Asobi Asobase

During recess, Olivia, a foreign transfer student who doesn't know English, plays a game of "look-the-other-way" with Hanako Honda, a loud-mouthed airhead. Their rowdy behavior spurs the ire of Kasumi Nomura, a deadpan loner constantly teased by her older sister for her tendency to lose games. Not willing to compete, Kasumi declines Olivia's offer to join the fun, but eventually gets involved anyway and dispenses her own brand of mischief. Soon, a strange friendship blossoms between the peculiar trio, and they decide to form the "Pastime Club," where they are free to resume their daily hijinks.

Whether it be failing to learn English, trying desperately to become popular, or getting caught by teachers at the wrong time, school life will never be boring when the girls of Asobi Asobase are up to their hilarious antics.

Overall a funny anime, the jokes are too much and forced sometimes. It's not for everyone tho, so test the waters with ep1 and decide if it's your cup of tea since it's over the top weird and edgy.

There's really not much to write about a slice of life comedy anime, the story is minimalistic by nature and humor is subjective.

Every episode is divided into ~4 short episodes or skits so to say, even strenghtening the slice of life style of the anime. Most of the time these are exaggerated situations with equally stupid solutions, there's always an opportunity to some unhinged joke and this ... show will take every opportunity it has to one up itself. For the same reason sometimes it can be too much, and it just feels forced.

If you want something weird and funny give this a try, if you enjoy the first episode you will enjoy the rest and vice versa.

When it comes to slice of life comedy there are shows that one can’t miss, and “Asobi Asobase” is one of them. This small comedy of 12 episodes is a manga adaptation with studio Lerche at the front of the animation, and for a relatively recent show, it had to meet some high expectations.

Animation is something really important when it comes to comedy because for some scenes or dialogues to be funny, the situations and moments surrounding it must be appropriately done and set ... the tone for the punch line. And as far as I could tell, “Asobi Asobase” delivers, the art-style is different and because of it we are treated to a variety of new expressions and ways of telling sometimes jokes we have already seen or predicted.

Another main point is the characters and specifically the main characters. It is normally not enough to have fun puns or skits if the people on them are not that fun to watch. But then again in this show is able to get it, the main trio is very enjoyable to spectate, bounce off each other very well, and their personalities and expressions complement the comedy in an enjoyable way.

Of course, it has some jokes that aren’t that funny and, in my opinion, does not reach the comedy levels of “Nichijou” or “The Disastrous Life or Saiki K.” but it also has things that makes it a different show and when comedy is the theme, originality is always good. Plus, it was the source of legendary meme’s templates.

I found asobi asobase in the list of the best comedies and it caught my attention and...

Comedy: of course we all know that comedy is a subjective concept, but the humor of this anime is very weak in my opinion, why is it? The humor of this anime basically consists of showing an event with exaggerated characters loudly and with strange facial movements, and it is not clever or unintelligent, as if it does not have any source material It's devoid of jokes. and yes that's why it makes all this absurdity boring and annoying for me

Characters:Olivia is one of the main trio. She claims ... that her English is good and her Japanese is bad because her family is foreign. Although this is good at the beginning, it becomes annoying as she repeats this joke over and over again.
Kasumi fulfills the series' need for a shy, quiet, sometimes scary girl.
Hanako is the best character to watch in the series.

Pictures and Animations:Here is the part where the series screwed up. Yes, this element is not very important in series whose main focus is comedy, but since the producer of this series, Studio Lerche, probably spent almost all of its budget on Assassination Classroom and COTE, we have pictures and animations that are much below average compared to 2018.

Overall:If you like this type of comedy, it's an anime that you can watch. If you don't, you should stay away from it.
But I recommend you give priority to better works, even if they are in the same style.
Watch only one episode because it's the same at the end as it is at the beginning. If you like it, start it. If you don't like it, don't start it.
