I love Inuyasha so I was really excited about starting Yashahime. I do enjoy it, I especially really love Setsuna and Moroha's characters. However, Towa really bothers me as a character. I feel like there's nothing more to her character than caring for Setsuna and sometimes it feels like it's too much and overbearing almost like she's stepped in and has tried to be a mother to Setsuna rather than a sister. I understand twins are very close but it feels like an obsession more than closeness. I also understand she would be adamant about making up lost time with Setsuna since they were separated but it's just too much in my opinion. What are everyone else's thoughts? Maybe there's more to her character that I just haven't picked up on???

Yes, and I appreciate that this episode actually added more development for her. Of course Setsuna is integral to her personality and development, but she became strong partially from having to live without her sister for so long.

I think you're spot-on about defining Towa's relationship with Setsuna becoming more like an obsession. I think the series is really trying to create a parallel between Towa and Zero, both of them being obsessed with protecting the people they care about, but they're ultimately failures that need to protected or put in their place.

But yeah, to answer your original question, no, I don't like Towa either. She's annoying and her character is a mess. They set her up as this tomboy who's grown up fighting all these tough dudes, but she's the MC with the least bit of combat experience and wit. The idea of writing a character who's supposed to be strong, as "someone who needs to be protected" can easily backfire. Towa also seems to be pretty stuck in her way of thinking, never understanding that Setsuna really doesn't have a mutual desire to be close sisters again. She just expects everyone to think and feel the same things she does and is [surpirse Pikachu face] when people don't match her vision.

Yes! you basically summed up exactly how I feel about her and her character. Her obsession with Setsuna makes me really uncomfortable from time to time. I really wish Setsuna or Moroha ended up as the MC instead!

Well, Towa is my least favorite of the three main protagonists. My ranking would be:

1.) Moroha

2.) Setsuna

3.) Towa

But I think the obsession you're referring to, while true, is kind of just in line with the original Inuyasha series thematically, which revolved around the burgeoning feelings between Kagome and Inuyasha (and to a lesser extent, the past and evolving/devolving relationship between Inuyasha and Kikyo) growing from curious interest to infatuation and obsession to the point of literally being willing to die or risk death for each other, and their main character development trajectories being explored via their interest in the other and what that means for their identities and roles in life.

It's playing on the same type of feelings and mindset that got a core part of the original Inuyasha fanbase so invested in and dedicated to the show. However cool, it wasn't for the toad youkai.

Except here, it's transformed into a platonic, familial relationship rather than a romantic one.

Moroha was basically the only reason I kept watching this show but Setsuna has been growing on me from S2, Towa, ehhh I don't know, she never learns anything.

Towa is honestly the second worst character of this season. Only behind kakehashi from Platinum End (which is the worst anime of the season.)
Her demon form was super cringey looking too. And the whistling her sword does when she uses it is super annoying.
I'm just glad we got to see more Sesshomaru

Best to worst for me would be Setsuna, Moroha, then Towa.
Setsuna's no nonsense attitude reminds me of Sessh.

Thing is, it was probably the hardest character for them to create and they probably tried a lot of stuff.

With Moroha, you could just copy most of Inuyasha's personality. An anime centered on him was already pretty popular, so it wouldn't be a big of a problem to have a character that was a younger female version of him.

I remember opening the official website on the day the anime was announced and it showed a big message reading "Sesshoumaru had daughters...". Moroha was only mentioned in a few sections if I recall correctly. A message is still showing up in the official website, but now it only talks about the bonds of their inherited blood.

That, as well as all the focus we have been seeing on Towa and Setsuna, makes me believe that from the start, it was planned to have Sesshoumaru's daughter as main character, with Moroha being some kind of Miroku/Sango. But now think of an anime focused in a character that was a female young version of Sesshoumaru. Most of the story would be about a character wandering quietly, most of the time by herself.

All am I talking here is pure speculation, but I think that is the reason they split in twins and made this kind of lore. You can still have Sesshoumaru's daughter being one of the main characters and having his personality, which is Setsuna. Then the one that would sort of carry his powers would be the other twin, and would be the active voice in the story since his personality was already there in her sister.

The problem, in the end, was that they tried a lot of different personalities on her during the show, which makes her identity less conclusive and more of a question mark.

Same boat. I love the Inuyasha series because of all the beauty and elegantly the characters are showing. Towa, it's just out of place. You can't even tell she is related to any one of her family members because of how different her "aura" is (personality and values?).

I have issues watching the seasons exactly because of her. She actually makes me hesitate to watch this anime, something that's sad because it's just one character....who sadly is the main heroine... It actually makes me wonder if they should have just stopped with Inuyasha and call it a day. For me, they are stretching something that finished, they recycle and ruing events and moments that were beautiful during Inuyasha series and should have remained there.

Honestly.... she's pretty terrible. I mean.... really bad. Every time the story focuses on her I have the urge to fast forward. So far, she has made every single dumb decision possible. And she's just.... dumb. "Setsuna forgot about me!". Bitch, she had magical amnesia. She didn't forget, her mind was wiped. Why is that so hard to grasp?

Honestly, I don't get it. Why just why? She is out of place.

All episodes are so wonderful, as long as they don't feature her. Like episode 9, anything to do with Rin, so many other demons and characters. It's like this show would have been way better if she never was added, as cruel as it sounds. I really don't get it. And again, it's like she is not her parent's daughter, at all.

So again, I enjoy this show a lot, except for scenes with Towa

I don't really think anyone likes Towa. She is one of the most boring characters with a super predictable and correct personality. Her obsession for Setsuna is so annoying. I really wish I could like her but she just feel like every shounen anime MC. She will befriend anyone and try to save everyone. This type of character is what I hate the most. Moroha is a much more likeable character and she should've been the MC. ;(

She's OK. I don't love her but I think she does work as the main character because she's so basic. One of the good parts about the anime is how it focuses not just on the main character, but on all 3 of the protagonists and a wide range of other characters as well. Her values and everything being so distant helps the viewer understand the fantastical world of the past as everything needs to be explained to her. Some worldbuilding is nice and it's something that was quite overlooked in the original Inuyasha series as all the focus was on the romance and chasing Naraku for 200 episodes.

I don't mind her obsession with Setsuna, the events of the past couple of episodes have justified it somewhat. Memories from childhood do play a strong role in a persons development and one of Towa's earliest and most impactful memories is her failure to protect her sister. We saw from the recent flashback how that guilt and her desire to find Setsuna played a large role in her life. It's what led to her getting bullied and needing to become stronger and it was always at the forefront of her mind even in happy situations like celebrating her birthday. For Towa, losing Setsuna was the root of many of her sorrows while finding her was a chance to overcome this and make amends. When Setsuna didn't reciprocate it deepened her sorrow and it's what led to her being taken advantage of.

We have seen her become less clingy this arc anyway. First they split apart and now Towa finally snapped at her. Hopefully she comes more into her own in the coming episodes

Her character is terrible. As Sesshomaru's daughter and someone who considered as mc, I expected her to be atleast cool and y'know badass but she turned out a dumb and boring character. Even the young version of Rin is better than her.

No.

Since my message must contain 15 characters, I repeat:

No, nobody does.

I haven’t watched much of season 2 yet but I’ll be the singular person to say I like her. However I’m not going to argue about it so I’ll just leave it at that.

She is definitely not my fav but I don't hate her. She is holding onto her past too much and she is OBSESSED with Setsuna. Like back off a lil.

Just as Kagome was obsessed with Inuyasha or vice versa. It's basically a recalibration of the same dynamic which was a large part of what made the original series so successful and popular, except familial and platonic this time around rather than romantic love.

I didn't like Kagome obsession with Inuyasha ngl, so I guess that's why Towa always being up Setsuna's ass kinda annoys me. In the most recent episode, we can see how she just would keep on saying/screaming "where are you Setsuna" throughout her life in the modern world.

At first I did like Towa but quickly got bored with her character and felt like her growth in her powers was not earned and she kept being the center of attention instead of it being divided equally between all the 3 girls and it didn't help Towa since her sister and cousin are much more interesting and their personalities and story lines are more enjoyable but now Season 2 Towa improved by a lot! All the girls feel like a unit too and no one is OP(no one meaning Towa) and overall I am very satisfied by how Towa is now.

That being said there is still tons of room for improvement in Towa's story arc but they are getting there. Hopefully they won't suddenly make her OP without it being earned or dumb her down in any way.
Still my favourite is Moroha and then Setsuna and then Towa

Tbh, Yashahime as a show will never be as great as Inuyasha. I think holding any of the new characters up to that degree will let you down. I understand about Towa. She is not my favorite character, but I don't hate her. She is different from others in the show because she grew up in the modern era. I think they do a good job portraying that. She was hesitant to kill at first. She was very obsessive about Setsuna at first. She was very naive at first. I think she has grown, maybe just a little, but still. I think even in the new episode, how she gets on with Kagome so easily just shows that she has a personality of someone from the modern era. I think even though she is the MC, I don't view her as the MC. I view the trio as a conglomerate. It's good that every character can play off each other and bring something different to the show.

Crushing on - Setsuna (looks and being all stoik and dignified).
Like - Moroha (confident, smart and capable).
Has her moments - Towa (nice visuals in terms of her appearance and probably best when fighting bullies in the modern era).
