Both have people that are sent back to the past. Zipang, they have a vast amount of knowledge to draw from that will help change a large war and subsequent events to come but try not to leave any significant impact on the timeline for fear of the butterfly effect and grandfather paradox. Steins;Gate, they use time travel freely and consequently create many paradoxes in which they need to keep using a time machine to go to the past and close/fix the paradoxes.

Both deal with war Both deal with ships One deals with friendships and bonds The other deals with alternative histories and complex characters. If you liked arpeggio you'll probably enjoy Zipang.

Dr Stone is similar to Zipang because of 1. Time travel element(although Dr Stone's time travel mechanism is different, still the idea is same). 2. The trope where ancient characters are surprised by modern technology. In Zipang, Americans and Japanese soldiers are surprised by Mirai's abilities. In the same way in Dr Stone, the ancient characters are surprised over and over again by modern technology.

Both are centered around navy, and has naval combat. However Zipang is more serious than Haifuri (No moe moments.) Oh hey! (Mostly) men only crew with Zipang, compared to Haifuri.

Both have ship battles, and share the same art style. Zipang is a lot newer, but Silent Service is still a good watch.

Both follow the same theme. What will happen when a future civilization meet a civilization from the past? While Zipang take it more seriously both shows are quite similar. The Gate feature fantasy and lot of comedy in between scenes while Zipang is more realistic, gate does have more mature/violent scenes while it looks more friendly. If you like anime where that the main cast is far superior and beat the shit out of their enemy it is a good show to enjoy without relaying on too much of superpowers, but advancement in science. I guess?

Main characters go back to the past with their vast knowledge of the future. Main characters go back to the past with superior technology that can be used to change the outcome of a war significantly. Main characters in Zipang are conflicted about using their knowledge to change future outcomes, fearing the butterfly effect and grandfather paradox.

Both contain heavy references to military warfare, and contain an important military theme throughout the shows. Both also contain naval heavy plots, however Full Metal Panic also contains more slice of life, as opposed to Zipang's more thought provoking and interesting plot.

The two anime do share a critical and fairly realistic look at military personnel, tactics and the geopolitics behind it all. There is no mecha in Zipang and, thanks to a glitch in the space-time continuum, it takes place at a critical point in WWII rather than the present. If you enjoy thoughtful anime, and military themes, I recommend both Flag and Zipang.

Love Military? Love war? Love alternate history? Then, if you've watched either of these anime's, then i'm sure that you're gonna love the other one. Valkyria Chronicles focuses on the alternate world aspect, with tanks etc. and contains some Romance, whereas Zipang focuses on what would happen if you were sent back in time, and had the chance to change history and turn the favor of a war.

Death Note and Zipang might seem quite different on the surface, but there are several elements in them that are very similar which could make one worth watching if you enjoy the other. Both feature a battle of wits and ideologies between the antagonist and protagonist, both have a very smart and manipulative 'bad guy', and both pose moral questions about the worth of human life and whether taking it is ever justified. Both have plenty of suspense too as the plot develops, the only difference being that Death Note has a far more 'satisfying' ending than Zipang does.

If you are a fan of ship operations, commanding ships, playing around with weapons and find yourself shouting "Activate CIWS!" then either would be a good watch.

Zipang and Legend of the Galactic Heroes contains socio-political discussions and philosophical dilemmas that separate both series from other military series. In Zipang, a Japanese warship gets transported in the middle of the Second World War and its crew must decide how to handle themselves in this situation. How would modern Japanese reconcile their identity and pacifist mentality with Imperial Japan? What should be their role as they encounter American and Japanese forces? In Legend of the Galactic Heroes, Galactic Empire and the Free Planets Alliance have been at war for over two centuries. Each side representing the best and worst aspects of monarchy and  read more

Zipang and Grave of the Fireflies are stories about Japan's experience in the Second World War. Zipang shows the experience of its military in 1942. Grave of the Fireflies shows the experience of its civilians in 1945. Both anime have complete different tones and themes, but offer an insight into how some Japanese view the Second World War in the dialogue and experiences of its characters. Note that some viewers may consider Zipang to be supportive of Imperial Japan, but not to the extend of denialism.

Zipang and Crest of the Stars are military series that emphasizes battleship engagements, politics, and comradery. Zipang is a historical fiction set in the Second World War. It follows a navy crew who are mysteriously transported to the past and have to reconcile themselves with being modern Japanese stuck in the Second World War. Crest of the Stars is a space opera that follows two main characters and their role in an intergalactic war. Both series take the unusual approach of centering their narrative on the point of view of the expansionist power and having the viewer support them despite being the aggressors. Zipang and Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2199 are military series centered on the experiences of a battleship and its crew as they are plunged into war. Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2199 is a space opera set in 2199 and Zipang is a historical fiction set in 1942, but both series explore similar themes such as morality, duty, and courage. It should be noted that some viewers might be uncomfortable or disappointed that the Mirai crew (Zipang) do not consider that their actions may directly support a government responsible for Japanese war crimes during the Second World War. Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2199 does not have this problem as  read more

Are you looking for more stories about Japan's experiences during the Second World War? Zipang shows the experience of its military in 1942. It follows the crew of a modern battleship that is mysterious transported in the middle of the Second World War. The Wind Rises shows the experience of its civilians working in the aviation industry from 1925 to 1945 as it increasingly becomes militarized. Although both anime have different genres, they provide an insight into how Japan views the Second World War.

Both main characters save the life of a person, little does they known it will change the future for both of them. The art in the anime is similar if I haven’t forgotten and they aired same year. In Zipang the main character is not alone, but you can feel the same feeling as they both try to stop the person who is evil and take the responsibility for their action and what they have done. I think you will like them both very much if you like one of them.

Zipang is a historical fiction anime set in the Second World War and following the conflict from the perspective of Imperial Japan. Saga of Tanya the Evil is an isekai anime set in an alternate universe during a reimagined First World War and following the conflict from the perspective of Imperial Germany. The main characters in both series use their knowledge of the future to change events, which may favour Imperial Japan and Imperial Germany. Anyone who likes military anime based on historical events should check out this recommendation.
