Yu-Gi-Oh! Card Game: The Chronicles

So much wait and delays for THIS???

After over a year of teasing and anticipation, Konami drops a 3-minute animation and expects us to applaud? This isn’t a Sky Striker anime—it’s a glorified trailer, and not even a good one. No story setup, no character exploration, just a flashy encounter that feels like a commercial break more than a narrative experience.

Konami feeds on disappointment, it seems. Every time fans start to hope for meaningful content, they get baited into this kind of hollow reveal. It's not even the runtime that’s the biggest insult—it’s the complete lack of substance. Was this really worth hyping for over a ... year? Because if this is what they call a payoff, they’re more out of touch than we thought.

Honestly, this feels like Pupa-level disappointment—and people are only going easy on it because they've been conditioned to expect so little from Konami at this point. That bar is so low, anything remotely animated gets a pass.

This could’ve been so much more. The Sky Striker lore has potential—plenty of fan engagement, cool designs, and a world ripe for development. But this? It’s like they made something just to say “we did it,” and moved on.

I've been waiting with bated breath for quite a while for this to appear. As an avid player of the game since 2004, it was really refreshing to know that Konami wanted to make a series based on card lore and not on the next plot armored character that happened to have "Yu" as the first two letters of their name.

Roll on to today, and I am pretty much blue-balled. Expecting a 20 minute or at least a 10 minute episode setting up a world to explore over this season and getting...well something I could see more in Master Duel than in the exclusive anime. ... I don't really care much for Sky Striker lore anyway as I don't like the deck it's based on but this could have been a great opportunity to MAKE me care about it. Instead I see a 4 minute clip of what could easily have been from like episode 12/13 of a one-cour anime with no context. Sure I know the cards referenced but anyone looking to use this as a bridge to maybe get interested in the game is not gonna have a damned clue what they are watching.

Now the real question is, will the "lore" continue for Raye and Roze or will it jump to a 4-minute clip of a different branch of the game with no rhyme nor reason? I strongly suspect we are going to get a brief jump into the Albaz lore which is going to make zero sense without any world building so watch this space!

All in all, very disappointed as this has been bigged up since last year and the teaser looked great, but there has been very little new material actually since that.

I'll keep an eye on it each week, but sadly it's not the anime of the season that I was legitimately hoping it could be!

Wasted potential. Bait that just lead to a disappointment. As someone who actually plays yugioh, these are the main ways I always end up describing Konami's announcements.

Sky Striker lore has a manga of 3 volumes. I have read it. There is enough content/plot to make a 12 ep show with 20 min per episode. When the anime was anounced, I expected that would be the case. In reality, komoney never fails to disappoint! A 4 min clip of Raye screaming. No plot. No context. Not even accurate to the manga lore.

Who is this for? No one who doesn't currently play yugioh will watch ... this and get hooked by the lore, because they chose to not show any lore. So it is not to attract new players. I also don't see how the people who play the game are getting anything out of a 4 min clip. Why was this even made?
