People from Akira worked some years on Steamboy, which you can recognize from the style and animation works. These two films have alot in common, like the previously mentioned things like art and animation, but you can recognize some minor details in characters and settings which will remind you of Akira or Steamboy. I really recommend watching this, when you've seen that. And of course the other way around. Be warned tho', Akira's from the late 80s and Steamboy from just a couple years ago.

Both follow a very fundamental story trope. Protagonist has a trinket that the antagonist want so that they can rule the world. Otherwise, the stories are pretty different and the dynamics between the characters make for different character arcs. Steamboy is very accessible to non-anime viewers so it's a great introduction movie.

Steampunk adventures with creative visuals and great action, but blow apart whatever coherent stories or character depth they might've had.

Both are coming of age stories set in 19th century Europe with sci-fi elements. They share major themes, namely the use and abuse of science; the implications of industrialisation and new technology for human advancement vs. destruction and war. Both anime have a young scientist / inventor prodigy as the male lead, and a female lead whose personality clashes with as well as complements the protagonist in entertaining ways

Packed to the brim with action and suspense, anyone looking for something vigorating and thought-provoking to watch should definitely give either Steamboy or Zankyou no Terror a try. After re-watching both anime I was still noticing nuances and details I had missed before. While Zankyou no Terror is set in the near future and is focused on terrorist attacks in tokyo, with a government cospiracy behind them, Steamboy is set in Steampunk Victorian England and portrays the greed of humans in the form of a mechanical invention that got out of hand. Both are definitely something bound to keep you on the edge of your seat with  read more

The protagonists go on a journey to retrieve an object—a book in R.O.D: Read or Die and a device in Steamboy—from a powerful organization. Both shows concern global politics and power and have British and industrial elements.

They both follow protagonist who are experts in steam engines and stem stuff . suggest you check out this good underrated movie . Fun fact this was the most expensive anime to make costing $20 million . For a 2004 for anime movie it is above average animation .

While being different in story development and action, both these anime are set in an industrial/steampunk era which does give it their unique setting. They're still pretty intense for their own story and do deliver a pretty solid experience when watching them.

Both movies are all about dazzling the viewer with spectacular setpieces in favor of any kind of storyline or character development. They're enjoyable enough if you go in for the visuals alone but neither movie will really leave a lasting impression otherwise.

Steamboy and Mary and the Witch's Flower share a similar premise, but have different genres and moods. The protagonists come to possess an item of great and dangerous power that is desired by the antagonists. The storylines also include intrigue and family secrets. You will likely not be surprised by the plot twist, but this should not stop you from enjoying the adventure. Both movies deserve more recognition for their efforts.
