I'm happy to see the chicken chapeau. But what a weird chicken that one had.
And we had a very good girl.

What a great wife, Jiro had. Nice horns.

Jiro and Kumi, both being hit just about as hard on their past and where they come from with Facade and another prototype, things are about to get a lot tougher for the crew.

The Honarian village is up next in the destination, and to Jiro, it's a place where he didn't want to go because of his origins of growing up in the village, with the chief Gonza the Longarm being his father, in the most typical prodigal son storyline: the son-in-law through his deceased Cleric daughter Toka the Pure White. The customary way being of marriage, and both Jiro and Toka sealed theirs in addition to the contract between the Paladin and Cleric, and the bereavement curse of the Paladin being served as the Empire's goons becomes one such liability: getting to know Facade and Tsurugi, as well as facing the giant beasts, which Clerics are the first to be sacrificed.

Thanks to Kumi, Jiro is freed from the curse, and now it's payback time for Jiro to do Kumi's bidding to save the prototypes from being Clerics.

For the plot to become clear now, it felt like the majority of the 1st half was a dud.

So now we get some backstory on Jiro's past as they reach the Honarian village where they were greeted by a chicken chapeau and the village elder is Jiro's father-in-law. Jiro was married to Toka who was another cleric eight years ago after he became a paladin. Unfortunately, Jiro lost Toka in a battle against the giant beasts with Jiro being the sole survivor. Now Jiro and the gang have to deal with the giant beasts attacking the Honarian village.

Some good lore dropped in this episode. Jiro's wife was a beauty, sad that she sacrificed herself. So besides Jiro and his late wife, Facade and Tsurugi were in the group years ago with Facade losing his memories (and will be marked for death if they come back) and Tsurugi now being told to get the ring that Kumi has.

This anime has improved quite a bit in my opinion and the storyline is slowly coming together. Wow does Kumi have a bunch of clones.

One of the better efforts of this show so far, with some of Jiro's backstory with Toka. The sacrifice felt a little empty, but I don't see another way they could have executed that. Facade and Tsurugi were also present in the backstory, and it's very clear now that they lost their memories, and if they ever regain them, they'll be disposed.

Time to save the Kumi clones!

Next week's episode will finally answer some questions about the origins of Jiro's lilac haired Kumi,  Facade's Kumi and all the other generic light brown haired Kumi clones.

there's been a lot of good character development but i still feel like the world building has been terrible. started with a good hook but kind of went nowhere in that regard.

I still can't believe he lost his hottie wife, then LOST all his memories of her on top of it! That seems like a double blow (even if it's designed so that Paladins find a new cleric).

Very shades of The Iron Widow (hate written by someone who hated the ending of Darling in the Franxx). The clerics (female) are supposed to be sacrificial discard-able items, Paladins (male) are precious. Didn't notice the paralells until this episode.

Characters are humane, and the story is compelling enough.

Jiro had a nice looking Waifu.

Very nice Horns indeed.

This Paladin memory thing is shit... so not cool.

___ ___ ___

Also... it seems like majority of the world are all corrupt huh... especially the Empires and Nobles...

Maybe the "Beasts" are actually the "good guys" here, and the Humans are the actual evil...

Especially since it seems like Humans are producing "Clerics" to use them as weapons of mass destruction instead of protection.

Finally we get an explanation of who everyone is. So is Jiro going to marry Kumi? Also a chicken chapeau? Interesting stuff
