THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.

That was actually a good intro of the main characters. I wasnt too sure if Id like Lupin III but it seems like itll be a fun ride. I'll probably watch the main series in about a month I suppose. And lol old anime didnt care if it had nudity in it.

I watched the 4/3 version. The cinemascope one is said to have some difference in voices.

This abandoned prototype was a cool introduction of the main characters featuring a typical "great escape". The design felt more "manga-like", maybe because it was closer to the comic? and everything in the framing, movements, etc, made it better than a simple "trailer" should be.

Enjoyment: 5/5
Score: 7/10

Watched this on the midst of Lupin's new show and the animation totally baffled me!! can't imagine this is from 1969!

Yeah obviously I was expecting some strange stuff from pilot episode like - Lupin voice was weird, Goemon was actually in Detective side and Fujiko's design doesn't feel unique.

This was really fun special title and 13 minute went really fast and might motivate me to watch other 1970s show indeed

it was a pretty jewel !!!
Yes, the voices were different and the way how explained the characters were interesting...but the hardest and the great point was the characters designs, seemed more malicious, more different if compare with the actual characters, there are "sweets" !!!

If anyone is confused about versions of the film, the 1969 original has more dialogue lines at the beginning before the phonebooth scene. In this version, Zenigata is playing shogi by himself. In the 1978 widescreen recut, the scene begins with Zenigata already in a game of shogi over the phone with Lupin.

Seems like that's an introduction to the group. Lupin seems to be a genius thief, his character is interesting. The animation and artstyle is great, I'm surprised by the animation, it's really good!

Pretty nice pilot, and a lot of it was reused on Part I. The different voices felt so weird though. xD

This is where it all started. Solid pilot, we get to know the characters used in the main series and a short hijinx story.

Most of these scenes here were used again for the opening theme.

So before Kanichi Kurita took over, all of Lupin's voice actors had done the Japanese dub of Monty Python. In this case, Taichiro Hirokawa was Eric Idle.

Goro Naya's Goemon voice sounds like the one he would use for Lee Van Cleef.

Great pilot, recognized some scenes from the manga. Fujiko's intro was pretty creative!
