Yu☆Gi☆Oh! Duel Monsters GX

Both series are deconstructions of something - GX is a deconstruction of the Yugioh anime, whereas NGE is a deconstruction of the mecha genre. Both series have the main character undergo a very emotional struggle - additionally, the main love interests for the main characters in both series share first names (if you're watching the sub of GX). 

These are both the second anime generation of their respective iconic multi media franchises. Whereas Pokemon Advanced Generation (as well as pokemon in general atm) follow the same protagonist and mostly the same characters, GX has a entire new cast of heroes but we do get to see many cameos from the classic cast. Both are still however direct sequels taking place in the same world shortly after the events of the previous anime generation of this series. Both shows partner their heroes with monsters to battle/duel with friends and renown opponents. Both heroes only seek friendly competition but often clash with the forces of darkness to uphold their morals and do the right thing. Similar to Naruto, Yugioh GX is about a young kid in a fictional school where his talent starts to get recognized by everyone which later saves the day from a dangerous threat. 

Yugioh GX can be described as Pokemon meets Magic meets Berserk to fans in general but as for Yugioh fans, more like Yugioh meets Berserk meets Evangelion. The dimension world arc is somehow similar to Berserk in a similar fashion where it gets dark and creepy along with people becoming sacrificed. Judai's relationship with his friends and co is a reminiscent of Guts and Griffith but in a shonen manner. 

Both are supernatural stories set in a certain setting: Durarara-City Yugioh GX-Island What they have in common is discrimination between certain factions. Both have smart and strong characters. The only exception is that Durarara is superior to Yugioh GX because Durarara is an original story whereas Yugioh GX is nothing more than a cashcow. 

These shows feature a young boy with a brown hair who starts off optimistic but grows cold hearted later on in a school setting where conflict is bound to happen wherever they are. Later they meet the female character who gives them a special power capable of transcending beyond to the point that the MCs will never go back to their normal lives. Both stories contain supernatural themes, dark moments, slice of life, and drama deconstructing the themes continued by the previous shows before them. 

Fate/Zero and Yugioh GX are considered to be deconstruction of their perspective series even though Fate deconstructed it twice in UBW and HF. Both take a realistic and moral approach on what fictional beings are of and what the consequences are. Fate Zero is more darker than Yugioh GX but GX gets darker until in the later seasons. 

Yugioh GX and Trigun starts off with a light hearted and comedic fashion until at some point it gets serious and dreadful which almost makes you want to lose hope. I find Judai and Vash similar where they are very protective but at the same time must face harsh consequences to overcome their obstacles. 

Both of the main characters go to school that specializes in their field; for Soma it's cooking for Jaden/Judai it's dueling, Crowler/Erina want the MCs to leave also both protagonists are really good at their respective fields.  

Both series have a strong Hero theme. Both main characters are somehow idiots, too, and share the color red as their trademark. They actually share a couple of plot developments, too. Both start with everyday life problems, then introduce a human villain with some superpowers and then there is a plot involving alien invaders. In both series this gets rather hilarious, you might also say, silly. Also, both main characters have to face an enemy that they somehow created and who threatens to hurt their friends. The biggest difference is in pacing, since Samurai Flamenco has only 22 episodes (its arcs last about 4-5 episodes only) while Yu-Gi-Oh! GX needs 180 episodes and single arcs last for 26 or even 50 episodes.  read more 

Similarities: I probably need not say as to why, because it's already very obvious. Dissimilarities: In YGO every deck- holder is enrolled in a duel academy, while in CV card holders come form different schools and does card fighting as extra curricular activity (for most of them, that is). In YGO, in order for one to have a couple of top or rare cards in one's deck, a deck-holder has to battle to get it, while in CV top cards were either in the fresh deck that can are bought form a local card-fight store or you also battle to get it. However, rare cards have to be fought to earn it. In YGO the main character is aggressive and experienced deck holder , while in CV the main character is reserve and a lucky beginner.  read more 

Because you will identify and recognize some voice actors in Digimon Savers/Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters GX (Judai's voice actor plays Kouki during Manjoume's voice actor plays Agumon and I guess there are more...), they both have done on the same animation company (Toei Animation), the main character is called 'Aniki' by one of the best friends (Sho and Kenzan on Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters GX and Agumon on Digimon Savers) and... Battling monsters! XDDD 

Another Evangelion-Esque similarity between those two series has what gotten me to put this recommendation. Blue and Orange morality is a trait that occurs between the antagonists of the series whereas character development that changes the character is exactly similar if not same. Plot has what is in common-assimilation plot period. 

What do these series have in common? Deconstruction? Check Emo and Angsty Characters? Check Saving the world by shouldering the burden? Check Wild Ride? Check 

Both shows deal with a male who has personal struggles to deal with and must shoulder the fate of the world upon his shoulders. 

If Tamers isn't the only Evangelion inspired anime, GX too can be considered one. Both series tend to deconstruct their main theme which is monsters and cards to a level where it portrays it realistically. psychologically, and consequentially. Takato and Judai are both based on Shinji Ikari despite being a previous main character archetype and both have personal struggles to deal with despite having positive moments. 

Schools fight each other in competition to see who is the best with the addition of discrimination. The main characters in both series are talented individuals with low status gets hated only to gain respect later on. 

One Punch Man and Yugioh GX have a powerful main char who wins in many battles but faces bad reputation from haters but do not mind their public image. JAM project does the opening in both shows as well. 

Cardfight Vanguard s4 and GX has a few things in common (mostly with s3) but the main reason to why I'm recommending s4 and not the first series is because s4 shares more similarities to GX s3. But the first season is also a good place to start off from if you want to understand s4 to the fullest and enjoy the Vanguard franchise/anime. In s3 of GX we get to witness the change of our main character Yuki Judai (Or Jayden if you watched the DUB) from this happy and enthusiastic to a stressed and depressed duelist (mostly from the sub) where his other self (the haou or supreme king) manifested and took over his body. (that was horrible wording OMG). And during s4 the main character Aichi turns cold and distant, acting unlike his cheerful and kind personality. These both changes in both main characters comes from them being overwhelmed with protecting someone/something that forced them to change and grow out of their old self into someone who can be strong and useful. Both's personality change comes from their will to protect their friends (even thought it's not too obvious from Judai) and seek justice. The people around them find their change unsettling (as Alexis and his friends would mention in s4) and all rather the old version of the main character than what they have changed into. Another point would be both animes are centered around card games and have magic involved in it. And both main character have special eyes that aid them in some sort of way while playing the game or not. (Aichi has PSYqualia and Judai has the Yubel and Supreme king eyes) Both have an evil phase If i were to say more about the similarities of both these amazing animes I would end up spoiling something, but I hope I have helped you in some sort of way to find something to watch!  read more 

Is similar with Yugi world because they have monsters;cards;aventures etc. 

Both of these shows first opening theme song have a section I like to call "Japanese Rapping Korn." Where it sounds like Korn starts scream rapping the lyrics in japanese. 

-both have antagonist's that use tarot cards, use the tarot card 21: The World and are voiced by the same va -both have visions that only certain people can see  

LotGH is a masterpiece and one of the best anime that I have seen, I would dare to say that it is the second best anime of all time it is only surpassed by YUGIOH GX but they are fucking similar works Reinhard is almost as good as Jaden 

Fusion. Fusion everywhere. Digimon Xros Wars and Yu-Gi-Oh GX both follow battles taking place where a ton of fusing takes place to form something stronger. Digimon Xros Wars is literally just fusing Digimon. YGO GX is fusing different monsters, although this is something usually Judai pulls off most of the time. Both are good anime for the shounen demographic which is also slightly aimed towards kids too. Nevertheless, interesting battles take place in both anime. 

Inspiration to become the best. My Hero Academia and Yu-Gi-Oh GX are similar in that MCs have a dream related to something they are passionate about. In MHA, Midoriya strives to become the no. 1 hero out of his love for heroes. YGO GX has the same concept as Judai/Jaden strives to become the next King of Games out of his love for Duel Monsters. Both anime are action coming of age stories about how two young kids go through their time in their respective schools to become the best. With YGO GX based on games, MHA is based on superheroes. 

Both anime focus on a young student who enters a new, unique academy, and is soon swept up in a series of duels against other students. Both are anime deconstruct their respective genres and have a similar mood, although Yu-Gi-Oh! GX is not as heavy in symbolism as Utena. 

Both are a little random episodes, with a little connection, you can miss some episodes and feels normal about it, have only a few arcs. All new episode is a new short story, that makes what the anime are, some you will like, others love, and some, maybe hate. The main characters have the same perfil, little lazy guys, with a logical's reasoning not to strong, but they live for only what they love, one dueling(GX) and be a honored samurai(Gintama). They have really closed friends, whose be with then in all confusion and show what is true friendship and others that aren't so friendly, maybe see then as rivals.  read more 

Both kids anime that have monsters sealed within cards. The monsters in both series are intelligent and sometimes communicate with our heroes. Both have great English dubs and soundtracks. 

Both the second series of popular kids anime that centre around card games and monsters. Both feature spirits of sentient monsters sealed within cards. Both have good art styles and target almost the exact same audience. Yu-Gi-Oh can be more mature in my opinion with Dinosaur King often playing it safe to remain as kid friendly as possible, however I've seen both series enjoyed by both younger and older audiences. If you're into one of these anime I feel you are likely to get a kick out of the other. 

Both second generation continuations of well beloved classic kids anime. Both struggled to see the same success as their first gen counterparts at first but have become cult-classic-like over the years and developed large fandoms/followings in their own right. Both have their own creatures/monsters with unique looking character designs.. 

Both kids anime that follow hearty young heroes who ally themselves with sentient spirited monsters. Both eventually see our heroes in a strange foreign world they have to grow accustomed to. Both have rocking iconic openings as well great humour and characters. 

Both the second series of beloved childhood monster battling shonen anime. Both series follow a group of friends clashing the forces of evil. Both have lovable monsters and characters with impeccable designs and great art styles. 

Yugioh and Pokemon are pillars of childhood for many anime fans and are often what can be thanked for interest in the medium as whole. Both series follow young protagonists with monster partners who seek to conquer the competitive scene in their respective worlds and come out on top (re: King of Games, Pokemon Master). The sense of humour and art styles of both of series' are top notch. Protagonist's from both shows are competitive however mostly seek friendly competition out of love and passion for the activity yet are destined to clash with many dark powers, people & entities that raise the stakes of these battles/duels exponentially. read more 

Both iconic kids monster battling anime with sentient spirits sealed within inanimate objects (beys/cards). Both have a diverse cast of young heroes, both shows monster spirits are intelligent and communicate with the heroes.  

Both classic second seasons of similar kids anime & multimedia franchises. Both have unique and recognisable art styles & character designs. Both also have great English dubs and OSTs. 

Classic kids anime that share a lot of themes and parallels. Young pure heroes that face insurmountably odds facing their respective evils. A competitive game that centres both series respective world building. Sentient creatures that reside within the respective objects they use in those games. 

Both shows have their heroes ally with the spirits of monsters to battle against dark forces. In both stakes get out of control and our heroes end up in more danger than they bargained for. In both the heroes are competitive and want to be the best but are continually thrust against evil opponents. 

Like Eva, both Madoka and Yugioh GX deconstruct their main theme like what Evangelion did. Interestingly they are not to be judged based on the cover of the book as each episode unfolds its true meaning. The only difference is that Yugioh is intellectual and strategical whereas Madoka is psychological and mindblowing. 

Both shows have young heroes fighting against dark powers with the help of sentient monsters. In both these creatures' spirits are only given physical form when transported to a different world/dimension. Both have great character and monster designs. 

More light-hearted than their predecessors, GX and LotT provide endearing characters and whimsical situations. Don't watch these if you're expecting the same feel as the ones before them- you WILL be disappointed. However if you'd like to delve deeper into a franchise about gaming these are two anime that offer a warmer approach to their respective, seemingly darker genres.  

Both contain non human entities intrinsically woven into the lives of our main cast (monster spirits, curses). Both also have the concept of two beings inhabiting the same body.  

Both second iterations of classic kids monster anime. Both have huge selections of varied monster designs. Both were contending shows for a similar audience alongside Pokemon's massive breakout success.  

Both focus of the next generations of their respective franchises (Yu-Gi-Oh & Naruto). Both have an academy where our heroes train to get better (Duel Academy and the Konoha Ninja Academy). Both main characters have an important bond with the previous series Main characters (Boruto being Naruto's Son, Jaden being the next in line for the title of KoG and recognised by Yugi himself and gifted Winged Kuriboh). Both have many characters from their prequel series make often appearances (Pegasus, Kaiba, Naruto, Shikamaru, Kiba, Konohamaru etc.). 

Taking place several years later. A New Generation of players have taken interest in Duel Monsters/Vangaurd. Both anime has new characters in the same universe. The original characters from previous season will make an appearance to help the new main characters out.
