hnk's only first 35 chapters adapted anime because its easy to adapt compared to other chapters and also studio orange used this series for their own company's fame and popularity after all adapting popular and high ranked manga as a cgi much easier and cheaper
(my opinion)

please change my mind

yeah hard disagree. it definitely felt experimental for anime but I thought it looked great, and the soundtrack was amazing (and yes the walking sounds were cute).

really hope we can get a season 2, this is one of the most unique shows I've ever seen

Adapting somethifn with cgi doesn't necessarily make it cheaper, ofc anime like ex arm I'd assume where very cheap to make, but when it's this hight quality it's still quite expensive

Easier and cheaper? Yes. Easy and cheap? No.
To make this in conventional 2D would be a Gainax/Trigger level budget. Without CGI this would have been a PowerPoint presentation.

I wouldn't say easier and cheaper, at least for houseki no kuni it wasn't.

I watched a thing on the making of it (a few years ago tho so forgive me if I get something wrong) and they spent heaps of time on making that every single character reflected light like their real crystal counterparts (ie it's different for every single character), that the light reflected onto the ground, walls, other characters etc not just their shoulders, and also making sure the light reflected chaged based on how much light was there and what angle it came from... and then ontop of that all the face expressions were drawn overtop of the cgi so that it didn't look too stiff.
So there was still a big chunk of normal animation work too ontop of the CGI

Animation doesn't have to worry about too detailed light reflection, you just add shadows, maybe highlights, like if they do a pool/ocean scene they copy and paste some of that water criscross light overtop, and boom you're done.

I think they spent about 2 years making houseki no kuni?

Similarly sized companies do a regular anime within a single year.

double the time = probably double the cost...

Not saying all CGI is expensive, but houseki no kuni as a individual anime definitely doesn't fall into any cheap, fast or easy category.

Doesn't matter if Studio Orange used it as marketing for their later stuff (which was really just Beastars), it's still their best anime by far. I don't even need to watch their other stuff to know that you can't beat what's so close to perfection. It's a 10/10, no questions asked. It deserves a s2 so much more than most anime. Like seriously, who asked for shit like Smartphone Isekai 2? Give us what we really want, Houseki no Kuni 2!

HnK took 3 years to make.

Even if it was Cheap (which I HIGHLY doubt), the production definitely wasn't easy. And it shows - the production quality of this show is damn near perfect. Impeccable, if you will.

Uhhh…your opinion? Firstly, your 'argument' is rather incoherent so I do not see your point. Secondly, from what I can pick out, they are mostly facts. What you stated are objective corporate truths—it is undeniable for Anime studios to gain popularity through highly regarded source materials. CGI is undeniably a cheaper alternative that is why studios see incentive to switch to CGI which is inevitably going to become more prevalent. Whether it applies to Orange intentions is another question.

You suggested that Orange only adapted the first 3 Volumes out of convenience("easy to adapt/story" or slack work). While the 3 Volume adaptation is true, I do not see how you came to such a conclusion. To me it just appears that Orange is following the standard 1-cour structure; they managed to achieve a desirable pacing as evidenced by the comprehensive adaptation, with original scenes whilst delivering its themes. Seems rather meticulous to me. Moreover, while the first 3 Volumes appear less convoluted, it sets the stage for what's to come. I believe it is quite crucial to leave an impact on viewers—'easier' to adapt but not 'easy'.

I will not go into length but I propose a food for thought: as some anime viewers would know, Studio Orange is the best at handling CG(or full CGI). HnK, a story revolving around gems, shines better with 3D CG thus making Orange the ideal studio for it. Just consider what a 2D version of HnK would look like--perhaps the manga advertisement is a relevant example—much more lacklustre as a whole. The 3D animations also complements the reverberating sound effects much better.
