THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Too bad this was a short. I think this could have potential as a movie or a 6-episode OVA.

From what I could tell, the main guy speaks about wanting to devote himself to something, then realized that he has been devoting himself to something already all along? Presumably, this leads him to devoting himself to study and supervise the dinosaurs. The girl seems to share the same sentiment.

Overall, pretty decent for the younger staff.

Okay I really enjoyed this 1 minute animation.

There's a lot of ancient creatures here, I'm a bit rusty but I think there was an anomalocaris, the girl at the end is holdin a diplocaulus and is that a dunklosteous in the swimming pool?

Interesting how there's a mix of feathered dinosaurs and how the pterosaur in the nighttime scene is furry, but the Pteranodon and T-Rex are more of the old-school look.

You may give yourself a pat on the back, because you're correct. Are you sure you are rusty? Because I have the feeling you have more knowledge than the average person. :-P

Kinda a bummer for it only being a 1 minute short. I expected honesty a bit more. Even with some inaccuracies like the outdated posture from the Dimetrodon sp. or the lack of fluff with the Pteranodon sp., while the (perhaps) Quetzalcoatlus sp. did recieved fluff and the old-school model from the Tyrannosaurus rex was a bit odd to me aswell. Oh well. But the young team from Toei did very well.

Hhaha well I'm not updated ! Paleontology is ever evolving and I'm still mostly relying on the books of my youth, the best being "The Concise Dinosaur Encyclopedia" by David Burnie, with beautiful illustrations by John Sibbick.
I was big on dinosaurs (and by extension, all prehistoric life) as a kid and with the resurgence of Jurassic Park and the excellent toys by Mattel, it made me look back on my old books and read up on some new dinosaur facts.

Awesome! Yeah, I also recieved the 'paleontology virus' thanks to Jurassic Park myself when I was around 7 - 8 years old back in the day. Now I'm not familiar with the book you've mentioned, but one of the books I still own from arround that time your book's age is a Dutch print of "The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Dinosaurs and Prehistoric Animals – Sep 9 1999" from Marshall Douglass.

Iether way, glad to know there are more paleo-weebs out there! :-D

OK this was far beyond what I expected from toei animation!

I never thought something like this would actually be made and I almost feel like crying tears of joy because these visuals are simply outstanding. The colors and characters are especially appealing and something I think a lot of dinosaur media in general needs. Like, Just think of all the dull and grim looking dino films like jurassic park and stuff AND NOW LOOK AT THIS.

Just this short appeals to me so so much more than anything coming out this season and I just cant believe its by toei! They make the infamous Dragon ball super but they are then capable of making this! JUST WOW

Everyone just please watch and support this video that was created with such passion for the craft of art in general. Man, I just wish this video could become like a movie or actual anime.. Maybe if I watch it 100 000 times more lol

I think this short has three messages.
1. some young people are idealistic and want to devout their time to something they enjoy.
2. For this to be a better reality, some conditions must be present for this to be allowed.
3. Young people should recognise that their interests are not limited to themselves, and there are often other people (even the people arund them) that are interested.

Message 1 and 2 is pointed towards adults, message 3 is for the youth.

I don't believe he has something that he has already that he has devoted himself to.

Message 1 and 2 is clear when you see how bored students are with their study, but for this to be a reality, conditions must allow for their interests to open up. In this video, it is seen that dinosaurs just come out of thin air. But reality-wise, adults must set up the conditions for the youth to pursue their interests.

Message 3 is clearly visible 20 seconds in when the guys points out that he "looks past what's in front of him." He just doesn't realise he has people around him that have the same interests as him, which is confirmed at the end of the video.

I'm a biologist, and I'm interested in both dinosaurs and space. With dinosaurs, where I live didn't have the support for these interests. Although, with space, I ended pioneering space biology in my university and country, but this was not possible had it not being for the professors and lecturers that supported my interest.

@strkiky That's some good analysis, and I think your points make sense.

I recently made and released subs for this short and I realized that I was wrong about that bit in my first post (that's what I get for doing a quick guess-translation). Assuming my new translation is correct, it's not that he was already devoted to something, it's that what he could be devoted to was already there and he hadn't realized it.

These are the boy's lines:

I've always been looking for something I can be passionate about.
I want to hurry up and be something.
I want to seize something.
Every day, I mean to squint closely at something,
but I always end up looking past everything in front of me.
I didn't notice...
... that what I could be passionate about...
... was all along...
... right here in front of me!
It was all around me!

The girl follows up at the end with "I've always been looking for a place where I can do what I'm passionate about," suggesting that she was one step ahead of the boy: she knows her passion, but she doesn't know how to pursue it. This is confirmed in the middle of the video where she hides her dino phone strap. This also affirms your second point about the conditions needing to be there.

Yeah that was pretty damn good. Enough for me for sure.

For a soulless studio like Toei, this is even better.

Shame there are no subs lol.
