Mato Seihei no Slave

As his school days draw to an end, Yuuki Wakura worries about his future. While lamenting the prospect of living an ordinary life, he is suddenly drawn into the world of Mato: an alternate dimension filled with dangerous monsters called Shuuki. Over the years since the existence of Mato was first confirmed, incidents of people accidentally wandering into the other world have become commonplace. To combat the threat of the Shuuki and rescue victims like Yuuki, the all-female Demon Defense Force was established. Its members have been blessed with the power of "Peaches"—Mato fruits that grant supernatural abilities only to women.

Though Yuuki's situation is dire, he is saved in the nick of time by Kyouka Uzen, the chief of the Demon Defense Force's seventh unit. Despite Kyouka's impeccable skills in battle, she has long been held back by her Peach-granted ability, Slave. Slave allows Kyouka to put a living being under her control and draw out its strength, but the Shuuki that she had enslaved until now had all proven to be exceedingly weak.

When Yuuki and Kyouka become surrounded by a horde of Shuuki, Kyouka resorts to something she has never tried before: using her ability on a man. To her surprise, Yuuki's slave form is much more powerful than she could have imagined. Believing the young man to be the key to unlocking her true potential, Kyouka invites Yuuki to join the Demon Defense Force—but not as a regular member.

From curiosity, because Bookwalker has this manga on discount sale, to checked out the rating on MAL, and finally saw that this manga has anime, and also an announcement about the 2nd season, then speedrunning the 1st season. Yeah, I'm addicted. What? I'm just a mere man, I have fun consuming this media ok. Don't judge me.

First, let's talk about the story. I know some of you might have the judge's eyes and say, "You just want to watch an H, right?", and to that, I say, maybe? But at the same time, the things that happen do not really go to a very yabai ... territory. I know the reward thing is like the most unnecessary thing, but to me, this is just to make things not too intense. I get that it's not for everybody so, it's okay if you don't like it. You can just move on. But other than that one bit, I actually invested in the story. Really intriguing so far especially because like I said in the 1st paragraph I read the manga 1st and I already read ahead a bit after the portion that the anime has animated. I can see the 2nd season being more fun to wait for.

Animation-wise, it's feels ok. I don't see a lot of complaints about the 3D because it is not really bad and I thought it's actually pretty good. But then again, it's not top-tier animation because it's Seven Arc, the only anime that I have watched from this studio is Dog Days and that series is not bad but also not top-tier.

OST is a slap. I love both the OP and ED of this anime. The ED especially. It's just one of those music that I like to listen to while I'm walking in the park. As for the OST in the anime itself, it's also great. Like I said in a lot of my previous reviews, if the animation and music go well together, I instantly give it 2 thumbs up.

I can't handle the VA. Since this anime is heavy on female characters, I feel like living in heaven. LOL. I mean I can't argue how they handle female characters in this, it's just top-notch, especially Tenka. BOOOOY I love her voice so much. Good job, Maaya Uchida-san, you are doing God's work. I fall in love with her even more because of your performance as her.

Bonus section;
- What they did with Nei at the end of every episode is so cool. I wish a lot of anime did this it's a very good way to showcase more of the power scaling of the characters in the show and I appreciate that.
- I still can't believe 2 of the names in this series. Shushu Suruga and Naon Yuno. Do you understand what these names sound like in Indonesia? First is Shushu Suruga, it's sounds like "susu surga", which means Heaven's milk. And it's very accurate with her power which manipulates her size to small or big. Not to mention they animated her transformation like Ultraman transformation, it's so cringy and that makes it really good. LOL. Thank goodness they didn't name her Shushu Surugawi, which means Holy Heaven's milk. As for Naon Yuno, that's a Javanese word. Naon means what and Yuno means teenager. If it's combined, that would mean, "What is it, teenager?" Yeah weird right? Lol. It's going to be really weird when you talk to some Indonesian and your name is this.

Overall I like this series a lot, it's just a fun watch. Can't wait for the 2nd season. I give this 1st season 8.4/10.

Mixed Feelings

well well, Harem + Echii= this anime...
I really don't like this genre, so I started watching it with a contrary to my inner desires. the first scene was well done, it was like old samurai movies, when all of the village is burned, and it is in black and white, and we see the main threat massacaring everyone in the village, in a very brutal way. this scene is the best scene in the whole show, it is directed well, has good animation and it really delivers on selling you the ... main story point, about the villains and the main threat, so I give it a point.
but after that it was a cringe-fest of just the MC being miserable and acts like he has never seen a girl in his life, being one of the worst main characters I have ever seen, sometimes I don't know if Yuuki or Kyouka is the main character of the show.
the other characters are not better just some bland characters, with big Oppais and booty, except for Himari having a development and story for her-self.
the fan service is probably why you watched the show so let's talk about it... it is good, it is explicit really, they are really arousing.

in the end it is a harem, Echii series with decent story-line and bland characters, so the final rating for the show will be: 6/10

I am a big fan of the ecchi genre. If there’s something this beautiful genre has shown me, it’s that it can compete with any other genre and shine with its great stories. That’s why I’m very demanding with it.

Chained Soldier started very ambitiously. An ecchi anime with a deep story and mysteries to unravel. What could go wrong?

The problem wasn’t the story or the fan service. The problem was the harem. Without a doubt, one of the worst I’ve seen in my life.

How can a harem go wrong? Let me explain:

There are two types of harems. The most common is where the girls fall ... in love with the guy because he is chivalrous, has good feelings, and pays attention to them. The guy is usually a pathetic type with luck who never concretizes anything with any girl out of shame (the dream come true for insecure guys). Most harems are like this.

In the second type, we have a guy who is still chivalrous but has no problem concretizing encounters with the girls. The girls fall in love with him for his prowess and power.

Chained Soldier, apparently, is of the second type. However, something fails: there is no reason for the girls to fall in love with him. It’s not that the protagonist isn’t a good guy. The problem is that the girls fall in love BEFORE he can prove that he is. It just happens. And it’s not a light infatuation. These girls already want to marry him almost immediately.

This incoherent plot development, which seems like a mockery to the viewer, becomes the main development of the story, leaving the plot in third place (the second place goes to the fights), so one can’t help but feel that they are watching an anime that is really a waste.

Now, not everything is disastrous. The mystery behind the plot is quite good. However, the best part is the fights. The battles between the girls, or between the girls and the monsters, are truly epic. There is not only violence but also strategy, reflections, and a lot of action.

In conclusion, Chained Soldier could have been better, but they wasted everything with such a fake and boring harem that the anime ends up being second-rate. When I watched the anime, I thought, “Why make this a harem? It could have been a great story with strong fan service and it would have been perfect.”

THE GOOD: The fights. They are incredible.
THE BAD: The terrible development of the harem and its weight in the plot.
LET’S HOPE it improves in the second season now that apparently the harem is complete.
