| THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- Story No. 4: The Pretty Boy Traveling with the Brocade Portrait NisiOisin brings us back to the Feudal Age with Mayumi's memory imagery with a beautiful, devilish Zashiki-Warashi named Yurika (real name Kodaki Kawakike, Nagahiro's fiancé) who doesn't like to be interrupted, and savage face Michiru notices her standing like a dork. Maybe you should get acquainted more with the Pretty Boy Detective Club's members than just nicknames, Mayumi. A giant Oshie-Hagoita statue portayal that's not linked to either Lai or Rei's "Twenties" group, this is definitely a case for the Pretty Boy Detective Club, though the priority lies with the school break training camp for leader Manabu. Regardless though, the lie of the matter falling onto Nagahiro since his fiancé was the root cause of this problem...and Manabu denying entry for the fiancé before Mayumi made her entrance into the club...? Asking Mayumi to intercept Kodaki is one thing, but the underlying message of a hagoita is not something the Pretty Boy Detective Club can take it lightly. NGL, the watercolour and portrait theory prompting is a stylistic choice, as depicted by Akiyuki Shinbo's Monogatari style, which has always helped give this show an aesthetic to stand out with its themes. And never ask the Leader Manabu to do stuff, you'll be ridiculed in no time to spare. For now, it's just a giant statue with whatever the hell the Pretty Boy Detective Club decides to do with it. Unexpectedly, ths mystery is the easiest to understand so far, would love to have this mystery solved! |

| This is kinda weird this time with Kodaki, Nagahiro's fiancee that brought this strange statue to the club room, sure that this girl is mysterious so far, especially with that last scene... I'm looking forward to hearing their theories next time |

| Kodaki Kwaike, the weird girl in the beginning who was calling Mayumi out. So apparently she was rejected by the leader of Pretty Boys Detective Club. She doesn't have friends, now wonder why tho. Nagahiro wants Mayumi to befriend her. They are basically trying to figure out why and how Kodaki did what she did. That Hagoita is a mystery for sure. |

| Okada Kenjirou the assistant director having both episode direction and storyboard responsibilities for this episode really turned it into the most shaft episode yet. Such strong sense of the unique design elements that made shaft what they are. It feels refreshing seeing him go all out when he is known to be very tame. Being the series director for Sangatsu, I was taken aback with his onslaught of intense SHAFTism throughout the episode. Enough gushing over the visuals. Thats a treat on top of the strong writing Nisio has given us thus far. This arc is more human compared to the others. Specially because it deals with friendship, love, and jealousy. We are done with the absurdism that was the first 3 arcs. First one being a conspiracy with a satelight. Second, a gambling plot with spy elements and advanced technology. Third, an anticlimactic art arc that resolved on a happy ending. Each arc pushes these characters closer while giving them time to express their thoughts. And ofc the one that leaves with the most insight out of it is our main character Mayumi. My favorite part of the episode was how everyone just accepted her changing the gender roles with her clothing. They became almost too accepting that it caused her to have to get singing lessons from the student council president. And that scene when she deepens her voice was comedy gold. I don't know how Nisio has improved soo much from Monogatari. I felt like Zaregoto was his quintessential defining work, but the more BishoTan displays its literary prowess the more I understand the mind of NisioIsin. |

| That intro was fucking beautiful, I did not expect that Kodaki kid to have a sharp mouth, and definitely did not expect her to be Nagahiro's fiance lmao. Great episode! I love Mayumi, such a great mc. She really wanted to call Nagahiro "pedo bro" lmao. That is one scary 1st grader though. Hyota is a mood, I also wanna see Rei's thicc thighs again. I can't tell where this mystery is going though, like always lmao. Maybe if I knew what sending a battledore meant I probably would be able to understand more. She has a grudge on Sotoin because he did not let her join the club, but now she's back probably because of Mayumi. How is Mayumi going to befriend a demon. Really looking forward to the next episode. |

| I love how the guys turned towards Mayumi and glared at her when she was about to mention Manabu being the (physically) weakest person in the club. It's sweet to see them care so much about him. (I'd probably react the same way if I had been in the club too, haha) Not sure how I feel about Nagahiro's fiancée though. |

| What a snoozer of an episode. I chuckled once when Doujima and Fukuroi carried the thing, but aside from that it was pretty uninteresting. There was nothing interesting in the visual department for the majority of this episode which might’ve been why I felt so uninvested. Saving budget by cutting animation during the brainstorming sequences has gotten stale. Honestly, I am thinking about dropping this for the first time. If I feel this way for the next episode, then that might be it for me. |

I liked the art style when they were discussing about the Hagoita statue. And!! definitely leader is loved by every members of the club :D but I'm curious, how did Soutouin become the leader of the Pretty Boys Detective Club? and he is a 5th grader.. |

| Zashiki-warashi or not, I would've blocked the way for loli fiancée Kodaki if she called me impoverished and peasant. At least Mayumi can flex that she has been accepted in the club >:). |
