THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
The story between the child actor-cum-vampire Defrott and the unseemingly kind girl Misaki Nakajima, the stageplay act of actors from Oscar Wilde's Salomé to Shakespeare's Romeo amd Juliet abound. On the other side, the love story of the current news reporter Aoi and soldier Kurusu. 2 seemingly unrelated past storylines merge to be one hell of a show (aided with the whole miltary strategism).

Conspicuously, note the name of Misaki: her family name's Nakajima, which references to Lt. General Nakajima, the head of the militia, which means busyness and lack of time to care for his only daughter. The fiancé of Misaki: Maeda, again referencing to General Yoshinobu Maeda. These names can't be just uncanny enough.

The handwritten letters of Misaki to Maeda, and some shady guy who has "S" blood, it's a tragedy awaiting to happen. Couple that with Misaki's performance of the Salomé that ended in her death, it's as story-worthy of any wretched stage play.

Both Defrott and Maeda have met up, and this'll be a play to the death. Thrilling episode at the very least.

Not sure if Defrott showed Maeda her memories or he remembered them somehow but here's how it goes. Misaki was such a nice girl. She was really cheerful and Defrott, a stage actor who's really talented in his acts, also a vampire. He was helping her get better in her acting skills. Seriously tho I can't imagine marrying someone who I've never met before, in this case, that was Colonel Maeda but she was in love with him and that was cute. It was short-lived tho.

Poor Misaki had so much on her mind ended up being the victim of an accident and then becoming a vampire by Defrott's blood.
As explained by Defrott, Maeda and Misaki's story ended in a tragedy as well (episode 1). And I'm "assuming" Maeda will finally become a vampire as well. That was a really good episode.

I'm wondering if Misaki was killed by that suspicious man and he set it up to look like stage accident. Anyway, the only good thing that come out of this sad event is that Maeda will continue to be a virgin, which is my fetish.

What an absolutely amazing episode, probably my favourite so far! Seeing all the pieces slowly coming together was so satisfying. Misaki and Aoi are both so lovely! Aoi is indeed a strong girl, she lost both her brother and - at least for now - Shutaro; her only way to continue living was not to accept his death: it makes sense that she's still looking for him as a last, desperate resort. They couldn't be any cuter together - please show, let them be happy ;-;

We get to see a lot more of the most intriguing character of the show, Defrott. I'm so happy to see that he wasn't behind Misaki's accident (Rufus was the little shit, damn it! Maybe Nakajima knew about it as well.). In the first half of the episode, he's very cold and diffident, but then he slowly starts getting attached to Misaki to the point that he tries to save her until the very end. And now that Maeda is in the exact same condition Defrott tries to save him as well but... CLIFFHANGER :)))))

I could say more and more thing about this masterpiece of an episode, there were so many great details. Also the music in the final scenes is so good and fitting! We can also try to guess Defrott's age by thinking about what he said: he's very, very old for sure! The theatre is his whole life and now I understand (maybe) why he's getting attached to Aoi: she resembles Misaki from every point of view!

Overall the series is being so, so good! Hopefully this second half doesn't disappoint, because I'm ready to put it in my favourites.

Finally Miyuki Sawashiro's normal acting voice in a short scene. Most of the time the way she plays Deffrot it sounds like Minami Takayama playing Conan Edogawa.

Was good backstory episode but weird important part.

Misaki death, say that was an accident is just weird, the wood looked reinforced and more important the metal plate cracked. If ask me, the guy who brought the blood to Misaki's father, planned the "accident".

Which is Rufus, and it would totally make sense since he's working with Nakajima! Agree with your theory.

Salome backstory with Defrott, living together in the attic. 'Your love is bloody and cursed'. 'Falling in love by reading the letter, ended up as a tragedy'. Thats the truth. Defrott factually helped Misaki granting her wish to play as Salome to Maeda. Her father took her to the island. Then thats how the first episode happened.

The way its also connected with the reporter backstory, and the revelation of the truth relation within Nakajima and Rufus, then how Misaki found out about the vamp. How careless, and its lead her to death, as a vampire too. That sure a one hell of a tragic story of Salome.

Still, i am curious about where the hell is Kurusu at. Hope shit won't hit and get his back, yet....

As all the pieces of the puzzle start to align, the events of the first episode (and onwards) are finally given proper meaning. My first impression of the show was that it was very cryptic, and a large part of that was to do with Misaki. Now we have the backstory on her motives, her connection to Maeda, why she was a vampire etc, my appreciation for this show has gone right up ^^

Misaki was really looking forward to showing Maeda her Salome, that's why even after she turned into a vamp she kept repeating her lines T^T

this answers what we're wondering on ep 5 (or 6?), but it doesn't do a good job as Defrott was right there.

Then I'll say that it's the same reason why Kurusu couldn't see the earthquake coming and move away in time. It happened right in front of him but he couldn't react in time - he was shocked and didn't even move. Or he couldn't show his powers to all the others that were in the theatre. Not the best explanation(s) but it doesn't bother me much anymore because I loved the execution. But I totally get your point

Best episode of the season so far. Gave it +2 rating points just because of Defrott and Misaki. I wonder if that pillar that fell on Misaki was really an accident or something caused by the guy selling s-clas blood. D

Defrott has won my favourite character of the season award next to Sayu.

Excited for the next episode!

Pretty interesting episode giving more context for a lot of things the show has brought up. Wonder what Defrott's deal is in general. I mean what is he doing in Japan anyway. Dude clearly is against what Nakajima and Rufus are doing.

I see people wondering why the score of this show is so low. That is mainly due to the fact that only 26,1% of people actually watching this show have rated it. And there is still plenty of others who still plan to watch it. Either way, I am enjoying this show a lot, people should take this show in the context of a stage theatre.

True, I only rate shows once I finish watching them, though the low score for this is still rather weird. I've been enjoying it.

All the best love stories have a tragic ending.

This one had a tragic start, and tonight I remember just how beautiful, and oh, how lovely it truly was.

It is during episodes like this one, much like with the first, that Mars Red approaches, flirts, and even caresses the status of masterpiece.

If only the pieces that fell in between the gaps could have held to that standard... if only the pieces remaining would...

That was a great episode, probably my favorite one so far! I really like Deffrot, plus Sawashiro Miyuki's smooth ass voice is voicing him. Though I do wonder what his end goal is. I feel really bad for Misaki, she's so adorable when she was talking about Maeda. That's probably why she was always acting when she turned into a vampire in hopes that Maeda will see her Salome, that's very sad. Rufus probably sabotaged the stage or something so it would kill Misaki, fuck Rufus.

We really got some tragic love stories here, Maeda and Misaki and then Aoi and Kurusu. I wonder if Aoi will be able to see Kurusu ever again, even though Kurusu is a vampire now. I knew Aoi was gonna love the play when she was saying that she'd be bored and shit lmao, she's also adorable, I hope she doesn't meet the same fate as Misaki. Looking forward to the next episode, will Maeda drink the blood? He most likely will.

I like how this episode explains/expands upon the first episode.

All of these tragic love stories.. Even the story Defrott said to Misaki (about sharing letters without meeting the person) ends in tragedy.

Cyrano de Bergerac story is a bit different. Cyrano did meet the woman, however, he's ashamed to confess because of his inferiority complex (due to his appearance). Later, he's approached by a solider who's in love with this woman too and asks for his help in writing love letters to her (Cyrano is a poet). He agrees and he put all his feelings in the letters, thus the woman falls in love with the solider not knowing it was Cyrano who wrote them until it is too late.

You should watch the movie, it is good.

Damn that OST is no joke, it was going really fucking hard at the end of the episode. Honestly, this episode might have been my favorite of the series so far. The music, lighting, and voice acting were top-notch and the narrative was well-done.

This anime was losing me from episodes 3 - 5, but it has really been heating up lately.

Maeda is dying painfully, losing his blood. Then, Deffrot shows up, and instead of saving him, he starts reciting lines from a play. lol

Misaki and Aoi really do look alike.

Wait . . . Aoi and Kurusu's relationship was platonic? I thought they were either a couple or about to be married! Now, I am going to have a really hard time not shipping Kurusu and Suwa!!

Misaki called Maeda "Oji-san". Oh god, I didn't expect them to be a generation apart. I just assumed Maeda looked old because of stress.

Oscar Wilde wrote that play about Salome? Suddenly, I'm interested!

Deffrot is adorable!

Because a lot of shotas are voiced by women, I have stated accepting certain kinds of voices as a boy's voice. So, I was slightly pulled out when Deffrot suddenly spoke perfectly like a woman, and I just couldn't stop picturing a woman voicing him.

I hope I am not the only one who finds the dialogues in this anime quite interesting. They feel more artistic than realistic. Except the dialogues by Aoi. She seems too detached from the whole story.

A little slow at the start but this ended up being a very good episode. I was initially confused because Misaki and Aoi look so damn similar but it started making more sense as time went on. Misaki's death also seemed very quick, in a negative way.

Maeda's reactions to everything are far more interesting now, I wonder how he will take being a vampire. Misaki seemed to go insane but he is like a super soldier, I really wanna see what happens to him.

Overall a interesting episode.

Maybe I read that scene incorrectly, but it seems to me that Aoi definitely wants more than platonic relationship with Kurusu, I understood her "do you dislike people mistaking you as my fiancee?" as meaining "what's wrong with you being my fiancee, I'd want that".

It's starting to get interesting now that they're back to Salomé.

Aoi and long haired Misaki really looks similar. I was really confused by the start of this episode. I thought it was Aoi and was wondering why she sounded so different until she introduced herself to Defrott.
