Asura and Dororo both have a feudal Japan setting and thus share similar themes that characterize that time period. Both are explicit and dark in content, but Asura is without a doubt even less forgiving than Dororo is. Beginning with the cinematography of Asura, you can immediately tell it will be a difficult story to watch whereas Dororo has a more familiar shounen feel in its animation and design. If you think Dororo was already too dark, then I wouldn't recommend Asura as the story content is violent and grim. However, if you liked Dororo and want to take your watching experience to another level,  read more

First of, if you're looking for an anime with a similar story, then skip this recommendation. You're still here ? Okay let me explain ... Corpse Party : Tortured Souls makes me think to Asura before the end of the first episode and this, in several ways : First ; the bloody ambiance. It's hard to say much than that without spoiling. Both are clearly gore with an intense amount of violence. Second ; Asura is a child too. Similar atmospheres. Contiguous eras. These 2 anime show vagrant warriors (a monk in Asura, a ronin in Sword of the Stranger), who, one way or another, save and form a bond with a young neglected boy.

The MCs of both shows are "homicidal monsters", created by their respective dark pasts. This is further developed in the manga of Elfen Lied. The endings suggest that monstrosities created by the ugliness of human nature and society, while love and forgiveness dissipate them.

Violent and gore-filled films that feature heavy uses of 3D CG. Both are dark stories about people being driven to extremes by revenge.

When is it okay to kill? These series focus on this aspect of life. While Shiki is more mysterious Asura is based solely on that. However the moral is the same. Killing others can have serious consequences. Also the reasons people kill each other are very similar in both shows.

even thought Hotaru no Haka not an action or horror movie , but these two movies share an idealistic story on how can people survive when crisis fall upon them or how they will react, will they change?

Both anime are very dark and mature, set during the Dark Ages, and deal with the harsh reality of life and death in a feudal society, with Asura set in feudal Japan and Berserk set in a feudal England-like setting.
