| Dang, the trail this episode was slightly rough to climb with the snowy weather. However, the episode itself captured the magic and nature of the show imo. Too bad the weather got windy but it's great to see everyone enjoy their usual hiking adventure. |

| Dude, they did it in the sixth episode, and now they've done it again ... brother blasting eurobeat through the radio in the car, best thing ever xD. But moving from that, this week episode we had "hunting" for the power spots focus. And yeah, Kokona definitely is that kind of a girl whom you'd expect to be into the whole power spot thing. |

| The girls had a lot of fun in the cold this time, it was nice to see them tackling a mountain in freezing temperatures, sign said -2 C which isn't that bad but still freezing. Still i heard you can get in a lot of trouble in those condition on a mountain so always make sure to make the right precautions. Honoka also had a nice thing going on the other mountain with Kokona, i hope the girls can take some more pictures together. |

| We've made it to February and for any anime that obviously means Valentine's Day. Feels a bit weird to have hints at romance hinted in some way or another in Yama no Susume. Especially given that the manga never really goes into this. So not really sure where the anime adaption got this from. But then again, I'm fine with that, I just don't know where it's coming from. But seeing Aoi and Hinata think of some deeper friendship, giving Honoka and Kokona quite a lot of space to be alone, only because they misunderstand that Honoka likes Kokona because of her way of taking photos seems quite right for them. And Hinata teasing Aoi about not understanding romance in the first place is the icing on the cake. Aoi wants to beat her to finding love? Don't let that hear the shipper in me. The second part was also really cool. Glad to see something that hasn't been shown before, somehow the story always comes up with something new. And while I do have some experience in hiking and mountaineering myself and thus have done a lot of the things shown, using snow shoes is something I haven't done before. While they aren't so much different from crampons (which shouldn't be confused ice cleats, wow I'm learning a lot of new English words today) - both have massive iron spikes for getting grip on ice and snow - they do have the bigger surface area for walking on more powdery snow. But with both of them covered in spikes on the underside it's not recommended to wear either indoor or even on a street. While not wearing them inside should be obvious from the fact that they will leave scratch marks, it's also not recommended to wear them on stone or asphalt because it can damage the spikes. And to avoid any depper dives into that matter, let me just give a quick overview of the manga adaptation: The A-part was adapted from a chapter in the second half of volume 10, which is actually more or less set at the time it was shown in this episode. The B-part however was actually set between the beginning of the new year and the climb of Mount Takao. So they moved it a bit later on the timeline, not too much though. |

| Was feeling bad for them that it didn't snow much so they didn't get to use the shoes properly but in the end they got to do it so that was nice. |

| I don't mind at all that outdoor equipment companies like Montbell and Thermos are involved in this show. (Do Japanese teens really love their hot chocolate that much? There's a Thermos scene in every episode!) The product placement actually seems natural, and it all makes me want to get outdoors. Just this week I was messing around with my snowshoes in the garage. Now I need to plan a trip up to the mountans! I also need to plan a trip to Japan! That lunch they enjoyed after their late winter outing got me salivating. I'm planning my first trip to Japan and the tempura smelt fresh out of the water is on my list! I'll return to this show if my motivation lags. |
| Honoka was gonna skip and study, but decided wanting to go when she heard Kokona. Aoi: "Huh, she suddenly seemed excited when I mention Kokona... o well, whatever" LOL And then we get even more Yuri vibes of hand holding, walking together, etc etc "Power Spots" huh... interesting... most power spots are religious, historic or folktale based, but a lot of reason for the "feeling" is caused by the Earth magnetic field Ionizing the air particles. ___ ___ ___ And they tried out the Snowshoes, too bad there isn't much slow left to try it out on. And they end up walking on Ice instead... "walking on clouds" *crunch crunch crunch* LOL At least they got high up enough to step on some snow that isn't frozen. Also, I thought the dude was going to catch fish or something, cause he said he was gonna be smelting by the river. But apparently he just stayed in the car the entire time and the group went to a restaurant to eat smelt instead, lol. |
