I didn't expect the second season of Chuunibyou to be as good as the first. That's the case with a lot of anime most of the time. Still, despite this assumption beforehand, I was left disappointed after finishing the second season. It's not bad. It's good, but not even close to the first season.
The main problem with the second season of Chuunibyou is the story. It's not nearly as entertaining as the first season. The humor, while sometimes funny, misses the mark a lot. And the drama that unfolds in the series feels forced due to the inclusion of a new character, Satone Shichimiya. I
...
kept wondering why her character was part of this season. The only reason she existed was for drama, and not very good drama at that. Because of this, I was incredibly bored everytime she showed up on screen.
There is some character development when it comes to Rikka and Yuuta. They definitely grow from the first season. But when I say grow, I mean that in the slightest way. Anyone coming into the second season of Chuunibyou and wishing for a fulfilling ending will be disappointed. Is the ending satisfying? I guess, but it could've been so much better.
While I enjoyed the second season of Chuunibyou, I don't really think there's any reason to go out and watch it. Honestly, if you just watch the first season and never watch this one, you will probably be more satisfied than putting time into this. Would only recommend to die hard KyoAni fans. Everyone else can skip this one.

Funny - Cute - Plotless
If these words are ones that don't leave any negative thoughts in your head, you'll probably enjoy K-On! quite a bit. It's a harmless show that has no real themes, morals, or plot of any kind. It's just a show that is all about having fun. Plain and simple.
Despite what you may think beforehand, the truth of the matter is that there is no plot. Yes, certain episodes have some small roadblock for certain characters, but really, there's mainly nothing going on plot-wise in this anime. I don't necessarily have a problem with that. Lucky Star has no plot, and yet,
...
it is one of my favorite anime of all time. It works due to the humor and characters. When it comes to K-On!, the humor is pretty good for the most part. It definitely had me laughing at certain parts that were silly and stupid, but in a cute way. None of the humor deals with fanservice or adult jokes of any kind. It's very safe. Some people may not like that, but I greatly enjoyed every minute. One thing to keep in mind is that this isn't an anime where we get band songs every episode. There's probably three times where we see the characters play together. Just something to keep in mind.
It's no surprise to anyone that the animation and character designs are beautifully crafted. It's a show that looks as amazing as one would assume from KyoAni.
Music here is definitely above average. I wouldn't cal it groundbreaking or anything. The songs played by the characters in the anime are all rock. They're well composed and everything, but not very memorable. Same with the OP and ED. Good, but slowly drifts away from the mind after watching an episode.
The characters in K-On! are quite enjoyable too. They all have the traits you would assume from this type of anime. None really grow or transform that much throughout the series. Yui provides most of the comedy in the series. She's great. Her humor always hits a good note (no pun intended). One of my favorite jokes in the series deals with her and a guitar. I won't spoil it for you, but you'll know it when it happens. It's comedy gold.
Did I enjoy K-On!? Yeah, but it never went over the hill for me. Sure, the humor works, but it isn't as strong as other slice of life anime. The characters were all enjoyable to watch, especially Yui. There weren't any characters I disliked or found annoying. With that said, they weren't anything to write home about ether. At the end of the day, this is a very good anime that will entertain you while watching it. With that said, it's not life-changing. I wouldn't recommend going out of your way to see it, but if you have nothing better to watch, it's a fun way to waste time and have some great laughs. Don't expect anything deep though.

I honestly didn't think I was going to like Love Live! School Idol Project. I first heard about it at Anime Expo last year. When I learned of the story, I thought it seemed incredibly stupid and a waste of time. But man.... this is one of the best anime series I've come across in awhile.
The story here is not anything to write home about. In fact, on the surface, it's kind of stupid. It's about a group of girls who form an idol group to raise awareness of their school. If they don't succeed, the school shuts down. The fact of the matter
...
is that the story is only there to provide a highway for the more important themes of the show to ride on.
Breathtakingly beautiful is how I would describe the animation here. Every single frame bursts with colors and creates a satisfying world for the characters to interact in. And these characters are animated quite well too, especially their eyes. The studio behind Love Live! School Idol Project is Sunrise. I'm not too familiar with them, but what they've done here is truly remarkable when the animation department. I would argue it's just as good, if not better, than what KyoAni puts out.
One thing that I think is important to note is that this is not an anime where every episode contains a group of girls singing. There are about three songs in the anime, not including the OP and ED. These songs are quite nice. They're very reminiscent of AKB48. Some are almost identical to certain AKB48 songs. Not that I have a problem with that, but it's worthy to note. If you like AKB48, you'll like the music here. Same can be said about the OP and ED.
I could write forever about the characters, but in particular I wanted to go into detail about Honoka Kousaka. She's the girl who starts the whole thing about wanting to save the school by forming an idol group. Her character is, pretty much, the leader of the rest of the girls. She is determined throughout the entire series to bring everyone together. She can be funny, but also emotional as well. Honoka is a very heartwarming character. She clearly cares about everyone. Everyone else has their ups and downs in the series. They grow and flourish like the best characters in anime.
As far as enjoyment, I had an amazing time with Love Live! School Idol Project. While the series is quite funny and upbeat, it also has a surprising amount of drama. In fact, I would argue that about half of Love Live! School Idol Project is dramatic, while the other half is filled with humor. I always think it's hard to create anything with both of these elements because one usually has more impact than the other. But not here. The show is able to balance the fun and more serious parts of the story as it goes along. I had moments when I laughed and others when I was teary eyed. I applaud Sunrise for being able to juggle both genres so well.
Love Live! School Idol Project is one of the most beautiful stories I've watched in quite sometime. While the plot is not necessarily strong, the themes that the anime conveys are what truly shines.
It's about following your dreams and getting over obstacles - no matter how hard they may be.
It's about friendship and staying true to your friends through the bad and the good.
Most of all, it's about life, and the ups and downs that come with it.

Tamako Market is one of the worst things KyoAni has ever created. I'm sorry. There's no way around it. I wanted to love Tamako Market. I desperately tried my best to enjoy every episode, yet, I absolutely couldn't. Everything was just way too mediocre for me. I'm a huge KyoAni fan, but I gotta call it like I see it.
Let's start with the few good things that Tamako Market has to offer. KyoAni has pretty much never failed when it comes to animation. The winning streak continues here. Everything is full of color and life. Character designs, while simple, fit the show and what it
...
has to offer.
Music, as per usual, is great. I love the OP soundtrack. Definitely can listen to that for days upon days. It joins the ranks of other OP's that I don't skip after the second episode. The ED is nice. Nothing too special. When it comes to the soundtrack in every episode - it works. Literally have nothing bad to say about the soundtrack at all.
Tamako Market suffers greatly in the story department - more so than any other KyoAni I've ever seen. Here's the thing. There's pretty much no story to speak of in Tamako Market. I mean, there's a "story", but it's barely there. It's one of those things that's brought up at the beginning of the first episode and then kinda slumbers for awhile. Then, before you know it, the story awakens near the end of the series. But by that point in time, it was too late and I had already suffered enough.
Don't me wrong... I don't need a story when it comes to slice of life anime. In fact, some of my favorite slice of life anime have no story at all. Lucky Star, A-Channel, YuruYuri - all of these contain little to no story, but I love them anyway. The reason they work is because of the humor and characters. Sadly, the humor hear is pretty poor. Many of the jokes fall flat and don't have a lot of weight to them. Timing is also off when it comes to certain gags. The majority of the humor used in Tamako Market is something I like to call "cute humor". It's basically characters doing cute things, like children, in order to make the audience laugh. Some of the humor worked for me, but I wasn't laughing for the majority of the series.
When it comes to characters, there's not really a whole lot to talk about. Tamako, the main character, is alright. She's a cute girl who who does cute things. She's nice. And.... well.... that's about it. I actually liked Tamako quite a bit, but she felt out of place. Her character would be better suited in the world of Aria. Tamako isn't necessarily a strong character, but it's hard not to like her. She's an angel - harmless. Tamako also has some friends, but they aren't memorable at all. I honestly can't say much about them. They're in every episode and they do stuff. That's their job - to do stuff. Tamako has a little sister as well named Anko. And guess what Anko does? She does stuff. Some cute, and some no so cute. She's just kinda there.
There's a character in Tamako Market who shows up every now and then that works at a flower shop, named Kaoru Hanase. He appears to be a trans. I don't think I've ever seen an anime that represented the trans community so fairly. I greatly appreciated the fact that he wasn't used as a character to be made fun of or seen as a joke. He was represented equal to everyone else. I'm not trans, nor do I know anyone who is, but I thought that was rather sweet. KyoAni could've easily gone the other route and used his character as a tool for jokes. Definitely respect KyoAni for not going that route, although I woudn't have been too offended if they did.
And now.... the bird.....
This guy really deserves his own paragraph because, in a way, he is the virus that made me suffer as much as I did while watching Tamako Market. He has a name - Dera Mochiyucky, but I'm going to be calling him "bird" for this review. Why? Because he deserves no respect for the torture his character put me through. This piece of work was annoying from start to finish. Before watching Tamako Market, I assumed that the bird was only in a few episodes. I also had no idea he could talk. But boy.... I was wrong. I hated everything about him. His character design, his voice, his humor - it infuriated me to no end. At the end of every episode, he would say a few lines that were supposed to be meaningful, but they never meant a thing to me because it was HIM saying those lines. Would've been better and more appropriate for Tamako to say such things. In my opinion, one of the worst characters in the history of anime. Dreadful. Awful. Stupid. Just the worst of the worst. Literally had no choice but to lower my rating by one full point due to his presence, which rarely ever happens when I watch anime.
Tamako Market is one of the weaker efforts from KyoAni. The only reason I rated it a 6/10 is because of the beautiful animation, the score, and Tamako. If this were made by any other studio, with a low budget, it would probably get a 4/10 or 5/10. If you are a die hard fan of KyoAni, then I guess I would say to give this series a go. It's harmless. It won't leave you angry the entire day or anything. There are no villains either. It just kinda felt like a waste of time for me.

There's really only one way to describe Battle Angel Alita - EPIC. This is one of the greatest sci-fi / action adventure stories I've ever read. Love, horror, happiness, sadness, etc... - this is what Battle Angel Alita has to offer and thensome.
Although I could be wrong, I feel like a lot of Battle Angel Alita was inspired by Hollywood movies of the 80's. In particular, the manga feels like a mix of Blade Runner and Mad Max. Certain areas have a wasteland type of feel, while others are more futuristic and full of sci-fi elements. There's a ton of action in Battle Angel
...
Alita. Lots of blood and gore for those who are into that type of stuff. Of course, when there's also slower chapters that spend time developing characters. I loved that the manga was able to mix both of these and create such a humanistic story. In particular, one scene near the end was quite touching and got me teary eyed. It just feels good to know that Battle Angel Alita is not just an action manga. It has heart.
The only problem I had with the story is that a small part of the manga gets a bit slow. It had to do with Alita "finding herself". While important to the rest of the story, I would've told it in a different fashion than what was presented in the manga.
The artwork here is fantastic. When battles are going on, you really feel every jump, kick, punch, and cut. It's brutal, but fun at the same time. During the slower moments, the artwork is able to capture the beauty of the world that Battle Angel Alita takes place in. It's one of those things where the world is ugly, but beautiful at the same time (if you know what I mean). Characters are drawn quite well, although Alita has the best artwork of any character. She feels real. Her expressions, whether happy, sad, or angry, create a character that is fully fleshed out (animation-wise).
Speaking of characters, they're all great here. The shining star in Battle Angel Alita is the main character, Alita. To say that Alita is a strong female character who has the strength and intelligence of a goddess would be an understatement, but perhaps that's the only way to describe her. Whenever she is seen preparing for battle, it is clear that Alita will do whatever it takes to succeed. Of course, she also has a softer side. Her relationship with Daisuke Ido, the person who found her in the first place, is often explored. Daisuke Ido has feelings for Alita, but has trouble telling her about him when they first meet. He's not a bad guy, yet, I wouldn't classify him as necessarily good ether. I would argue that he has two sides to his character. Each one is just as important as the other. It's clear that Daisuke and Alita are close to one another and feel deeply about how each one chooses to live. Some of the most touching moments in Battle Angel Alita are between them.
There are other characters that play a big role in the story as well, but most of them deal with certain plot points that I can't go into. One thing that kinda annoyed me was that certain characters kept switching from bad to good and vice versa. This happened constantly, which made me assume that every character met along Alita's journey was going to end up opposite of where they started. Not too big of a deal, yet, I thought it was worth cautioning readers beforehand.
Overall, I enjoyed Battle Angel Alita more than I thought I was going to. Beforehand, I assumed this was going to be some dumb action manga with not much else going on, but what I got was a touching story that dealt with love, friendship, and what it means to be human. While it has a few minor flaws here and there, the pros far outweigh the cons. This is an epic that deserves to be read by anyone interested in sci fi, action, adventure, or romance.

I honestly wanted to enjoy the second season of Shokugeki no Souma much more than I did. Don't get me wrong.... it's good, but not as amazing as the first season. I'm a bit disappointed, but not all that surprised.
I don't have much to say about the animation here. If you enjoyed the quality of the animation in the first season, you get the same thing here. I literally couldn't tell if there were any improvements, despite the fact that it's a new season.
Music for Shokugeki no Souma: Ni no Sara is pretty good. The OP and ED are nice. I wouldn't say they're quite
...
as good as the first season though. The score for the rest of the show hasn't really changed. It's just as good as the first season.
One of the problems I had with this season was the story. As everyone already knows, the first season ended in a cliffhanger, which I was not too happy with. Shokugeki no Souma: Ni no Sara continues exactly where the first season left off. At first, I was excited, but I after a few episodes in, I realized what was going on and became utterly disinterested in the series. There's little to no real story in Shokugeki no Souma: Ni no Sara. No, instead it's pretty much one food battle after another. That's the majority of this season. It got tiring and boring after awhile. I mean, the jokes are still funny and everything, but I was hoping for some more character development and a story that dealt with self-discovery. That's not what this is. Not only that, but the ending was pretty disappointing as well.
Unfortunately, because the story suffered, so did the characters. They still have the same personalities as the first season, and they do grow, but not by much. As I said before, it's literally just one battle after another. With the first season, I felt like there was a lot of downtime between battles where we got to learn more about the characters and their past. Sure, that happens here, but not much.
So overall I was pretty disappointed with Shokugeki no Souma: Ni no Sara. It still has the humor and charm of the first season, yet, I definitely felt it was missing a lot of what made that first season so good. Would recommend as a time waster - not much else.

Casshern Sins is yet another anime that I would place in the genre of philosophical. What do I mean by that? Well, it's a show that is incredibly slow. It's full of questions, some answers, and metaphors that deal with what it means to be human.
The story here isn't all too unique, but it doesn't have to be. We pretty spend the entire series following Casshern on his quest to find out about his past. During his journey, he meet several characters. Some of them are friendly and others are not too nice. There are a few fight scenes here and there, yet, not
...
enough to warrant calling this an action anime. I would argue that Casshern Sins is almost as slow as Texhnolyze. Not quite as slow, but very close. Most of Casshern Sins is a lot of talking. Some may find this quite boring, but I was always fascinated by the characters Casshern met and what they had to say.
The world of Casshern Sins is dark. Because of this, there aren't a lot of bright colors. The world is as gloomy as the themes of the series. Most of the series takes place on barren landscapes - similar to what you might think of when you watch Dragonball Z, but with a higher budget. It's beautiful to look at. I wouldn't go as far as to say that it's gothic. I'd probably be more on board with post apocalyptic. Characters have a fairy-tale look to them. Some of them have big anime eyes and others seem more robotic due to the current events in the show.
The OP and ED are nothing to write home about. They aren't bad or good. I barely remember them and I've seen the series, in full, two times. With that said, the soundtrack used in each episode is really good. Sadder pieces are played for parts that get dark. Action pieces are used for battles and work well.
Casshern is a very flawed character. The more he learns about his past, the more it haunts him as we get closer and closer to the finale. He's someone who seems to want friends, but never goes out of his way to get such things from the various people he meets. At times, Casshern can be determined and egotistical, but he can also be thoughtful and warm. I wish I could talk about a number of other characters, but I feel that would enter spoiler territory, so I won't. All I'll say is this - everyone that Casshern meets is unique and interesting in their own way. There wasn't one character who I thought was a waste, despite how many appear in the series.
This is very slow series. If you can handle a show that is full of philosophy, and has very few action scenes, you'll probably get something out of Casshern Sins. If not, it'd probably be best to skip the entire series. After the first episode, you'll know if Casshern Sins is right for you. It's definitely not for everyone, but those who enjoy it will be fulfilled with a wealth of interesting questions about life, death, and the human condition.

So this is the first manga, or rather manhwa, that I've completed from start to finish. And I have to say, what a way to start my journey into such an art form. Can't See Can't Hear But Love is one of the greatest pieces of literature that I've ever read.
The story is quite simple. It is about a deaf woman, a blind guy, and their life together. The manhwa explores both of their current dilemmas, as well as their future and past as well. Certain events come up that create difficult choices for each character. While there are some comedic moments throughout the
...
manhwa, this is mainly a drama. In my opinion, Can't See Can't Hear But Love contains some of the most touching scenes I've seen in a piece of art since Clannad: After Story. And yeah, that's high praise. There were more than a few scenes that were absolutely heartbreaking to read. One of the reasons I never bothered reading or finishing any type of manga is because I never thought that something like that would get an emotional response from me. Obviously, I've received such from other pieces of art, such as anime, books, and movies, but I just didn't think a comic book, manga, or manhwa, could complete with those art forms. But man, I was wrong. I cried so many times reading certain parts of this manhwa that I couldn't possibly say the exact number. It's absolutely beautiful.
Because this is a manhwa, every piece of artwork is in color. I thought this was quite nice, although not necessary. The images became more more alive due to the colorful palette. There were times were color was used in a very intelligent as, like showing a flashback or hinting at a dark moment. I was quite impressed by this and feel that the story was heightened due to such a add-on.
Can't See Can't Hear But Love is rich with some of the most heartwarming characters ever. Geun Soo, the blind guy, is a very flawed character. He has issues with family, lies sometimes, and can be difficult to deal with in certain circumstances. But this is more than okay because it shows that he is human. Geun Soo isn't perfect. He's a good human being who doesn't fully understand himself, but wants what's best for everyone around him. Sure, because he is blind, he struggles more than most people everyday. But he also struggles with his emotions. The manhwa explores these difficulties in great length throughout the manhwa.
So Ri, the deaf girl, is one of the strongest female characters I've ever encountered. I couldn't help but feel how much she cared for Geun Soo during the story. So Ri sacrifices a lot in order to help Geun Soo during certain events that come up. She fights because of her will to live, be happy, and make sure that Geun Soo enjoys his life as much as possible. She is often treated poorly, not just because of her vision, but due to her being a woman as well. Despite the hardships she faces, So Ri never gives up.
Supporting characters in Can't See Can't Hear But Love also play a vital role when it comes to the main characters and their wants and desires. These supporting characters are all fleshed out nicely. You learn about every single one of their upbringings and why they are the way they are. It's clear that every single person in Can't See Can't Hear But Love have been through a lot, which is why they aren't perfect and can sometimes be disgusting in the way they act towards others.
Overall, I can't recommend Can't See Can't Hear But Love enough. This is one of the most touching stories I've ever read and gives a real life view of the world from the perspective of two people who are unable to live normal lives due to their disabilities. Even if you hate reading, don't care for manga, or feel that a dramatic story like this one is a waste of time, I would implore you so please read it. You won't regret it.
This is not just a masterpiece in storytelling. No... it is also one of the most important pieces of art that will be remembered for years to come. Can't See Can't Hear But Love is a must read and receives my highest recommendation.

Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! is yet another masterpiece from KyoAni. Probably not a surprise to those who have been fans of the studio for all these years. Still, it's always great to see KyoAni shine when they make the best of the best (most of the time).
The tale here is quite beautiful. It follows Yuuta and Rikka. Yuuta is a boy that is trying to leave his past of chuunibyou (childish delusional behavior) behind, while Rikka is in the middle of it. As the series goes along, each characters past is explored in different ways. Of course, these memories pave the way for the
...
future of the series as well. It's quite cute and harmless, like most of KyoAni's past work. There is a nice blend of romance, comedy, and drama in the series, which makes it all that more delightful.
KyoAni pretty much always hits a home run in the art department. Here, it is no different. Every scene is wonderful to look at, especially during the "fight" scenes. Whenever the show transports characters to the world that they see themselves in, for battles, it is mind blowing. Definitely some of the best animation I've seen in quite sometime. Again, this isn't a surprise. It's KyoAni. They always deliver.
The soundtrack for Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! is both hyper (at times) and soft. Every piece fits the scene that they are played over. The OP is wonderful too. It's energetic and feels like you're entering a land of adventure and fun. ED is okay. Nothing too special.
The main characters are fantastic. Yuuta is quite an interesting character. Through the series, he grows tremendously. While he does learn a lot about Rikka and her past, he also gains knowledge about himself as well. It's great seeing how much his character evolves in the series. As said before, Rikka evolves just as much as Yuuta, if not more. Her past, wants, and desires are drizzled through each episode. By the end, her character is fleshed out in a way that is truly satisfying.
Some other characters include Sanae and Shinka, who are part of the club that Yuuta and Rikka are in. They provide some great laughs. At the same time, some of the standout moments in the anime revolve around their interactions with Yuuta and Rikka. To be honest, now that I think of it, there were never any characters that I didn't enjoy seeing on screen. Everyone provided comedy gold and also added to the, already touching, story of Rikka.
Overall, this is an amazing anime. I know I used this word before, but I have to say it again. The word to define this show is cute. Everything about it is cute. The humor, the drama, the characters, the setting, and even the darker moments are cute. But I don't mean that in a bad way. This is a show that deals with growing up and what it means to become older as the years go by. It's about what you choose to leave behind and what you choose to stay with you as time ticks away. It's about friendship, family, love, loss, life, and being kind to others. This is the type of show I love watching. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

No Game No Life is what you get when you mix a handful of creative writers with masterful animators. It's one heck of a project, and it works.
The animation is done by Madhouse, so it's no surprise that the series looks absolutely stunning. Colors are vibrant and pop out. The characters feel fresh and alive, which is quite the compliment since certain shows have a hard time with character designs working naturally. The world is so well drawn out that I felt a unique type of immersion while following the characters on their journey.
Music here is top notch. The soundtrack for both action scenes and
...
more dramatic moments work well together and compliment one another. At first, I wasn't too impressed by the OP. I'm a big fan of Konomi Suzuki, yet, the song didn't really do much for me. With that said, the more I listened to it, the more I appreciated the song. I still don't think it's great, but I have more of a liking to it now than I did before. On the other hand, the ED is amazing! It might be my favorite ED of all time, which is saying something. I barely ever love most ED's in anime, but this one was perfect.
Our two main characters, Sora and Shiro, happen to also be brother and sister. Sora is someone that is quite determined when it comes to getting what he wants. He's forceful, but thinks things through beforehand to make sure that any decision he makes is correct. Shiro is much more quiet than her brother. The anime doesn't necessarily say it out loud, but she seems to think thing through much more carefully than her brother. Perhaps that's just how I viewed her. I never once thought Shiro's brother was more intelligent, despite their age difference. Both are enjoyable to watch and create funny gags with their characters. Sora usually is in charge of the fanservice jokes, while Shiro is more about commenting, or adding, onto the humor being performed.
There's not much else to say about No Game No Life. It's one of the most entertaining pieces of art in the last few years. It's funny, dramatic, and creative with every episode. It's a shame that the series is only 12 episodes long. Hopefully there will be another season!
