so night school starts, schoolgirl mai is so cute.

so many references in this episode too lol, wonder how they’re gonna dodge all those copyright claims lmao. jinko really is a hardcore director lmao, that personality change was pretty extreme… that scene in the house though, really looked like mitsugu was about to confess, too bad that director girl had to interrupt :/

the play was pretty cool and hilarious, i was laughing so hard the entire time. mai on jinko’s blood was pretty nice ngl, she got really bold especially in that final scene of the play…

also, mai with vampire attire is very nice

Well beyond the fucked up crazy people I have quoted below, I loved the production, and it was interesting to see the plot develop to where vlad got her last blood type. Nurse is totally sus, MC is clearly in love, the play was a mess and as far as i'm concerned, let the madness continue!

Maybe its not made to make you laugh. Ever considered that?

I read the three words at the start of paragraph 3 and then realised it would be pointless to continue because if you had anything of merit to say you would of just asked me to read you review.

Also the other guy quoting me. I get you, just checking in you weren't a psychopath :P Can't be too careful these days.

Don't know why you are so mad about some random person disliking this anime. If you enjoy it then good on you. Feel free to read my review if you would like to understand why I dislike this anime.

Absolutely loved it! Oshii went all out again with this play-within-a-film episode. So many more Urusei Yatsura references, particularly Jinko doing the Crazy Laugh that shows up with so many characters in UY. And those hallway running scenes - pure UY - see movie 2, "Beautiful Dreamer" for this.

BTW - for you folks who don't recognize the refence for the title for the upcoming episode 7, "Day for Night", Wiki it. (Ah, the European "New Wave" of the late 50s to early 70s. Day for Night is, of course Truffaut, but in UY most of the "class film" references, as was almost all of UY movie 4, were to Fellini.)

Maybe you would find it funnier if you actually understood the references. This anime is full of references to Oshii's previous works. There's a scene in episode 4 (or was it 5?) where it literally turns into Patlabor 2. Oshii had a blog about Fallout 4 where he mentions how he missed a deadline because he kept playing the game and that is mentioned in the anime. Basically, there's a ton to uncover.

This show has so many references!
It beats Gintama 10 to 1. It's a reference overkill show.
Some are obvious, like the Urusei Yatsura ones.
There are surprising ones - for example the UFO cosplay with the MC. (We had UFO, Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet references in Patlabor TV so maybe it's not a big surprise.)
And some leave you wandering - was that a Fantastic Children reference scene in ep 6?

Well it's not a masterpiece but I am enjoying Vald Love (Blood Love?) quite a bit.

Yeah, might've laughed more, didn't notice any because I haven't watched much of his stuff. Though, if an anime has to rely on referencing other works to be it's sole redeeming factor, it's pretty bad.

amusing episode at least now Jinko is one of them

my guess now is that Vlad Love aka Blood Love meant they gonna make a blood full of love that will be drink by Mai so that Mai cannot be so destructive later on

@mlzu I don't want to start another comment war (considering that @Roch2001 and others have done a great job dissecting this show so far), but please try another Mamoru Oshii show and see whether that reflects good or bad on you. All constructive criticisms, please feel free to PM or comment me instead, thanks for being considerate.

The FINAL 6-episode binge before Episode 7, and it's Castle to the Vania (which is obviously referencing Castlevania).

The night classes have begun, and Dr. Chihiro slaps with the "regulars cast members", well that is a 4th wall break right there. At least Jinko is now part of the cast member team, and treating Mai just like ANY OTHER transfer student.

Putting on a play...and definitely Castle of Vania comes into mind. Hopefully that won't be a copyright strike from Konami's part HAHA! That's where Jinko's gamer skills comes into play, and being director of the play is fair game, but her blood type A perfectionist personality may just be too much for everyone, other an imitating Simon Belmond with the whip action.

Mai's anemic anxiety attack is not good, but "the show must go on". From the 8-bit sound to the endless comedic moments and the Castlevania references, I wanna say it's a failure on all fronts, but the overlap overweighs the losses. Mai's dracula cosplay is just perfect, if not for Jinko's Type A blood fusion.

That's fun for a play. Character motivation for Jinko paired too, and that's a great thing.

Ready for Episode 7?

The play episode was fun enough. Everyone got together and tried to pull off a play, in their own eclectic style. And of course there was that romantic dramatic bit where Mitsugu was in Mai's hands like prey.

A Castlevania parody was pretty apt for this show.

I admit I had issues with Jinko being a perfectionist freak, but as that fit into the comedy it paid off well enough. And Jinko did pay for it by screwing things up at the end.

I laughed out loud several times. The randomness of the play and how JInko was cheered at the end for it, lol. I know this is not for everyone, but it does very well for me.

The amount of references is absolutely insane, I literally lost count of all the scenes that are picked up from Urusei Yatsura, Beautiful Dreamer, Castlevania, Vampire Hunter D, Patlabor etc

you guys ALL missed the Batman jokes? obvious one, THE OPENING SCENE OF THE PLAY! before the curtains open? the Bat Signal 'self censored' on the curtain? Mai's costume is NOT vamp-play it is an OBVIOUS satire of both DC's Batwoman (she had a mostly black with red elements, Bat Emblem on her chest was red and her utility belt was red) AND Alicia Silverstone's Batgirl costume 1997 in the movie 'Batman and Robin' designed by Ingrid Ferrin and Robert Turturice

additionally, this is an ONA original net animation.

get on the Wiki guys. seriously! if MAL won't do the work here i'll do it: "It was scheduled to premiere in April 2020, but it was delayed to October 2020.[13] On May 8, 2020, it was announced that series was delayed again due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[14] The first episode of the series had an advanced streaming debut on December 18, 2020.[15] On December 28, 2020, it was announced the series would be released online on AbemaTV, Prime Video Japan, and various other streaming outlets on February 14, 2021 (Valentines Day). It was hoped by series producers that the anime would first broadcast on television, but that plan never came into fruition.[11] Crunchyroll licensed the series.[16] The second half will be released on March 14, 2021.[17]" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vlad_Love#Production_and_release

wiki themselves lists their sources so i won't.

do you guys get the JOKE? Feb 14 was Valentine's Day. March 14 is WHITE DAY! when the guys in Japan reciprocate gifts to all the girls who gave them choco a month previous.

Can't remember. (Maybe there was a picture of a crescent moon and other random geometrical forms? Or creepy children with white hair?)
I have written here also about references to Urusei Yatsura and UFO (the british live action show), can't remember those either.

I don't remember most of Vlad Love aside the concept and the characters.
