I was legit wondering about them.
So.... let me get this straight, someone IS currently working on the light novel? I don't mind if it takes time so long as progress IS happening. To be honest, even the two official Viz releases had some serious errors in them, but I mean, so long as it's readable...
Do you know what happened with the damn Eternal Song manga? I'm PISSED it's only 5 volumes and it only goes to 3.5 in English. Someone did more than half and just gave up. God.
Do you know any translators or sites or something? I actually bought Eternal Song in Japanese and even some guidebooks and what I wouldn't give to translate them!
Honestly, I totally agree with you here! When I heard about Shana's productions story (the fact 2 was made before the Light Novel even FINISHED), they did a pretty good job.
I truly truly truly hate that half-assed Tempa Josai addition at the end of 1 and how they butchered Friagne's finale to make room for it, to the point I actually re-edited episode 6 with the movie to make my own custom (as close to the LN as possible) episode that I watch from now on. The real episode 6 is such a wet fart for Friagne, I can't handle it.
The fact it's as consistent as it is is a testament, I agree. And I really only started to have serious questions in my 2nd or 3rd watch.
It's just... I fell in love with Shana because it's a story about details, so when those details DON'T make sense, ugh, it eats away at me. Hopefully that makes sense.
I also like what they did with incorporating the events of 1 into 2, and I don't hate Fumina's appearance either, I just hate that 3 is almost verbatim light novel WITHOUT addressing much of the changes from 1 and 2. Even a LINE from Snake mentioning that stupid statue would've been enough. But instead, it's all from the light novel, where I *do* get the plan, how the Tyrants work, all that. Such an easy fix.
If only they had just waited for the Light Novel to almost be finished before trying an anime, because after reading volume 1, I personally think the anime did it way better initially.
Anyway, about your explanation, actually, you're right on. The Tyrant II collected emotions to fabricate an artificial Aggregate Will that would resonate with the Snake's Aggregate Will (essentially the essence of who you are, your consciousness/soul) in the void, so he could implant into it. This is all from the Light Novel too.
After enough time, it could even have pseudo-conversations, despite originally just being an empty man-made void, as you stated.
So you can see why this process would take hundreds and hundreds of years.
Damn, I really like your explanation for Fumina though! I love it, in fact! That... makes total sense to me! Thank you so much for that! I feel a sense of relief, for real, haha. It even allowed Hecate to remotely control it if need be too, so yeah, that makes total sense!
Since Hecate is a favorite character of yours, what did you think about her little depression arc? It made sense to me, as literally being the sacrifice for the Snake, with no purpose with him in the void, I can imagine that developing.
Her tear at the end of 2 when the Statue is destroyed is really the last bit we get of that arc, so I'm guessing Fumina's existence allowed her to get some sort of fulfillment as well? Vicariously living through them, and all that?
That's how I took it anyway, especially since she did say at the end of 2 that her "emptiness was filled" and all that.
There's one thing unclear for me though. Tyrant I remained inside Yuji but II was used in the Statue, and was it destroyed? What happened to it? I would not have risked that thing that took hundreds of years to perfect as the heart of it.
I know in Shana 3, Yuji uses the Silver as an Unrestricted Method attack spell (from Dantallion, alongside the Dragon Tail; he can and does summon a lot of them, no doubt using its replication ability), so is that through I? Or maybe they backed up II? Or by that point with the Snake in control, the actual bodies of them didn't matter anymore?
Tyrant II must have synchronized with I inside the Midnight Lost Child, because it's through I that Snake was able to talk with Yuji and contract him. He wouldn't have been able to if the artificial Aggregate Will wasn't active, and the Tyrants were supposed to synchronize eventually too, so, yeah, it's not outright explained, but implied at least.
Still wondering if it really was destroyed or not though.
There's one thing that still confuses me, and this is even in the Light Novel. The Grand Order, and Psalm itself, are thousands of years old, and Bal Masque has been working on it for that long too. During that time, the Midlight Lost Child simply didn't exist. In fact, I'd say it didn't exist for most of it (especially far past both Tyrants' creation too), as Pheles and Johann were around 1-3 hundred years when they created it, at MAX (don't know the exact time).
So if these Tyrants were around before it existed at all, what was the plan supposed to be? Do you know? It becomes such a critical part, it's almost hard to understand how they were going to go about this before it came about.
My best guess is having it just made the entire process far easier. The wikia states that Tyrant I was originally supposed to be used as a powersource for Tyrant II (IE, the Snake of the Festival), and I'm sure Hecate would still need to be sacrificed for the Divine Summoning to bring about Xanadu.
Just curious is all. I'd KILL to read the light novels for myself and read all this myself. -_-
I actually don't mind your explanation either. It does make sense, especially for a crazy Dantallion ploy too. The one thing I found kinda confusing though was they admit that if it actually was brought about outside the Seal, every Flame Haze would immediately be tipped off and sense it.
But uh... why would they want that? They literally spend all of 3 trying to guard and fight the Flame Haze from interferring.
A little weird, but it did come FROM Dantallion, so I guess... that makes sense.
All of the Trinity were pretty nonchalant about it failing though, almost like they either didn't care about thousands of years of work going down the drain or already knew the Snake had or would/could manifest inside Yuji and the MLC? Bit shaky on this because they all seem perplexed that he DID choose the Mystes in 3, but it's minor.
Honestly, man, this helped A LOT! It's definitely not perfect, but it..... kinda makes enough sense now. And I totally agree with you that for what it IS, it works pretty well! There are some anime written as-is altogether that doesn't make as much sense! Haha! So yeah, quite a feat!
But what the hell is the deal that all of Shana's predecessor, Mathilde (IE, Eternal Song) wasn't made into anime?? That's literally a huge PART OF THE STORY and I just cannot believe they never even tried. Shana S should've been that too.
(Still a huge sore spot, if you couldn't tell!)
Oh god, where do I start?
Well, I've read all that is available in English (so, 2/22) and would literally give anything to read the full thing, letalone more. The sad thing is, being an English Shana fan is one of the worst fates.
All I have is a badly written wikia to go on, which, don't get me wrong, has helped me understand a lot, but my biggest problems lie in the additional stuff the first anime and second specifically added to the story that then wind up directly contradicting 3.
I saw Hecate was on your top characters, so I'm very curious about what you thought regarding the ending of the first season with her emptiness, syncing with Yuji and all that and then her faux vessel Fumina in the second series. None of this happens in light novel.
Hecate's added characterization doesn't bother me, what DOES bother me is that finale with that "Statue/Effigy of Pride"; I've talked in depth with Deknijff and he really doesn't have an answer, the wikia barely explains it (akin to, "it's apparently part of the Grand Order, but not really") and yeah, I just recently rewatched everything with my girlfriend, with as much knowledge as I can currently get and paid the utmost attention and.... I still don't get it. No matter how hard I try.
Why did the Silver (Tyrant II) did Fumina's memories, when it had been absorbing emotions for its artificial Aggregate Will for centuries to resonate with the Snake's Aggregate Will to house him while his body is still within the Abyss? That's literally what the Silver was created for, and why it appeared to Margery. So why does a fake schoolgirl's memories allow it to then move? Was it to allow her to synchronize and control it?
Why was the Silver/Tyrant II being used as its core when it was needed as the Snake's replacement body? (Tyrant I is inside the Midnight Lost Child and is essentially an exact copy)
Ugh, see, I can't even properly explain it. I even bought he Japanese anime GUIDEBOOKS, which of course, I can't read. But just the fact there are guidebooks that explicitly state what is happening, how it's different from the light novels, there HAS to be an answer.
... My point is, being an English fan of Shana FUCKING SUCKS. And I want someone to talk to to help. :'(
I fell in love with this series for its details, so needless to say, that part in particular literally drives me batshit insane the more I think about it. I can't make sense of it and I hate that fact.
Always great to see more Shana fans in English!
