I didn't find it as enjoyable as either of the first 2 seasons for some reason.

Kinda screwy. It tread into kinda Evangelion-style territory with the talk about remaking the world to spare everyone pain and the protagonists' resistance of this, but it didn't make a lot of sense.

This was the funniest of the first three Slayers TV series, but the main plot kind of fell apart at the end, so it sadly kinda balances out to mediocrity.

Filia's predicament is kind of interesting, though. She continues to be wracked with guilt over her people's genocide of Valgaav's people, but she is completely unable to make it right in any way. She's even eventually forced by circumstances into finally completing that genocide (not mentioning the cop-out of Valgaav somehow being reborn). It's a pretty cynical story of Filia's attempt to "do the right thing" being completely impotent and useless. Lina's more primal, immediate, and selfish "fight, live" philosophy comes out looking more sensible.

But don't tell Amelia!

The ending sequence of this episode was kind of cute. Other than that, I enjoyed the previous seasons more than this one. It was not that bad though.

The animation of the final spell to destroy Darkstar was pretty damn epic.

Overall Try was more plot-oriented than the previous two show's. Personally i enjoyed the first two show's more, because they had a lot more gag-episodes. But i did enjoy how after the first few episodes, things really started to move fast plotwise. I was surprised that halfway through the show we almost see the world destroyed.

The end wasn't as good as the first show's, mostly because in the original and Next, the battles were much more personal to either Lina or the whole gang, but now it was mostly about Filia and her part in a genocide. I had this nagging feeling that Filia was a filler character so i don't need to care about her or something.

Overall, after the few slow episodes, this is not so bad compared to the others. Pretty much on the same level.

Hmm. After some thought I didn't like this as much as the others really either. The enemies and what not were the only interesting things really and you only got to know them so much. Xellos is one of my more liked characters from this show. Good that he had quite a bit of parts in this season. Guess Amelia (DUB) was the other character I liked in this.

I probably watch more of the other seasons and what not eventually. I was thinking of giving this a 7. I don't know. A lot of it was really pointless to me and hard to keep watching. The end didn't really redeem either. I think I will give this a 6 overall. Just the last season seemed better.

Not a bad ending: Valgarve gets reincarnated, Philia opens a pot shop with the Jirasu, Goury gives up on the Sword of Light (wut), and we get a glimpse at the delicious legs of Zellos' new boss.

I liked the first 2/3rds of the season, because the mood reminded me of the first season: full of adventures with an unconstrained plot. But the last third was a little more confusing. Even if the overall plot made sense, the complex twists (mostly delivered as new knowledge about the world) stalled the action a lot. I feel a simpler plot could have allowed more character interactions -- because let's face it this a character driven franchise and it's why I love it.

Disappointing opinions above. Anyways I liked it.. and that's all that matters for me.
A surprise was that Hellmaster is a female [o.O].

Overall the season was good. It was a great re-watch.

i didn't get the part with the talismans. why did it stop working? lina used the magic enhancement spell with the talisman's evolution-r so it seems like it was temporary?

Unfortunately this season wasn't nearly as enjoyable as Next id say its probably equal to the first season for me. The ending was really nice and the English in the song was far better then most English songs inserted into anime.

Watched it, i feel Try is more enjoyable than Next... the addition of Filia, Monster/Dragon's lore and Xellos & Filia's opposite attract are quite interesting.

Liked the first part more than the rest... there are some bad episodes as well, i thought the story will revolve around Xellos (with Filia) looking at the premise but not really, about Valgaav i didn't actually care about him as i see he's just a typical disposable edgy villain. The ending was ok 7/10 for me.

Although I didn't care much for the plot, climax was hella epic, I'd say. And overall a very enjoyable season again. Became also really touching at the end, gotta love these characters.

Hope the seasons that were produced a decade later still got that charm and fun vibe.

Fun stuff, but I also echo what many others in this thread have said. This fight wasn’t as personal to Lina as the fights in S1 and Next were, which made me feel a bit less invested.

Still, I enjoyed the season overall. The epilogue was pretty cute too considering that this was the “end” of the Slayers anime series for a long time. Hopefully Revolution and Evolution-R live up to the original run.

Some episodes were hit and miss for me but damn it if I didn't cry at the ending there...

Slayers can be really quite fantastic. 8/10

I feel the same way, maybe there was too much focus on Xellos and Filia? Dunno, but I have to drop the score a bit. 5/10

Finished this somehow and have to say this season wasn't interesting to me at all (except for the two or three comedic episodes in the middle) as much as others as I wasn't mainly a fan with the show trying to focused or shined on the side characters more than the main leads which I couldn't care much when they would be just for this arc alone. Lot of plot beats went with the same flow as previous season but less creative scenes and overall nothing new to look forward here really. Really bummed that my journey with this franchise had come to ended this way and will be missing the cast alot.

If you finish this WHOLE series, you should get a medal, because seriously, the entire second half is ridiculous and you have to be tough as hell to really finish it. Every episode is a lark.

Yeah, the first half had momentum but it died horribly with the filler adventures. The end kind of makes up for it. Anyways, this is an oldtaku series before my time. It's just kind of too bad they couldn't keep the momentum from S2 going, because that's a classic.

Good season, not on the level of one and two.

Not a fan of the last 8 episodes. If they were much better, I would give it an 8 or 9. But alas, it's a 7 overall.

Great climax and strong conclusion to this season! I still like Next better the best but Try was super enjoyable too. The filler episodes after the first climax were very weak though, which was a real shame.
I liked Fillia's dilemma and Lina's speeches a lot. Seriously, Lina is so badass, what a great character, I loved having her be the one who can control both light and darkness, considering how much she destroys and how many people she has saved as well lol.
Valgaav was a good antagonist too, and I'm glad Fillia and his goons ended together!
Slayers, even if it's a light hearted adventure and comedy series, is generally soundly written and very satisfying to watch. Now I gotta finish the movies and then move on to the modern seasons, can't get enough of Lina and her gang.

I think the second half of this season is quite bad. The random fillers in the middle completely screwed up the flow but even putting that aside the show just doesn't end well. Slayers doesn't have the strongest world building but this season still makes a big deal of showing how they're in basically a new world now and even introduces characters from somewhere called "The Overworld" and then...does absolutely nothing with any of that. Almayce gets sidelined arbitrarily and does nothing and the guys that replace him have 0 personality at all and also do nothing. There's no real difference between the places the characters have been to and the "new" world they go to. Valgaav is "fine" but the role he plays in the conclusion is built up entirely in his absence so when he shows up it doesn't feel particularly earned.

This season also really puts any sort of character development on the backburner. Like, remember how Zelgadis' entire reason for traveling is to fix his body? Because he sure doesn't. How about Lina's sister? Yeah, whatever she's never referenced again after the 2nd episode. Any explanation for how Gourry has a Darkstar weapon (another extremely poorly explained concept) as a family heirloom? None at all. Why would you even ask? Its just dead-end after dead-end. The show has gone long enough that it can coast on what its done before and still be watchable but this season is not well done at all.

And why was the Darkstar and Overworld stuff so threadbare? Its not like the show lacked time to explain any of it. For all the time they spend hunting down the weapons it really does all just come together quickly at the end so that they can do literally nothing and then win with talk-no-jutsu anyway.
