Synopsis

Day in and day out, Kyouko Mogami works multiple jobs to support her childhood friend, Shoutarou "Shou" Fuwa, in his rise to stardom as an idol. She never complains about her way of life, as she is deeply infatuated with Shou and would go to the ends of the world for him. However, her heart is broken when she overhears Shou talk about how he views her as nothing more than a maid he cares little for.

Angered over being used, Kyouko flies into a rage and swears to get revenge on her former crush by entering the world of showbiz to surpass him. Joining the relentless and unforgiving entertainment industry proves to be a challenge, as she continuously meets people who force her out of her comfort zone. But for the sake of vengeance, Kyouko is determined to push herself and rise to the top.

This is one of the shoujo anime that I watched after being into shounen for so long and I have to say it doesn't disappoint! The main character, Kyouko, was a funny aspiring actress and made me want to see how far she would go after throwing away someone that didn't appreciate her. I was happy that she wasn't annoying and didn't go crawling back while giving up her dreams. She was very enjoyable and made me laugh throughout the series. There is some character development and things that are hinted at but never come to light in the anime so hopefully there are more ...

Mixed Feelings
I think the humor here and growth of the MC were pretty great. It's one of the more creative series I've seen for presenting emotions in a way that really made them pop and made me laugh on many occasions. When this series was firing on all cylinders, it went hard, and there were a few episodes that really showcased Kyoko's ability to perform under pressure and produce something that looked pretty masterful, especially considering she's a novice to all this. When she is still struggling with her motivations and her choice to pursue acting in particular, the series is very strong. And many of ...

This series is the antithesis to Ai Yazawa's Nana! While Nana is a coming-of-age story about young adults pursuing their passions and having mature romantic relationships, Skip Beat is about Kyōko Mogami, a teenage girl who drops out of high school to get a full-time job, so she can simp for her childhood crush... and when he inevitably betrays her, her solution is... to stalk him and join the same talent agency, to get her revenge by becoming more famous than him! The premise is just as vapid as it sounds and while I occasionally like a nice romance anime to shut my mind off ...
