I have been born in the right timeline it seems!
This is like a dream come true.
Finally a card game anime that is and feels 18+ and realizes its target audience.
The CGI for the mounters is amazing, it's exactly good in the way the old show was.
I have so much nostalgia for DM and didn't care much for the newer DM anime which aren't even translated in English.
But this in just 1 episode reignited this nostalgia and made me have hope that I can actually get some that doesn't solely rely on nostalgia and it actually has its own merit to it.

This if the Lord of the Rings of anime (quality wise).
I know. I know so many people don't even give this anime a shot because of the perverted nature of the MC, and indeed I get it. For God's sake I don't know why the author had to do this. Or any Japanese anime/manga/novel has to include these repetitive tropes...

BUT! But long term the story is just too good... It goes to such heights that it can surpass these flaws and leave them in the dust.
I am not gonna not give a story a 10 just because it had some flaws at the start ... when later on it goes so much above a 10!
The elements that are gross now to you in this huge and well thought story are literally nothing compared to the depth you will find later on.

Omfg this is amazing.
This is the best thing this season by far.
It covers like 6 genres and it does everything well.

The author of this show is a genius wtf
This is very similar to shinsekai yori one if the greatest objectively speaking anime of all time.
Monsters look original, fights have amazing choreography
Story feels like a mistery that will not waste your time.
Amazing just amazing, the camera work, the action, the story.
Everything.
... Characters feel like actual people not just npcs.
Consider all this praise comes from someone who watched like thousands of anime and only reviewed like 5 max. Yes it's that good.
Artstyle fits story.
Imma so read this manga atm.

If you love beautiful/colorful things and victorian style characters/outfits with depth and RAW emotion this is the anime for you! Imma say it again this does emotional characters so well!
Makes you wonder if it will ever be possible in real life to have bonds like in this show.
It's not just mushy or cheesy, its done in a more inteligent way, it feels. You will care for villains and for MCs alike.
I cannot overstate how the artstyle is so fitting to the story and feeling of the show.
Truly a piece of art and it gets better in season 2!

Average intellect characters in this anime would be giga geniuses in other anime.
So much happens per episode.
It's so fast paced dynamic and colorful.
Characters act rationally and play to their strengths fully.
Plot is consistent and things established early on are used even in later episodes
Exposition dumps are done at 10x speed


I don't usually rate shows because I am not a pretentious anime viewer that gives 1 to shows because they are to sensitive about controversial topics in FICTION.

Especially when those controversial things happen for a reason and establish the atmosphere of the world the characters live in. Also this controversial thing that happens in episode 1 ... will function as a plot device later on, therefore it functions as a cog in the story and its not just shot value.

THIS. THIS SHOW IS A MASTERPIECE!

Do not judge this from the first half of the first episode!! I am not someone who tells ppl to watch more than 1 episode "until it gets good", but this is good from the first second, you just haven't learned the true plot yet and haven't realized it.
So rare we get the chance to see a anime who makes you think like this one.

Unlike detective shows in which you cannot see the entire picture and then the MC pulls out some proof that wasn't even on camera, in this anime you can deduce most things before they are explained by the detective.

The art, the ... colors, the op, the ed are amazing. Vibrant colors and a sorrowful ed with a "what if scenery".

A classic in the makings.
