Synopsis

In the coastal city of Naples, corruption is teeming—the police blatantly conspire with outlaws, drugs run rampant around the youth, and the mafia governs the streets with an iron fist. However, various fateful encounters will soon occur.

Enter Giorno Giovanna, a 15-year-old boy with an eccentric connection to the Joestar family, who makes a living out of part-time jobs and pickpocketing. Furthermore, he is gifted with the unexplained Stand ability to give and create life—growing plants from the ground and turning inanimate objects into live animals, an ability he has dubbed "Gold Experience." Fascinated by the might of local gangsters, Giorno has dreamed of rising up in their ranks and becoming a "Gang-Star," a feat made possible by his encounter with Bruno Bucciarati, a member of the Passione gang with his own sense of justice.

JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken: Ougon no Kaze follows the endeavors of Giorno after joining Bruno's team while working under Passione, fending off other gangsters and secretly plotting to overthrow their mysterious boss.

After watching the first parts of Jojo and especially Stardust Crusaders, I wanted to watch Golden Wind, but the setting and scenario just didn't grab me initially and I repeatedly dropped the anime after the first two episodes. The story is basically a self contained story of Giorno (who is the illegitimate son of Dio Brando) who lives in Naples and wants to become the Mafia Boss and kill the current Boss. Initially I just did not see why this Giorno was compelling, and I felt like the story didn't have the stakes of Stardust Crusaders.

However, once I got into this anime and forced myself ...

I liked the previous Jojo parts except for one - for the purpose of this review, this will not be revealed until I review said part. However, I have not been more baffled in a long time by a part of Jojo that was 'this' consistent in being badly executed, and I will explain why. The pacing of the story was decent, it was certainly even better than Part 4 and Part 3, but I found no enjoyment in the experience, I couldn't tell why at first. It even did the fights right, there was tension in each fight. But then it dawned on me, ...

This was by far the worst JoJo season I've seen and I just finished part 1 of season 6, which was 10x better compared to this one.

JoJo is a side character in this one.

Story
-
There's essentially no story. It's literally about taking down the "Boss" of the mafia. There's nothing else. The crew and especially JoJo have no solid justifications for going after him. The only one being "drugs are bad, mmkay". The "Boss" was keeping his identity a secret and would kill anyone who would try to find out his true identity. That's it.

The world wasn't in danger. No one important was being targeted, well ...
