oddball immortal mc, interesting character design, weird, cool fight scenes

Both shows are very different from each other, but also both of them are really solid shounen series that are greatly inspired by traditional East Asian themes and culture. Said elements play an important role in each show's worldbuilding.

they both have insanely interesting world-building, as well as similar (disastrous) lack of dramaturgy... nevertheless, i guess i'll come back to it in my mind from time to time in the future (gosh, it's somekinda unique guro-aesthetics — mixed with smth religious...)

If you are a manga reader, you have probably heard the term 'The Dark Trio' which includes JJK, CSM, and Jigokuraku. They are pretty similar in the genre being dark action shounen mangas but just because they are pretty much the same genre, does NOT in any way make them copycats or boring. Each manga has such a unique story and world with AMAZING characters. If you loved the pacing of jjk and the characters you will love jigokuraku. What I love about all three of these mangas is that despite taking place in a completely different world and dealing with fictional monsters and such,  read more

Chainsaw Man, Jujutsu Kaisen and Hell's Paradise are renowned for their grisly and gruesome themes, tackling serious issues with a gory approach. As a result, the three have been coined the "dark trio" of anime by the animanga community.

Same vibe - going off on an adventure in an unkown "world" with a certain set of rules. Both have good action and similar character types.

- Both have humanoid monsters with a mystery surrounding their origin - Both have people with regenerative powers - Both have great sword/action scenes

In both anime, characters are transported into another place where they have the goal of earning their freedom/life back. In Gantz, they have to earn points which can later be exchanged for rewards and in Jigokuraku they need to find the Elixir of Life. They are also fighting for survival with unknown deadly creatures which resemble deities.

Both anime have a similar plot centered in the Japan of the Edo period where a female agent of the shogunate goes to recruit a male criminal/outcast with superhuman powers in a legendary quest for a MacGuffin (or various of them in the case of Katanagatari). Main difference is that in Katanagatari the male character is some kind of samurai, while in Jigokuraku the male protagonist is a ninja.

Both are focused on over-the-top characters and stupidly cool sakuga.

Both shows are stories-in-progress. One is about heaven-that-is-hell, the other is hell-that-is-heaven.

Both protagonists set out to travel dangerous lands filled with supernatural creatures that are similar to demons. Both anime involve a protagonist that can control fire and are connected to an undetermined mystical force. Both anime are set in a historical era of the country that it is set in. Both protagonists are affiliated with a female protagonist during which they are attempting to manipulate each other.

Criminals on death row, get a chance to erase the sentence by going to this island where they have to survive. The criminals have to work together to get away from the island. Love between some of the main charachters.

Simply Epic, both were, for me, amazing adventures and since more of you will know about hell's paradise, my suggestion is Guilty Crown. The first 12 EPs are good, and I'm rewatching it for the 3rd time

I guess this is very subjective but the "vibes" of these two animes resonates to each other. The story are really different, Tokyo Revengers driven by time travel in a modern world and infiltration in Tokyo gangs and dangerous people in order to avoid the protagonist love interest to be killed, and Jigokuraku regarding a Ninja dude that was discharged from his duties because couldn't stand to kill anymore due his wife influence hence making him useless for his retainer and, now, he meets a strong executioner that allergies him safety if he works for the shogun in order to explore an everafter world  read more

Hell's Paradise is one of the standout series from Spring 2023. It was especially beloved for its non-stop action and graphic violence. Like Ninja Scroll, Hell's Paradise is set in Edo-period Japan and has ninjas, swordsmen, and supernatural creatures killing each other. Their storylines simply provide a reason for characters to fight, which is what you want in these types of anime.

Essentially Immortal white-haired protagonist who gets good character development over the series, both are fantasy with great character writing.

If you are looking out for a new shounen, with ninjas, samurai, fights with some supernatural techniques here is one recomendation. Note that, the plotline about is different in each manga, but the scenario concept is really similar.
