Both series are insanely fun, insanely awesome or just insane. Both seem like some screwed up story which turns out to be more than just nonsense.
report Recommended by RoadLord
similar ideas - whole series revolves around the idea of "pick a theme for the episode, then have your protagonists attempt to fit into it with hilarious consequences".

Zany Parallel Worlds.

- Similar fast-paced comedy - In both English dubs you can tell the VA have a lot of say with how they're translating the humor - Pretty out there with the ecchi jokes

both by gainax, same adolescent quirky feel

"Sorry if you find any typo, english is not my first language." Mainly, in these two series one can notice similar environments. They focused on the japanese culture and its myths, you can see monks, parallels worlds and almost anything can happen there. This is why this serie is a really great recommendation, for the variety of topics that cover in each chapters. Two short series that can enjoy in your free time.

The story begins in a shopping district and has some fantasy stock. The character design in Tamako is cute though.

Abenobashi and Luluco. Both series show satires / parodies to other series, in an adventure trying to find its true home, between so many parallel worlds. The protagonists will see different versions of their world, which are products of magic (in Abenobashi) or Science Fiction (in Luluco), although everything can always be a nonsense.

- Two main protagonists go on adventures together - Both shows have a very similar, nearly episodic formula - A new world gets explored every episode - The protagonists have contrasting personalities but have a strong chemistry - Both shows feature supernatural and magical elements Both are studio originals and are quite experimental. Also both shows feature very pleasing visuals and fantastic animation. If you enjoyed one you will likely enjoy the other for similar reasons.

Kinetic comedies themed on reality and moving forth with life. Both shows invoke groundhog day plots. Both are funny, emotional, and mature.

in both of these titles the main characters travel to and explore creative and whacky worlds. while Abenobashi has underlying serious elements Space Dandy is purely comedic, though both are a lot of fun to watch.

Characters in both series have to travel around a world that is a weird version of the real one and feature a lot of wacky and insane things.

Similar atmospheres, a high paced trip through eccentricity. Both have overly enthusiastic energetic guys paired with a girl facing various adventures. Also share the same sense of humour.

If you like comedic tension between a girl who follows the rules and a boy with a wild imagination, both of these might appeal to you.

Jump to parallel worlds, where all the characters involved, and only the protagonists know of the changes. - Difference: Parody-Comedy / Mystery-Shoujo
report Recommended by JuanShot87
Goofball comedy, about teen protagonists, their family and friends, in various settings which parody several genres with references to famous titles, mostly episodic, but with an overarching serious plot, coming of age, dealing with an existential problem, which the various adventures may be metaphorical for escapism.

If you enjoyed all the slapdash Japanese-flavored pop culture trivia, then your next step is a no-brainer. Speeding along at the same diabolical pace with no mercy for stragglers, these two shows are made of the same parody extravaganza material.

Both are very funny anime. If Oh Edo Rocket was a multiverse it would be like Abenobashi. For the greatest effect start watching Azumanga Daioh, then The melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, then Lucky Star, then Kannagi(the last three are strongly connected), then go deeper in the universe of otaku with Genshiken(think of it as Lucky star after high school, at university), chill of with Sketchbook full color (similar to Azumanga Daioh), combine all of them into Pani Poni Dash, then go nuts with Abenobashi Mahou Shoutengai, and top it off with Oh Edo Rocket, and enter the long run with Gintama. Other funny anime that I didn't find  read more

LoveCom and Abenobashi are both comedies with an entire Kansai-ben cast! The humor in Abenobashi is a hundred times wackier than anything in LC, but you'll definitely get a laugh out of them both! Also, if you want to hear some more from Akemi Okamura (Risa), she plays a supporting character (Sayaka) in AMS.

Both series employ a similar humor (and include fanservice) at the beginning of they chapters. Subsequently they reveal a melancolic background. If I make a comparison, Brigadoon is better than Abenobashi, although both are highly recommended.

Abenobashi is perhaps the first time the true madman energy of Hiroyuki Imaishi that you see in Kill La Kill was let off the hook. Check out episodes 3 and 12, which he directed in particular. You'll see a lot of Gainax's other work in here too.

Similarities - Both MCs are sent into another dimension and try to get back to their original dimension - Both MCs encounter different worlds and discover lore regarding their situation - Both MCs have a female companion on their journey Differences - Abenobashi uses a lot of comedy and childish humor VS Sonny Boy uses a lot of plot twists and mystery to add depth in the series. - Abenobashi is an isekai with 2 people VS Sonny Boy is an isekai with an entire class - Abenobashi spend an episode's worth of time in different dimensions VS Sonny Boy spend multiple episodes (and time skip if needed) in different dimensions

Abenobashi has a lot of the same madman Studio Gainax energy.. Check out episodes 3, 5, and 11 in particular for high octane zaniness.

main characters and side kick in Magic Sisters movie resembles a lot to Abenobashi's ones, also lewd grandma appearance in both WTF! Story wise they differ but the style is the same as chaotic, using and trusting magic to resolve everything!
report Recommended by Berry-Vodka
An otaku guy gets stuck in a fantasy world with a girl and has the end goal of making it back to Japan. Sounds familiar? Both shows have a focus on comedy and have a fair bit of fanservice. Biggest differences: -The animation style. -Abenobashi can be a bit more serious at times. -Abenobashi doesn't focus on a single fantasy world.
report Recommended by TheAnimeToast
The main characters are basically the same. Energitic, optimistic and stubborn. A typical shonen-boy. Both animes have drama, good animation and the fact that the main characters travel to unknown worlds.
report Recommended by Klad
Seeking happiness through escapism by embracing nostalgia episodically in bizarre world settings rich with various otaku and pop culture references ranging from anime, movies, music and games are common tropes in these series. Moreover in both shows, the male protagonists for better or worse are troubled by blue and red haired sidekicks, both of whom fall more along the line of saboteurs than helpers.

You want to see some sort of sarcastic-absurd-comedy anime, which turns out to be treating some serious and past-laughter subjects? You're on the right path then. Check these two.

- Similar comedy style and a cast of characters - Main characters are best friends or like chosen family - Has elements of mixing fantasy with SOL
report Recommended by cornonacob
Very off the wall, slapstick, random kind of humor. Something happening around every turn that is not what you're expecting.
report Recommended by mabikashira
both parody, anime parody, ecchi, boy-girl couple, one scene: distcrict jokes and parodies of the time when the anime have been aired
report Recommended by Savo-
Style of comedy is absurdism. Has one logical character, while the rest are absurd. However the similarity strays from there.
report Recommended by kireev20000
Crazy ideas of creators, many funny references to other series, hilarious plot and abusing of fanservice to make it even more hilarious. Abenobashi is less random and is parodying mainly classic series and movies. Must see for fans of parodies
report Recommended by Rychulubicz
This recommendation is quite silly, but you can find exploding boobs in both of these.
report Recommended by Deithwen
A grand story filled with madness, memorable characters, humor and story arcs many anime have copied. If you're looking for a little escapism give this one a shot. The dubbed version is pretty good too.
report Recommended by Gin_Blossom
Same concept but Abenobashi is implemented better, boy and girl trapped in a fictional world fighting to return to reality.
report Recommended by ReasonDesu
The things one does to fix things for those they love. Countless space/time warps
report Recommended by TCHaos
If the kids in this show grew up and went to high school they would fit right in with the main characters from who hang out with Haruhi Suzumiya. Both shows tackle magical subjects, and lead roles who try to avoid their harsh and often boring realities for worlds of their own creating, where fun and fantasy offer a needed escape. Though Abenobashi is a bit more whimsical than Haruhi, they both lampoon (to a certain extent) other typical anime genre's and conventions.

Characters have similar attributes (note, I'm only comparing the two main ones) ...and the action / comedy is of equal value. This series isn't long enough to moan about either, give it a shot.
