"Subjecting 12-year-old kids to fighting monsters and putting them in many very uncomfortable & gory situations", the animation. Alien 9 feels much like a spiritual ancestor of Made in Abyss, and a facade of cuteness supported by the (somewhat atypical) character designs only strenghtens this impression.

An unsuspecting student meets the infamous ghost who's been haunting their school for the past few decades - and this meeting is just the beginning... The basic premise is the same, just genderswapped. Dusk Maiden also is a lot more romance-focused, rather than comedic. In both series, however, you'll find a bold visual style and aesthetic.

Two girls, the blonde-haired short-tempered one, and the blue-haired, more collected one, go on various - often random - adventures, swear like sailors, do weird things, and absolutely do not concern themselves with anyone's opinion. Highly divisive shows featuring unusual art styles and interesting creative choices; rather than being the standard anime comedy fare, they are experimental series that will not work for everyone.

A slice of life comedy about high school girls from a female POV, not shying away from any topic, and somewhat more realistic than a typical CGDCT show.

Although the stories and themes of these shows are largely different, in both, behind the story is the conflict between a society of humans, and a society of magical animals - while they can transform to look like humans, ultimately humanity is not their nature. In addition, fans of creative & unusual visuals should be pleased.
