Nanatsu no Taizai: Imashime no Fukkatsu

The fierce battle between Meliodas, the captain of the Seven Deadly Sins, and the Great Holy Knight Hendrickson has devastating consequences. Armed with the fragments necessary for the revival of the Demon Clan, Hendrickson breaks the seal, allowing the Commandments to escape, all of whom are mighty warriors working directly under the Demon King himself. Through a mysterious connection, Meliodas instantly identifies them; likewise, the 10 Commandments, too, seem to sense his presence.

As the demons leave a path of destruction in their wake, the Seven Deadly Sins must find a way to stop them before the Demon Clan drowns Britannia in blood and terror.

A Redemption Arc or Just a Sin?
Oh, Seven Deadly Sins is back, and this time it’s bringing more overpowered fights, questionable animation choices, and enough plot twists to give a telenovela writer a headache. Nanatsu no Taizai: Imashime no Fukkatsu (Revival of the Commandments) is the highly anticipated second season of the hit shounen anime. The big question is: does it deliver? Well… yes and no. Buckle up, because we’re about to break it down.

Story – A Classic Shounen Power Fantasy, but Make It Biblical
This season picks up right where the first left off, with the Seven Deadly Sins facing an even bigger threat—The Ten ... Commandments. And no, not the biblical ones—though some of these villains do have the personality of an Old Testament punishment. The stakes are higher, the battles are grander, and the pacing… well, let’s just say it sprints like a marathon runner on steroids before randomly stopping for a snack break.

The narrative dives deeper into Meliodas’ past (because of course, the protagonist needs a tragic backstory), Elizabeth’s eternal damsel-in-distress role, and the obligatory “power of friendship” shounen trope. Is it predictable? Absolutely. Is it still fun? Surprisingly, yes.

Characters – The Good, The Bad, and The Absurdly Overpowered
If you came here for deep, nuanced character development, you might want to look elsewhere. Meliodas is still the grinning powerhouse who can obliterate enemies while groping Elizabeth (because fanservice is a must, apparently). Ban remains everyone’s favorite edgy, immortal rogue with big sad boyfriend energy. Escanor? Oh, Escanor carries this season. His overwhelming arrogance and god-tier power level make him the most entertaining thing on screen.

The Ten Commandments as villains? Mixed bag. Some are menacing, some are forgettable, and others feel like they belong in a different anime. Zeldris, Meliodas' edgier younger brother, exists mainly to look cool, while Estarossa is basically what happens when Sephiroth and Madara Uchiha have a lovechild.

Enjoyment – A Rollercoaster with Some Bumpy Tracks
Let’s be real—this anime is here for the hype. If you enjoy flashy fights, ridiculous power-ups, and the occasional emotional gut punch, you’ll have a blast. The animation? Mostly solid, but some moments make you wonder if the studio outsourced keyframes to a potato. The soundtrack still slaps, though, and the opening theme will probably stay in your head for weeks.

For those who love classic shounen formulas, Nanatsu no Taizai: Imashime no Fukkatsu is a treat. For those who expect deep storytelling and top-tier production quality? Lower your expectations, and you might have fun.

Overall – Should You Watch It?
Final Verdict: 8/10 – A flawed but entertaining shounen ride.

This season is best suited for fans who already love the franchise, enjoy over-the-top battles, and don’t mind occasional dips in animation quality. If you want complexity, go watch Attack on Titan. If you prefer strategy-based battles, Hunter x Hunter is calling. But if you’re here for a fun, chaotic, and occasionally nonsensical power fantasy, then Revival of the Commandments is worth your time.

Just don’t expect it to revive your faith in peak storytelling.

The Seven Deadly Sins: Revival of the Commandments


This is undoubtedly the BEST season of the entire series and yet it just barely reaches the average standard. Nanatsu no Taizai is not a bad anime/manga, it is simply so average that people either expect too much or are rejecting it from the start. Apart from the simplest shounen concepts and relatively decent background, this shounen offers nothing more.

One of the main reasons why this shounen didn't succeed was the lack of talent of the author to create actual situations and drama. Most of the scenes had actual potential, but it was just wasted. Fraudin could ... have been a very deep villain, instead, they tried to make him seem deep somehow in the last 2 minutes, which of course just seemed bad.
The hype around the 10 Commandments seems massively meaningless starting in episodes 7-8 and from then on you can hardly take them seriously. They were supposed to present the ultimate danger, but due to the poor power scaling and power system here, every character became situationally capable of overcoming whatever threat they were in. Good pacing and a few explanations could have made up for this more. Unfortunately, the author kept trying the same line like "Oh look how strong this character suddenly is and beats up the other one" and this on a continuous loop. Somehow it reminds me at the same time from Bleach, there was the same problem, when characters became permanently stronger just to make it equal to the plot and power progress.

Through this, many "threatening" scenes also lose charisma, let alone drama. You can put in as good Osts as you want, the fights and scenes just seem average. Except Escanor is there, but I'll get into that later.

Apart from all that, at least you have to be glad that this was the last well-animated season of the series before we switch to paint production.


[Story 4]

So what is the plot of this season?

It would be hard to put it into words any better, it's just a big fighting arc. The opponents are bathed in Hype, only for the hype to be ruined. Then there's fighting in various locations, not much really happening, and then the finale slowly arrives as well. The last fight between Meliodas and the antagonists was very respectable as well as interesting, which represents the highlight of the whole season.

Other than that, that's it, nothing more to come. The most important background and revelations to the story get in the next 2 seasons, but they should rather read the manga or watch a summary, instead of this pain too.

[Characters 5]

The characters are more convincing this season. Meliodas shows more of his true personality and his fears. Elizabeth stops being a one-dimensional character, at least she tries her best. King and Diane go more into their relationship and problems. Escanor is the biggest blessing of the series.

Honestly, one of the reasons I started this manga earlier was because of Escanor's existence. After knowing that this defined man exists, I tried my luck with the manga. And I don't regret it. He is simple, simply the manifested sin of pride. And that is what makes him so remarkable and surprising.

There is no need to look for great profundity here, it meets the approximate shounen standards.


[Music 8 / Animations 6]

The osts are still remarkably good and do a good job of handholding the weaker scenes. It's not much, but this still lifts dynamics and tension.

The animations were worse than in the first season, but clearly above average, at least for the beginning. From the midpoint of the season, they got weaker and weaker.



[Conclusion 5]


Nanatsu no Taizai is one of the most average shounen out there, with some notable strengths and many impressive weaknesses. It tries to look like it could be more than it is. What may be true, unfortunately, it lacked creativity and execution to make more out of this work. A fighting shounen, with decent characters and a reasonably interesting backstory. You can watch it, but this is the point where you should draw the line. Everything after this season can be better enjoyed in the manga.

It had been a couple years since I'd seen the first season (which I very much liked) and I finally got around to watching this.

Lets get the good out of the way:
- The art & sound are great.
- The *majority* of characters continue to be fun, enjoyable and interesting to watch (with nice relationships between them which change & progress throughout the season).
- The fights are definitely the highlight, nicely animated and keep things changing - if fights are all you look for in a show you'll like this one.

Now the bad:
- The writing is atrocious. Like I don't expect much ... from anime, but this is BAD. Just blatant exposition, repeating of the same line over & over, and horrible last minute story elements which have clearly just been thrown in to add more things for the characters to do.
- The story is nonsensical. This whole season feels like an after-thought. The first season was tied up so nicely but here they UNDO so much of it in order to create more story. There is so much of "Oh remember that thing from last season? Well it was actually THIS the entire time"
- I hated Elisibeth last season and by god she's worse in this one. Just so stupid & needy and really drags down the otherwise perfect ensemble.

Look, if you love the characters and the fights, give it a watch but DON'T be expecting a good story.
It's the type of show I don't totally regret watching, but I definitely won't be watching the next season.
Shame.
