In case you didnt know, the only difference is mecha. Look out for the baseball special in Champloo, genius! Also the GIGA arrow in samurai 7 is one to look out for too. Classic.

Both involve Samurai's that have amazing power rising against evil and claiming justice.

Similar art styles (both animes produced by Gonzo), both stories are based off a historic work (Gankutsuo-Count of Monte Cristo, Samurai 7-Kurosawa's film the Seven Samurai, IMDB #10 ranked movie of all time.)

Both anime have to deal with humans surviving against giant machines that are oppressing/trying to kill them. While Gurren Lagann is more comical, they are both pretty serious at the end.

These two series take the source material - one being the Shinsingumi and the other being the historical black and white film Samurai Seven - and add an AU plot twist to the plotlines, giving viewers something fresh and new, with one going the route of vampires and the other gong the route of steam punk. Both series also build the dynamics between the characters as the plots unfold.

The gather of a certain number of fighters to fight one powerful enemy. hmmm these two sound alike.

Both are extremely artistic as well as based on fantastic stories. And both stories focus on warriors with ideals bigger than the sword. But most importantly if you liked watching well animated, highly skilled fighting, with a good story, you'll love this show.

The music is very similar

Code geass, the action is big machines going at it. Samurai 7 has big machines getting cut down by mere men... the action is very similar in the sense that it's big fighting robots. but the stories in both are worlds apart.

The plots of both Samurai 7 and Sakura Taisen contain a creative mix of history and steam punk. Both contain groups of warriors fighting for the common people against evil. The characters of both are interesting and well developed, giving both stories true depth. And top it off with a brilliant blend of angst and humor throughout both plots, and you have two animes that are definitely worth watching!

- Both feature samurai and mechas - Both shows are not afraid of killing likable characters - Both feature a nostalgic OST The story felt also very similar, but Samurai 7 was able to deliver since it had 26 episodes to work with.

-A group of highly characterized misfits gets in over their head fighting a war they didn't expect to be involved in -Heavily rooted in classic themes of honor and tradition, and whether they should be ignored at times -Small party has to use ingenuity and guile to outwit an opponent that outmans and outguns them

Travelling Samurai.. Action packed,romance.. comedy all you want..

The action is same in the sense that there's guys in uniform wielding blades and cutting stuff or people down. The main story is somewhat similar in the sense that one of the main characters grow up into a world they thought they knew but experience a different one-the first bleach arc and samurai 7's story are similar with respect to that view-

even though its called "samurai 7" , both stories hold the story of people in war and they use robots to fight for the war

Each take mech into a historical era, one that of the samurai, and one that of the European old ages. They have strong storylines, not to mention nice action. The mechs are well designed and the characters, for the given length are well developed.

Has similar war and rebellion stories with characters trying help others. They both also have a fantasy aspect to them that doesn't really reveal itself completely till the last arc in both shows.

animation and feel are pretty similiar

Both anime deal with Samurai in historical setting and they have simular color schemes, though the line style in both are different. There is also a dark mood to both of them.

Both a very well made animations with a large amount of time spent on details for action scenes

I finished Samurai 7 and I was seriously upset. It kind of reminded me of Basilisk. I mean I don't want to spoil it for anyone else but the end was so...upsetting. Some of my favorite characters died even though I already suspected they would but come on. I had bought the Samurai 7 box set for my brother (christmas gift). I ended up taking them home to watch them myself (am I a loving sister taking my bros gift before he had a chance to watch them? I know you don't have to say it). Once I finished them he watched them and his  read more
