Shoujo Shuumatsu Ryokou

Amid the desolate remains of a once-thriving city, only the rumbling of a motorbike breaks the cold winter silence. Its riders, Chito and Yuuri, are the last survivors in the war-torn city. Scavenging old military sites for food and parts, the two girls explore the wastelands and speculate about the old world to pass the time. Chito and Yuuri each occasionally struggle with the looming solitude, but when they have each other, sharing the weight of being two of the last humans becomes a bit more bearable. Between Yuuri's clumsy excitement and Chito's calm composure, their dark days get a little brighter with shooting practice, new books, and snowball fights on the frozen battlefield.

Among a scenery of barren landscapes and deserted buildings, Shoujo Shuumatsu Ryokou tells the uplifting tale of two girls and their quest to find hope in a bleak and dying world.

An unexpected show that captured my heart. Girls’ Last Tour is the CGDCT that was made for me. Cute and existential is an unorthodox combo but it gave me comfort and a sense of clarity. There is something about confining in the hopelessness of life and still experiencing and discovering the simple pleasantries of the every day life. Conversations go from casual to banter to informational to emotional flawlessly. The people, animals, and machines, they meet along the way give our characters more empathy and understanding of the world around and behind them which also taps into having this one and only encounter with them, ... deepening the empirical spirit. Despite this, the most impressive aspect of this show was the score; The music heightens and amplifies this show’s presence. Lingering stares and pans into the sunset, rain sounds and such fills the space perfectly and adds grappling yearning and serenity. The music enhanced the experience and this might be one of the best soundtracks I have heard.

Girls’ Last Tour is cute, existential, desolate, and wondrous. Two girls trying to find hope in the hopeless as they ration and deal with scarcity with one another. They joke and get serious while learning about the world around them. With a soundtrack that ties in and accompanies their adventure, this show is true brilliance! It also might have become one of my all time favorite series. 9/10

Mixed Feelings

This anime can actually get kind of funny which is pretty cool for G rated humor. I guess a Seth McFarlane fan probably wouldn't find too much to laugh at but I enjoyed it. The CG is awful but it's kind of endearing how awfully animated the motorbike wagon is and how it chugs along.

It's a really interesting take on a post apocalyptic setting considering it's just two little girls and no zombies or raiders or anything. I find it hard to believe but I just went on the wiki and turns out it's a seinen. Probably because of how dark the story is.

Everyone killed ... each other off in a massive war and I think the little girls survived because they were underground traveling through a sewer at the time when their grandfather sent them off. It doesn't outright confirm anything but from watching that's what I think happened.

It's a 6 volume manga series and the anime apparently covers the first 4. I'm probably going to read the last 2 to find out if they ever find anywhere that's populated.

I want to give it 5.5/10 since it's not too groundbreaking and epic. Pretty much standard moe. But MyAnimeList doesn't have half ratings so I'll bump it up to 6.

Oh yeah and the robots tick me off. Their interface screen gives me a headache, I hate them.

Oh yeah and Yuu is my favorite character in the series. Usually I don't like "dumb" characters but this one was really entertaining and cute. I especially love the way she pronounces Japanese.

Lol, especially the way she says "gomen, gomen" when she does something to annoy Chito. It's also funny hearing Chito squeal out Yuuuuuuu whenever she's scared.

All of this would be lost in the dub (never watched it) and the way they read the lines probably would lose all the charm.

Shoujo Shuumatsu Ryokou, also known as Girls' Last Tour, is an anime that presents a post-apocalyptic world in which humanity is on the brink of extinction. The story follows Chito and Yuuri, two girls who travel on a motorcycle and are the last survivors of a city devastated by war. Throughout their journey, Chito and Yuuri explore the remnants of human civilization in search of food and parts for their motorcycle, while reflecting on the world they once knew.

In terms of animation, Shoujo Shuumatsu Ryokou stands out for its ... visual style that evokes a sense of sadness and loneliness that fits the desolate atmosphere of the series. The desert and ruined settings, along with the atmospheric soundtrack, contribute to creating the atmosphere.

However, the story itself may seem slow and without a clear direction. Additionally, the humor in the series did not capture me. The age of the protagonists is also not revealed, which can be annoying.

My rating is 5/10, and I struggled through the last 5 episodes to not abandon it. I would not recommend it
