Mahoutsukai no Yakusoku

For people who criticize the anime I advise you to give promise of wizards another chance. I played the game and the story is really good. However, we have to see how the rest will be animated. I agree that episode 1 was a little weird and that the beginning is a little slow but it's worth it. Also it's not from an otome game/ it's not reverse anime either. In the game we have the choice between the male and female MC, I suppose that since the male MC was chosen in the manga of promise of Wizard, the female was chosen for the ... anime. Also yes Akira is there MC but the story revolves more around the other characters.

Super tropey reverse harem story. A drab and lackluster young woman gets magically summoned to another world where the bad guys are ugly and the main characters are comically beautiful. She is immediately saved by mister sympathy trope who is too weak to go on, but is trying his best.

The show is not bad, persay, if you like this sort of thing. But it is not one that I can recommend. The biggest problem is with the female lead. No person is this stupid, where the plot line is laid out in front of them and they reply with, "I don't really know what's ... going on, but..." when it was literally just explained. She's vapid and has no direction or goals. Honestly it feels like the main character is just a poorly placed mcguffin to help base the rest of the story around. She is obscenely underdeveloped as an individual.

The story is not compelling and seems purely driven by the designed allure of how hot the male harem cast is supposed to be. It's like watching a Japanese reverse harem dress up game play out on your screen. Then there's some doom and male brooding, again for emotional fan service of hot guys. Each character is so quick to reveal some tragic backstory to make him appear mysterious and sexy. But there is no delivery to make it affective. It's the classic show vs tell blunder. And this is all without proper character introduction to actually make them relatable or to get the audience invested in them. But hey, who cares who a man is on the inside, as long as he's hot then that's all you need to know, right? Smh...
