Xebec was originally a subsidiary of the anime studio Production I.G. and it specialised in the production of television anime. Xebec became independent in 2007.
After a long period of financial struggles Xebec ceased to exist as a business entity on May 31, 2019.
Xebec's assets have been divvied up among several companies: the animation production and production management divisions have been sold to Sunrise, which utilized these resources to create a new company. The studio in Nerima Ward in Tokyo (formerly Xebec Zwei, now I.G Zwei) continued working on the Fafner in the Azure - THE BEYOND series. The animation coloring and finishing division were transferred to Signal.MD.
