Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu

If a survey were conducted to see if people believed in aliens, time travelers, or maybe espers, most would say they do not; average high school student Kyon considers himself among the non-believers. However, on his first day of school, he meets a girl who soon turns his world upside down.

During class introductions, the beautiful Haruhi Suzumiya boldly announces her boredom with "normal" people and her intention of meeting supernatural beings. Dumbfounded, Kyon learns of her frustration with the lack of paranormal-focused clubs at their school and unwittingly inspires her to start her own club. She creates the Spreading Fun all Over the World with Haruhi Suzumiya Brigade, otherwise known as the SOS Brigade.

Following the SOS Brigade's founding, Haruhi manages to recruit Kyon and three other members: quiet bookworm Yuki Nagato, shy upperclassman Mikuru Asahina, and perpetually positive Itsuki Koizumi. Despite their normal appearance, the new members of the SOS Brigade each carry their own secrets related to Haruhi. Caught up in the mystery surrounding the eccentric club leader, Kyon is whisked away on a series of misadventures by Haruhi and the SOS Brigade, each one bringing him closer to the truth about who and what she is.

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya should be watched in a chronological order. The broadcast order deviates from a linear timeline, which can cause confusion. It is an exciting story, full of unpredictable twists and turns. One of the most intriguing aspects in this story is a developing relationship between two main characters, Haruhi and Kyon. The characters are unique and well-defined, and each has a compelling personal story that adds brilliance to the plot. It is the character of Haruhi who makes her different from others because she has unnatural sense of right and wrong. She constantly seeks amusement and craves for adventures, which often ... leads to funny moments when she drags her club the SOS Brigade.

While there is a slight romantic undertone, it doesn't lead to anything substantial. Nonetheless, it adds a delightful touch to the story, punctuated by a few tender moments. All in all, it is a must see show which is full of funny and amazing storyline excellent character development and interesting personalities.

Mixed Feelings

Despite the rating I gave it, I don't necessarily think it was a bad "show" - it has an ok animation, and to me, it wasn't a torture to watch, like, for example, flcl was. But just like flcl, this show is just too pretentious for what it is. I get it, it's a "parody" - but having still shots that last a couple of minutes, barely understandable philosophical rants and other "quirks" is not required to make a good parody show. Because in the end, even if it's just a mask, it's one of a cheerful SoL comedy. Lucky star, in my opinion, is ... an example of a parody show done right - not being overly dramatic or philosophic yet steadily breaking the 4th wall with the viewer.
Because of this show's specific, I don't think you'll be disappointed watching it, but I still can't give it more than 3/10 - I really don't like my comedy shows trying to appear smarter than they really are
