Similarities between Tohru and I this episode:
- Both get more attached to people than we should.
- Both just want to belong, while at the same time not feeling like a burden.

It was so sad seeing how sad Tohru was having to leave the Sohma house and go back to live with her Grandfather and extended family, especially because of how awful her extended family was to her.

The Grandfather is my new favourite character though, just because of how he stood up for Tohru against her extended family, and how he encouraged her to go back to the Sohma house. And, he's just wacky, which is really funny.

And it was so nice to see how wanted she was by the Sohma family, since Yuki AND Kyo went back to get her. And it was so obvious how much Tohru loves the Sohma family, so it was so great to see the love reciprocated.

And it made me so happy to see Tohru have a place where she felt like she truely belonged. As I too, have struggled with the feeling of not belonging anywhere.

Huh, what really confuses me is that frame around 5:49 of the MC's actual family greeting her for the first time. With the one guy on the staircase, the woman in the center, and the girl leaning against the wall. Look at how warm their smiles are. As if they're genuinely happy to see Tohru. As of now, I still don't believe the implication is that they're faking their emotion here. Their smiles did seem genuine in that frame.

Then afterward, they all start acting like jerks toward Tohru... not necessarily evil or malicious jerks, but just snobs.

Just a trivial thought I had to share. They're clearly acting welcoming toward Tohru in that single shot, but then they get snarky shortly afterward. Threw me for a loop.

This is the most touching episode out of the first 5 episodes. That onigiri scene made my 1/2 tear out *sob.

I didn't expect her gramps to be nice. I thought he was too old to care her grand daughter and grab the situation or jerk like his rest family member. Gramps is old but still nice and strong! Love him.

Looking at this as one who saw the original Fruits Basket I actually like the 2019 version of this episode much better.

The original has the family outright call tohru a slut where as this version does so a looot more subtly and I also looove the explanation of showing kyo and yuki seeing this fight happen rather than just randomly showing up in their house cause "reasons"

With what Ik about head injuries I am starting to get worried about Kyo ):
I wasn't a huge fan of the first half of the episode but the payoff was fantastic. The fruits basket analogy was geat! I'm loving this thus far ^.^

I'm really liking this one so far. It's a refreshing slice of life, especially since I've been watching a lot of action oriented anime lately. And the grandfather antics calling Tohru the wrong name made me feel like I was watching a sitcom for those scenes. And a delightful one at that, with the obligatory moral lesson on how her other relatives treated her vs how the Sohmas did. It's clear why she wants to go home, and which house is her true home.

Those assholes were ready to hire a fucking private detective but did not bother to give a rat's ass about making arrangements for Tohru's stay during renovation.

"I'm home.....with my new family"

This anime is so wholesome, just what you'd expect from a 'Hana to Yume' manga.

God this was such a touching episode, I mean poor Tohru had to tolerate the abusive relatives that she had upon moving back. And that glasses dude he was in the wrong for calling Yuki a “girl” plus these people are such asses that they had to get a private detective just to spy on THEIR known relative for all the wrong reasons. I did cheer when Yuki gave that son of a bitch what for though. He honestly deserved that, not to be outdone by Tohru’s grandpa who is about the ONLY person that even remotely cares about his granddaughter albeit a bit senile because he keeps calling her by her mother’s name but pretty much stands up for her even slapping the glasses dude himself. Way to go, gramps.
I really want to protect Tohru, I really do. She’s such a sweet little angel. No wonder Kyo and Yuki were worried sick about her once she moved back in with her immediate family. They know not have known her for so long but damn do they act more like a family to her than those asses ever did with her. And that’s saying something.

First time i see in anime, someone in the family stand up for someone's getting bullied. Nice moove grandpa.

Nice episode

Morpheus: The Matrix is everywhere. It is all around us. Even now, in this very room. You can see it when you look out your window or when you turn on your television. You can feel it when you go to work... when you go to church... when you pay your taxes.
It is the world that has been pulled over your eyes to blind you from the truth.

Neo: What truth?

Morpheus: That you are a slave, Neo.

This episode just swept me off my feet! โค๏ธ๐Ÿ˜ The emotional depth, especially with Tohru remembering her mom's words about being selfish sometimes, hit me right in the feels. And when Kyo repeats that advice, it just shows how much they're all influencing and supporting each other. ๐Ÿฅบ But Yuki... oh, my heart! His prince-like timing to rescue Tohru, just as she confesses her desire to return 'home' to the Somas, was the moment my girly heart went into overdrive. It's like he stepped right out of a fairytale to be her knight in shining armor. ๐Ÿ’– Both Kyo and Yuki are amazing, but Yuki has stolen my heart. He's everything I could dream of in a character—so composed, yet deeply caring. I'm eagerly awaiting to see how Tohru's relationship with him might blossom. ๐ŸŒธ After this episode, I'm more invested than ever in their stories, and my heart is rooting so hard for Yuki and Tohru. Can't wait to watch the next episode! ๐Ÿฅฐ

Kyo claiming he’s looking for the nail clippers and shigure’s matter-of-fact “if youre looking for the note tohru left, yuki took it” response with kyo immediately running after him was honestly so adorbs ๐Ÿ˜ i’ll expand my thoughts for the series overall once i finish the rest of season 1
