Mnemosyne: Mnemosyne no Musume-tachi

Immortality is something many people would wish for. But would it be such a coveted ability if people knew they would be subject to countless attacks because of it? Such is the case for Rin Asougi, an immortal private investigator, because there is no shortage of people who want her dead. Over the centuries, she has met many grisly ends, but each time, she returns to life as if nothing had happened.

In 1990, while looking for a lost cat, Rin runs into Kouki Maeno, a man who feels that his memories are wrong. Agreeing to help him, Rin discovers that Kouki is not what he seems, all the while drawing closer to her true enemy. This adversary knows Rin and her kind all too well, and if she dies by his hand, she may stay dead permanently.

A disturbing but very interesting anime. I stumbled upon it looking for GL, but the synopsis made me interested. Needless to say this anime has barely anything to do with GL, but it's great nonetheless.

The story is just very interesting, can't say too much since I don't wanna spoil anything, but there's a lot more to it than you'd first think. However the storytelling falls short, the concept is really good but it could've been executed much better. The story slowly builds up then comes crashing down in the last 1-2 episodes. It also doesn't help that episode 4 adds little to no value to ... the main story.

Now the anime is full of nudity/gore/torture etc. and it even has a connection to the story, but it wasn't really necessary to include. It's written into the story just for the sake of it, the story would've worked just as well without all the excessive gore and nudity, it makes me question what's the point of going overboard with these themes when the anime itself is heavily story/dialogue focused.

All in all it's an amazing story with some hiccups, it's definitely worth your time if you have no problem with the themes above.

Mixed Feelings

6.0/10 ~ Mess of a story but enjoyable to watch

Watching Rin in 2025 is kinda wild post 2020 Pandemic and seeing where the creators may think humanity might be in 20 or so years after the source material was being written. But most people who watch this are not really here for the story elements but are more then likely here for the Yuri, massive amounts of fan service, gore and overall edginess of it all.

Pros:
-The story was actually quite interesting
--even if it felt like someone went to make an Hentai but then realized that they had more fun writing a real story
-all the ... time skips were very enjoyable and a pretty unique way to portray how the MC's were immortal, watching the background cast age and the development of technology.
-the story did try atleast to make a narrative reason for all the nudity, sex, gore and edginess and did it in a pretty unique way

Cons:
-story was pretty choppy
-not enough character development or world building, was just all kinda crammed together
-much of the nudity felt kinda extra and just fan service-y
-the plot most involving the antagonist didnt make too much sense
-they didnt have to shoot the dog

This anime is a prime example of why Anime is so hard to actually recommend to non-anime watching people. This is extremely polarizing for the gore, nudity and excessive amount of gay sex that goes on in the show to just being softcore-porn. But hay if that is your thing then you may enjoy the story that just happens to be attached to this one.

Although it has an interesting concept and unique mythology, the execution of the anime is poor. It's full of fan service that becomes intrusive, leaning into the eroguro genre about immortal masochists.
The visuals are inconsistent, and the action scenes are unexciting. The music doesn’t fit well with the atmosphere, making the story feel bland. As for the voice acting, it's fine, nothing too outstanding or memorable.
The story feels slow, the characters are flat, and the main character is underdeveloped, so when issues arise, viewers feel indifferent. The excessive fan service makes the anime feel silly and disrupts the flow of the plot.
Overall, the anime tries ... to be edgy but fails to deliver an engaging story. The end result is a boring anime.
