THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
It was a stressful episode,
Dead bodies were kinda scary, lots of tension with this lubulule creature creeping in the forest. The creature was scarier when it was only visible in the shadows, the actual one wasnt as impressing as I expected.
The investigation at the end was quite frightening too but the monster looks really lame lol, it feels like playing an averge horror game.

Very violent ending still, good job Innumael
What a cliffhanger at the very end !!

That was over way too fast.

Looks like there's some sort of human experimentation going on, maybe the funds mentioned by the female spy are for this cause?

Also i might have spoiled myself on a detail while looking at the character list on MAL with some information in this episode, don't look.

Immanuel and Schaake's designs are still great to look at.

A tale of bargains between Leo and Innumael on the Army vs. Rebels front.

Basically, Innumael being fearful of his "Wanted" status is getting more and more paranoid whilst the Rebels ploghing their way through the fangs of safety in the outskirts of forests. He's just a walking stick holding back the current Rebels team, and even to his own misfortunes.

A human experimentation lab from the Empire, guess for the scummy ones who will do anything and everything to drive out opposing factions. The last thing I'd expect from a series like this is imaginary monster creature beings that are weak towards sound, and that's the least of my worries. At least Innumael is redeeming himself by being a killer though...unfortunately that's Yasmin's mother (given by the ring)...or not?

The plot is still a ways away in sight, but at least things are going in a predictable direction.

I believe that the monster was actually the sister, not the mom.

I know what you guys are thinking. The ring was on the monster's finger. A married woman usually wears a ring on her finger. The mother is obviously gone, as why would anyone need a memento of her if she was still alive? So maybe she is the one who turned into a monster.

But then I got to thinking that the ring is probably not a wedding ring. If the daughter has a ring, and the mother has another ring that looks just like it, then it is probably not a wedding ring. It's probably just a normal ring. And if it's just a regular ring, then the monster could be the sister. Not only that, but wedding rings don't go on the forefinger. They go on the ring finger.

So then I paused the anime episode where it was focused on the picture of the girl's mom. And that's when I saw it. The older sister was wearing that same ring on the same forefinger. And it's extremely hard to tell, but if you look super closely it looks like the younger sister is also wearing a ring on her forefinger.

So I'm thinking that the mom gave both her daughters a ring each, and both girls wore the ring on their forefingers. But eventually the younger sister put the ring on a necklace instead. Whereas the older one still wore it on her finger.

And since we know that the older sister was only gone for a couple of days and she is already a monster, then that means one of the lab animals has the ability to turn regular humans into monsters. Or maybe some of the chemicals inside the research facility is what turned the daughter into a monster. I am thinking that it is the chemicals, because there was Coldfire inside the research lab, which the grandfather said is impossible because he hadn't seen any in many decades. I suspect that something illegal is going on, and the research is what is causing all the problems with monsters, Coldfire, and fatal illnesses.

Something to note is that just because the monster is wearing the ring doesn't mean that it is the sister. Maybe the monster ate the sister and then put the ring on its finger because it was nice and shiny. I was wondering why the monster didn't eat any of the adults, and it could be possible that it only craved children's flesh. "Don't find it. I want it." But I have a feeling that it is the older sister.

If you played the game and know exactly what happened and I was wrong, please don't waste time correcting me. It always weirds me out with manga readers go out of their way to lecture me on how wrong my guesses are. I mean, f. If I read the manga, I would know exactly what happened too. Get over yourselves!

Idk where this is going to go, but i really dig this anime, mainly cus it does the camera, sound in a really competent way, the whole thing the presented in the first episode that the protagonist on the military side joined the military forces for a friend for that friend getting killed the first time they got deployed, I wonder how they going to explore this in future episodes, since the kinda give a hint he is going to do something in the next one.

Also regardingthe monster i pretty much thought it was the sister cus of the reaction of the grandpa, but i could be wrong too, if they want to expand on this further more saying that the mother was involved in the project or one of those that where killed or disapeard in the project 10 years before, but it seems the likely thing is that it was the sister, and unlike the other kid she actually had the ring on her finger to remind her mother

The monster was obviously the older sister.
How and when did she transform into the bizarre monster (after the lighting/exploring the ruins?) are the real questions here.

Seems more like Gears of War....that glowing stuff makes kids sick, but the government experimented with it and turned people into monsters.

That research facility was straight out of Gears of War 2, and that glowing stuff is like Imulsion.

More dread and an unknown cruelty situations happen surrounded the Empire territory. Inumael found out that his life around the smuggler organization was just a coincidence. Without him realizing it, his existence was able to save people's lives, as well as help solving the mystery in the place where he lived. By the time being escape from the previous accident, Inumael and his new team lost in the unknown village with something unexpected happened. Some monster attacked them, and almost ripped them apart together with the little girl that somehow could survive on that forest.

More information has been dumped. Its actually because of the research the Empire had in the past. It might result a mutation that cause the monster in the rampage. The lightning the villager saw actually the reason of a coldfires to be awakened. While the fact of the monster surprised the old man, and a little girl, later. Its actually her older sister ....

Also, the white hair girl in the previous episode, actually a spy for the smuggler organization. While Leo has been tasked to brought Inumael's sister. The deal between those people still unknown, maybe the next episode will reveal more about their action. Ngl , the storyline was really surprised me, in a good terms. I hope, its keep interesting me on their world building elements. Its really increased my curiousity, about whats goin on behind their world. Welp, on to the next episode, then!

I might be suspect that she struck by the lightning or a glowing thing that the villager saw before. It might led into her mutation, and yeah its happening to be like that, maybe xD.

It came out late, but I think people just don't appreciate interesting world building shows that doesn't show its hand immediately from the first few episodes. It's such a different and ambitious show, a breath of fresh air and got me hooked from 1st second to last.

That was a really good episode, It's consistently getting better each episode. I honestly don't like Leo much, we'll probably because we haven't seen much of him. I hope he defects from the army eventually, cause the army whack.

My favorite characters so far, is definitely Schaake and Innumael. That end of the episode was dark as fuck though, when I saw the grandpa's reaction I knew that the monster is probably the sister. And then they confirmed it fuck, that's disturbing.

After this season i'll probably look at the lore from the game but, I doubt i'll play it since I am not that into mobile games. Very interesting setting though.

Nice episode. And I liked that episodic story. And how the Immanuel guy showed good thinking. (When he recognized the thing with the sound where the monster reacted.)

It was obvious that it was the sister. I just wished he would have recognized that. The char is getting better. At first I didn't like his personality. Too scared too often. (But that is normal for a delivery guy that just is not used to such stuff.)

I hope this won't stay episodic - and the adventure-type of anime. For now this is nice. And the game surely had some gameplay where the fun came from - in addition to episodic adventury type content and slow progress.

Later there should be more reveals regarding the capital, emperor and the diet. Next episode probably progress on the soldier buy and with the sister of Immanuel.

I guess Schaake's (weird name lol ... maybe they tried to make some German name) parents are nobles. Since they were talking about nobles and the other guy wanted to reveal some info but she got angry and stopped him.

They should make romance between Schaake and Immanuel and between the soldier buy and the sister of Immanuel. :D

Finally monsters are appearing, now it's getting more interesting.

Inumael stole the show in this episode. First he found Yasmin and then killed that creature by logical deduction. I was shocked to see that he had the courage to search in the forest all alone XD Inumael's stupidity and reactions are the best.

Were the empire trying to create human monkey hybrid of some sort, those creatures looked kinda human, jumped like monkeys. They looked disgusting.

At the end they tried to imply that creature itself was the other sister but does that mean when a monster kills a human, that human becomes a monster too? But if it's true then how come there were dead bodies, they should've turned into those monsters...
Many of you are saying it's the lightening, but the lightening happened before the older sister disappeared. I think the empire has something to do with that lightening and the coldfire. So many mysteries, can't wait for the next episode.

Leo has really less screen time. It doesn't feel like he's also a mc...

MWZ is really tricky. It wants to be something big but still don't have that catching punch to uphold the viewers. So I guess this will be a slowburn of an anime, and if it does became a 2-cour series, then I might appreciate it more. But let's get to the episode.

More focused on the Innumael's side this week as they stumbled into the forest. They encountered grotesque corpses all along the area, but with their car not running, they will stop in a nearby town. We got one of the first appearance of a monster, and it looks creepy.

I'll just skip to the ending and it was shocking. I thought it was the mother but it was actually the older sister. And the reaction of both the old man and her sister was really sad to see. I really want this anime to grow into something good. But as it stands the anime is still working itself out, as the mystery of this world continues to unravel.

Episode 3 finally got me invested with the anime. The lack of a clear narrative and history, that was the biggest flaw of eps 1 and 2, seems to be solved now. Direction and animation were really solid this time. Looking forward to more, specially about Innumael's development, since it's being explored well as the outsider that gets on a greater destiny without actually choosing it, and even if he can be irritating, guess it's still comprehensible since the first episode was literally yesterday for him.

Just too many bullshit is squeezed into the single ep.

Blonde dude punching a delivery guy 'coz he's not willing to roam into the night wood full of corpses, missing villagers and at least 1 monster?
People went to investigate abandoned lab with high chance encountering the monster and took a little kid with them?
And that lab itself - was abandoned and no documents taken or destroyed?
etc, etc..

Delivery guy was gonna say something stupid and imply that the two girls are dead, that's pretty damn insensitive of him.

Maybe they thought the lab was safe and the girl insisted on wanting to find her sister. Idk

You don't even know what happened to the lab, maybe there was a fire and the documents survived or maybe the monsters attacked the scientists so they had to abandon it and then they gave up on trying to reconquer the place because of the monsters. And then they forget about it.

It helps to actually not speedwatch everything and focus on stuff. This is called visual story-telling, it's different from your normal stuff.

A bit contrived, why did they even bring the child into the ruins? Also I laughed a bit when they showed us the little girl finding her sister's, where they afraid the audience couldn't figure that one?

The characters are still completely paper thin and this includes the main character, we really need some background on the smugglers.

Creepy atmosphere & ost pretty cool, as is the forest scenery.
So at least some monsters are artificially made, and threads the empire labs, coldfire, those canister logo mysteries together. Also the white hair detective on diet funds.
rip Gollum, too bad imouto learned it's her sister, but Innu doesn't even know. It's interesting how his two kills so far were fairly visceral and shows relationship strain around the deceased.
Still bunch of vague points why imouto stuck in forest for so long, and why gollum killed people, claimed hungry yet doesn't eat them, how exactly she mutated so fast in 2 days.

I think the problem here is the translation. The small girl says about the ring on the necklace, "It is a memento from my mom."

That makes you think her mother used to wear it, and now she does.

Imagine if instead the translation said, "It was a gift from my mom."

Because why would the mother wear two plain rings? More likely she gave a ring to each of the daughters.

And it is clearly the lightning that struck the forest just a few days ago, that released Coldfire and turns people into monsters. The older sister disappeared two days or so ago, and now there is a monster.

As for what the monster was searching for - I expect that is to be revealed. Perhaps more monsters will be looking for something.

I just started watching this anime yesterday, thank's to a Fall 2020 list on YouTube by From My Mother's Basement. He was right, it's a good show.

Yes, the audience could GUESS that the monster is one of the missing persons mentioned in the episode. But there has to be more than that. The ring does it.

Yes, I finally found one that feels really good. And it took me until yesterday. Second best are Akudama Drive, Talentless Nana and Sleepy Princess, but this season doesn't feel like certain earlier seasons.

Remember summer 2019? Vinland Saga and Doctor Stone and others all at once, and you could really feel the quality in them? Good times.

A bit contrived, why did they even bring the child into the ruins? Also I laughed a bit when they showed us the little girl finding her sister's, where they afraid the audience couldn't figure that one?

You actually laughed when you saw them showing the only proof of the fact that it was her sister?

Yes, 'cuz it was obvious from the Grandfather's reaction and the whole narrative of the episode which put emphasis on the sister rather than the no-name villagers.

Throughout the search for the sisters, fear gripped my heart. But when successfully finding the sister, the more they were against the monster, the wronger something was. And the little girl went running to where the beast died and finally found something astonishing and sad. 😨

Btw the expressman is lucky and surprisingly capable of getting two kills in this episode. 😂

Innumanuel may be a coward and a pessimist who really deserved that punch to his face, but I gotta respect him for being able to do something when the situation calls for it. Quite the disturbing and sad reveal at the end on who the monster was.
