Both shows have a mostly female cast. The stories are driven by comedy, although Etotama has more of a plot than Sabagebu. Neither anime takes itself very seriously, as most of the events are random, ridiculous, or nonsensical. Both shows also have action: in Sabagebu, airsoft guns are used, whereas Etotama is more of a chibi Super Smash Bros. kind of thing.

Even though both anime look very different, they have many similarities. Both anime are about the zodiac and have 12 characters which are based on the zodiac (in etotama they are all female, in juuni taisen they are mixed male/female). In both anime the main character has to fight the other zodiacs in order to have her wish granted (the MC of etotama is actually outside the zodiac and her wish is to join it) and thus have plenty of action. The main difference is that juuni taisen is much darker while etotama is less serious.

Both are currently airing anime (in spring 2015 season) with really cute characters designs; the main heroines of both anime are cat-like girls with nekomimi and adorable fangs who try to achieve something: be part of a successful rock-band in "Show by Rock" and join the Chinese zodiac in "Etotama". Both anime contain battles, and in these battles the character designs change into chibi-style, with CG animation.

This is a weird pairing, but they both show characters with a sudden weakening characteristics. They are also deeply rooted in finding evil that grows in you and destroying it. Both anime also have characters who are trying to gain a higher standing among their own, and both focus on the worlds of gods.

Comparable tone- manic, slightly bizarre setting with a similarly strange sense of humour, yet also shows hints of a much larger, serious overarching plot. And 2D lore, 3D transformation fights.

They both female MCs that are capable fighters. Both shows make use of a similar blend of action, slice of life and comedy. Although Etotama makes fun of anime and its community in general and Ben-to bases its comedy on the ridiculousness of supermarket situations that involve buying food.

Same concept with the Chinese Zodiac signs + the cat humanized, but the protagonist is a male and the Zodiac animals are all females. Etotama is more comedy focused though and has 3D chibi sequences which might be disliked by some viewers. Both shows are focused on the cat and the rat.

Main cast is full of cute girls with some nice battles scenes and some really nice 3d animation !

Same Character Designer, same voice actor for the main male protgaonist along with the half-goofy, half-serious setting makes these two anime series pretty comparable in my opinion. Both have comedy that (sometimes) breaks the 4th wall. The production of both series is also pretty (unexpectedly) good. If you liked one of these shows, consider giving the other a shot as well, even if they're thematically not all too similar.

Both have animal girls and have some comedy in them. Both also have characters who don't know who they really are and are striving to find that out.

- mc and bunch of girls who live / hanging out with him - one of that girls is genki, has more screen time than the others, and has somewhat amnesia - interesting concept (chinese zodiac and choises) - breaking the fourth wall in Etotama and parody humor in NouCome

Mythical creatures reimagined as cute girls spend their time in a regular world with a dose of meta humor.

Both have amazing CGI battles that take place in an alternate world/dimension.

Both these anime are not what they seem at first glance. The third episode in both should tell you that. Both Madoka Magica and Etotama are in the moe art style. While this anime has 13 girls to Madoka's 5, all the girls are very diverse and seem to be more than your generic harem girls. The girls in Etotama transform in a magical girl esque way. Madoka Magica is far darker than the two, and Etotama is a comedic parody of the Chinese Zodiac, but if you really think about it, they're really similar when you watch the first three episodes...

An odd recommendation, true, but I'm making this one purely on the basis that these 2 shows are the ultimate proof that, in the right places, 3D-CGI can make possible some of the most awesome action anime has to offer. If you aren't convinced that 3D animation has legitimate merit, then with any luck you'll find that these shows will put your unwarranted distaste for it to rest. Both are also pretty funny, with the key difference being that Ginga Kikoutai Majestic Prince doesn't seem to be like that on purpose. Etotama's packed with anarchic scenarios and larger-than-life characters that make it a laugh-a-minute series, while  read more

Plenty of characters are similar especially Nya-tan and Nep-nep. Both are also pretty much and everyday gag-type anime and the main character are useless at everything save for fighting, messing things up and pissing off everybody.

Both are battle centric anime that star humans with animal features(ie cats girls, dog girls and bunny girls) with magic and hints of comedy. They also have a normal human male as the lead. Also kinda fanservicey though Dog Days has a lot more.

Despite the main focal character (Eruna and Nyaa-tan) have different goals and directions, they share a similar personality. Both anime have great comedy and involve battles. They both aired on the same season.

Moe anthropomorphism design aside, Etotama and Di Gi Charat Nyo has an energetic albeit dumb female main character that freeloading with their human tenant. It has the similar type of gag comedy and puns along with the occasional breaking the 4th wall. There is also a common trope of strong rivalry with one of their anthropomorphic kin and occasional friendships bonding and battle. The themes on Di Gi Charat Nyo is more random as it was composed of short gags of their daily life, while Etotama is mainly focused on the battle-of-the-week that is done by Nya-tan. Although judging by their appearances, they might seem  read more

Both has the Chinese zodiac. Etotama has lots of girls, while Fruits Basket has a larger amount of guys.

A similar series as it deals with the lives of Nyan-Tan the personification of the mythycal cat from the chinise calendar as the character starts living in the human world. The main characters are really funny as the other side characters that are also the other personifications of the animals of the chinise calendar. Some parts deals with a good blend of 3D CG animation with 2D but is better than more of the japanese series that have tried that kind of style. Funny and cute also.
