The Good-o-meter
Welcome to Ovilee-Day's animelist, the divine source of objectively correct anime or manga takes as determined by me (the most objectively correct anime enjoyer ever, of course). Objectivity doesn't exist sure, but every rule has an exception, and that exception is this MAL page. Enjoy

I can't wait to read Hajime no Ippo as I learn Japanese. The more Japanese I learn, the better the chances of me re-reading the underrated Silent Möbius. Be able to read Japanese like that woman that recommended the Sorcerer Hunters manga to me that day.
Oh yeah! A half-Asian tomboy told me that Trigun Maximum and Berserk manga have been reprinted.
I remember when it used to be on G4TechTV. That's how I grew up with Silent Möbius, Gatekeepers, Last Exile and said anime my tomboyish friend loves. Still not sure why Read Or Die (TV) was broadcasted there. It wasn't even sci-fi.
At around the same time I watched Rahxephon and Last Exile, I watched Ghost in the Shell like every night before high school. I also remember watching S-Cry-Ed at around the same night as 2nd Gig.
By the way, I re-watched Infinite Ryvius a few months ago. I'm reading School Rumble as I wait for further future Macross movie news get announced.
There is supposed to be a Space Battleship Yamato or Star Blazers movie coming out this decade.
The longer story is I don't dismiss a series simply because harem is one of the themes, or there's fanservice. I pay attention to how the writer builds the relationships between the various characters as well as whether or not the fanservice actually serves a narrative purpose rather than being there simply for the purpose of servicing the fans. I also don't dock a series for commonly used tropes, such as the overpowered character or demon lord, although the latter doesn't apply to this particular series. It's how the trope is used, but a lot of the reason for rating Anifureta as highly as I did would have to do with how the writer handled various narrative elements that I often see not handled as well.
That said, despite rating the series hi, if I were to review the series recommendation would be mixed, given the fact the series is likey to attract the attention of those who aren't fond of/dislike harem and there also being a few squick issues, what with how he gets his powers - things I'd go into a bit more depth on and possibly end up with a slightly non-spoiler free review to alieviate worries.
