I don't recall watching some specific event that made him the way he was, but isn't his psychology the same as we've seen in several villains over the years? To quote a popular example, Voldemort from Harry Potter has the same ideology of flipping the order of society over with Wizards on top, since he feels they are the superior race who shouldn't live in the shadows. It's an intriguing mindset, but it has been done a lot of times over for me to be blown away or root for him.

He wasn’t always a bad guy. He just saw too many comrades die fighting curses.

to be fair we didn't have much more time with Yuta than Geto🤷‍♂️

Ngl I was rooting for Geto just because Yuta fans are so aggressive and I want him to lose a major fight or die to make the fans sad😂
I also just don't really care for Yuta, but in the manga Geto is one of my favorite characters (I didn't want Geto to win win though cuz that would've ended JJK before it really started)

not a yuta fan, i personally prefer itadori, for same exact reason as above. either way atleast in that movie yuta has more characterisation than geto, so yuta dying would still have probably made more impact. because I felt no impact when geto died or in his last conversation. (it was pretty much equivalent to junpei's mom). plus geto team is even more frustratingly underdeveloped and was almost cameo (similar to nanami).

Ok I used the wrong word. "Rooting" isn't exactly what I meant. I mean he gave Madara vibes, u know . But ofc Yuta was the good guy
