Kimi wa Kanata

Both are controversial for their technical qualities, but if you're able to think about what their intentions are, they're not bad. Generally more targeted towards younger audiences who care more about enjoyment. 

Both deal with living life trying to reach someone that isn't there. 

Some interesting love stories, resulting in characters going the extra mile for each other. Not like an "on a normal level" thing, but breaking reality and entering supernatural ideas. Ends up being quite a movie, but one could easily call out they are such for the wrong reasons. 

Sometimes you think to yourself why? What is clearly an obvious attempt at repeating a phenomenon ended up failing harder than the Elric brothers' attempt at human transmutation. Regardless, what we have here are two stories of those trying to become with one another through a series of events that involve a lot of the supernatural. Some kind of magical tale to tell for future generations. Would really use this as a Your Name → Over the Sky recommendation, if you want something dumb that is. Do watch Your Name if you haven't already. It'd be a good choice.  

Girl with love issues goes on some insane quest to resolve those issues. TokiKake is really good at doing this in comparison to Over the Sky, however, both still manage to at least present such madness in their own style. TokiKake has a coherent plot with reason and a message compared to a haphazardly attached Over the Sky, I guess it has its zany nature to praise for something unique though. Use this as a TokiKake → Over the Sky recommendation if you want to see something silly. Otherwise, just watch TokiKake if you haven't already. A very good choice. 

A paranormal reality. In a world, as if it were out of a dream, follows weird and wonderful creatures in their quest to help the heroine with her current struggles. Spirited Away is more of Chihiro's job at the bathhouse in comparison to Over the Sky's love crisis. Would take Spirited Away over Over the Sky any day of the week, but be my guest as to which you would want to watch and not.
