Shoujo Shuumatsu Ryokou

Amid the desolate remains of a once-thriving city, only the rumbling of a motorbike breaks the cold winter silence. Its riders, Chito and Yuuri, are the last survivors in the war-torn city. Scavenging old military sites for food and parts, the two girls explore the wastelands and speculate about the old world to pass the time. Chito and Yuuri each occasionally struggle with the looming solitude, but when they have each other, sharing the weight of being two of the last humans becomes a bit more bearable. Between Yuuri's clumsy excitement and Chito's calm composure, their dark days get a little brighter with shooting practice, new books, and snowball fights on the frozen battlefield.

Among a scenery of barren landscapes and deserted buildings, Shoujo Shuumatsu Ryokou tells the uplifting tale of two girls and their quest to find hope in a bleak and dying world.

It is hard to find an anime comparable to Girls' Last Tour. Some remind us of it, but none have yet to meet the criteria that only this show does so right. Nothing happens in this show, yet things happen all the time. The medium enhances the source material in a way that makes it feel like this isn't just some adaptation, but something of its own. The director of this anime had a vision in mind, one that complements Tsukumizu's original work.

This show has three main characters: Yuuri, Chiito, and the world (some would argue Kettengrad too). The show allows this world to breathe, ... where there is only the music and the gorgeous shots of this amazing world. Too few talk about this show's soundtrack. Not the intro or outro, but other music that plays in the actual episodes. Just like the alphabet in this world is made up, so is the language sung in the soundtrack. The language is gibberish, but they sing it with such passion that they make it feel real. And that is how one should experience this; through feeling.

You can watch this show several times, such as I have, and find new things every re-watch. For example, it is revealed the dance that the girls dance in the intro comes from. It is shown in just about two seconds by the end of the show, but it is a 'blink and you will miss it' thing, and there are many such moments because this show is packed with details.

By the end of the manga, Tsukumizu thanks us for reading their "clumsy work". This anime feels like the opposite of clumsy work, almost as if every frame is a painting. This show is the closest I will ever come to finding the perfect anime

Mixed Feelings

This anime can actually get kind of funny which is pretty cool for G rated humor. I guess a Seth McFarlane fan probably wouldn't find too much to laugh at but I enjoyed it. The CG is awful but it's kind of endearing how awfully animated the motorbike wagon is and how it chugs along.

It's a really interesting take on a post apocalyptic setting considering it's just two little girls and no zombies or raiders or anything. I find it hard to believe but I just went on the wiki and turns out it's a seinen. Probably because of how dark the story is.

Everyone killed ... each other off in a massive war and I think the little girls survived because they were underground traveling through a sewer at the time when their grandfather sent them off. It doesn't outright confirm anything but from watching that's what I think happened.

It's a 6 volume manga series and the anime apparently covers the first 4. I'm probably going to read the last 2 to find out if they ever find anywhere that's populated.

I want to give it 5.5/10 since it's not too groundbreaking and epic. Pretty much standard moe. But MyAnimeList doesn't have half ratings so I'll bump it up to 6.

Oh yeah and the robots tick me off. Their interface screen gives me a headache, I hate them.

Oh yeah and Yuu is my favorite character in the series. Usually I don't like "dumb" characters but this one was really entertaining and cute. I especially love the way she pronounces Japanese.

Lol, especially the way she says "gomen, gomen" when she does something to annoy Chito. It's also funny hearing Chito squeal out Yuuuuuuu whenever she's scared.

All of this would be lost in the dub (never watched it) and the way they read the lines probably would lose all the charm.

Shoujo Shuumatsu Ryokou, also known as Girls' Last Tour, is an anime that presents a post-apocalyptic world in which humanity is on the brink of extinction. The story follows Chito and Yuuri, two girls who travel on a motorcycle and are the last survivors of a city devastated by war. Throughout their journey, Chito and Yuuri explore the remnants of human civilization in search of food and parts for their motorcycle, while reflecting on the world they once knew.

In terms of animation, Shoujo Shuumatsu Ryokou stands out for its ... visual style that evokes a sense of sadness and loneliness that fits the desolate atmosphere of the series. The desert and ruined settings, along with the atmospheric soundtrack, contribute to creating the atmosphere.

However, the story itself may seem slow and without a clear direction. Additionally, the humor in the series did not capture me. The age of the protagonists is also not revealed, which can be annoying.

My rating is 5/10, and I struggled through the last 5 episodes to not abandon it. I would not recommend it
