This manhwa came to my attention due to its interesting premise and beautiful artwork. I was hoping to find a story of self discovery and healing not dissimilar to something like Karina's last days for examples. Sadly this comic sticks with the idea for a whole of 6 or so chapters before the main 'conflict' if you will, is resolved. In the 11 chapters I have read, which is admittedly not a lot, I could tell there was a major lack of direction and understanding of what makes a story like this interesting and worth reading. You can tell that the intention was to make
...
the characters around our MC likeable and nice but there is no context for their action so it all ends up feeling quite random and meaningless. A similar thing can be said for the MC themselves. in the 11 chapters I have read the story introduces 2 sets of characters without developing anything in a meaningful way, there is no real continuity in the world building and it just all feels very disjointed. I am disappointed with the low quality and would not recommend others try this in the sea of similar style historical fantasy manhwa.

This manga is very fun and I honestly think anyone should atleast try reading a few chapters to see if they like it. It might just be my picks but I feel like there has been an increase in short weekly manga about a daily commute with an unrequited theme to it, whether it's love, admiration or other uncertainties. This manga puts a bit of a twist on this by having the story be primarily told via three onlookers that are rooting for the boy and girl to get together. It has a bit of a love is war aspect to it except it is
...
all happenstance and the onlookers are just narrating it very passionately. All the characters here are very likeable, the art is great and actually pretty unique in its style and the concept is fun as well. Definitely hope this keeps it up and is allowed to continue. The only thing that I can imagine happening is that the spark is lost due to it continuing for too long and having to expand in some way. For what it is currently though I 100% recommend it, strong 7/10.

Initially when I started reading this a year or so ago I did not think much of it. While I liked how it flipped the whimpy guy trope on its head a bit I was not a fan of the wish fulfillment aspect that showed itself in how Runa treated Ryuuto. However having now read the first 6 volumes I think it has really developed into something that is somewhat unique. The main draw of this manga is just how frank they are in how they portray young relationships, particularly the female side. Especially in the later chapters they really start going into the aspects
...
that make young love work and how superficial some parts of it can be. However there is no judgement given, it just is like that, in this story atleast. Sure there are definitely still aspects that are idyllic, but for what it is it is a pretty fresh take. This permissive characterisation of the people in this story helps them feel more like human beings instead of characters in a story. That being said I am not going to argue that this is done without flaws. It is generally pretty messy in most of the other aspects. Most of the things in this manga are decidedly bland and somewhat inconsistent. I also think there is some tonal whiplash between the tropes that are used and the confrontation with the aforementioned style of story telling. It feels more like a PSA at times for teens in Japan reading this than a story with a genuine message to share, that is to say that it can be too in the nose.
Overall I think this manga is fairly interesting and above average but ultimately fails to be something truly special, for now.

In Japanese pop culture romance stories the trope of a famous love interest seems to be very popular. Even if you go back to early visual novels you will often see an actress/idol or some other form of celebrity being one of the potential options. Whether this is just to add some flavour to the character or if it is a way to make the main character feel like they are important in some way I don't know, but what I can tell you is that recently I have been seeing it pop up more often in romance manga. This series being no exception. We
...
follow Ichiji Takuya, a hard working highschool boy, and Saegusa Shion, a former idol who is in the same class as Takuya. The story focuses on how their relationship develops, first as friends and later (likely) as a couple. The manga tries to differentiate itself from its peers by using certain tropes and character quirks but this sadly falls pretty flat due to the lacking execution. The characterisation of Shion is a bit hit or miss. Her awkward quirks are inconsistent and over the top in a way that is not endearing but rather a bit jarring. There is not a baseline for these moments to build on, when she is being quirky that is just her for the reader, we don't get to see what it is supposed to be a contrast to, or atleast not in a way that is convincing. The childhood friend character and the other girl in the friend group are given even less room to develop. There is no romantic tension, no stakes, no atmosphere and no real reason to get invested in the characters. I also think that the art is a bit lackluster. The character designs are simplistic and tend to be a bit inconsistent. The backdrops are also uninteresting and simplistic. Basically, this manga simply lacks an identity and is fuly replaceable by any other story with a similar concept that has a bit more care and thought put into it. Even though this manga is not really bad in anyway, it is consistently below average in the most forgettable way you could imagine.

I started reading this right when the first episode of the anime aired because I generally tend to prefer manga over anime and thought the concept was pretty interesting, Having now watched the anime, or atleast the episodes that have aired (which have gone beyond the most recent manga chapter) I can now confirm what I felt was missing from the manga. You can tell while reading this manga that the story itself is actually pretty well put together, the side characters and even our loner mc have a ton of personality. The tone is light hearted and bubbly and the settings in which the
...
characters get together feel a lot more auhthentic than what you normally see in highschool stories like this. The major reason for this is that this story actually considers the relationships its characters have outside of the main cast. It feels more like a living world and less like a setting for the drama of the main characters to commence. That being said the manga iteration of this story is missing a part of this charm. The art is fantastic but the subtle character moments that really makes the anime so endearing are lost in the transition from light novel to manga. They make the main character too much of an outcast in the manga, the chemistry between him and Yana isn't as fun, the other characters in the main cast also don't have the same chemistry as they do in the show, the weirdness of the president is turned up to eleven, you loose the subtleties and are left with the extreme character traits which does this type of story absolutely no favours. Granted I do not know how this is in the light novel, but seeing how the anime does it I am inclined to believe that the manga is the outlier.
Overall I would say that this manga is above average on its own, but inferior to the anime adaptation and likely also inferior to the light novel it was adapted from. Solid concept with a unique vibe though. Try it and form your own opinion.

Gentle and elegant is how I would describe this manga series. The story details how our main character, Aleksander - often referred to by the author as him- meets a blind girl, Emma -referred to as her- and how they slowly develop their relationship with each other. The manga is set up kinda like a gag manga in terms of chapter style and length. Each chapter is mostly just a short interaction between the two, these interactions are largely unrelated though there is a linear progression of time. The way the relationship between him and her develops is sweet and much more reminiscent of a
...
western romance movie than a romance manga. The chemistry between the two is great and both are endlessly charming, as is the world around them. The art is gorgeous, it is like a mix of older European comics, fashion design and manga style.
I don't have a ton to say about this other than that it is fantastic and deserves your attention.

TL;DR: Very good and very very underrated, short enough to read in an hour or less, read it and form your own opinion!
There is something about Satoshi Mzukami's work that just grabs me like no other manga can. This one being no different. Despite being a mere 1 volume long it is a fully realised story full of character and personality right from the first panels. It is a beautifully touching story about hard work and talent and the meaning of being special. The idea that being different from others makes you special and that loosing this can be debilitating depending on the mindset you
...
hold. The characters are super likeable and surprisingly human, Mizukami is really the best I have ever seen at balancing the feeling of adventure and escapism with realism. Unlike with most shounen series you read his works never have a problem with letting go, and I think this is a quality that is super important for allowing your story to be more than just a cool action shounen. The short length does not matter one bit, as mentioned earlier it is fully realised and the characters see a surprising amount of development. The way the main character interacts with his family and how this changes his perspective is particularly well done.
Overall this is really a very pleasant read that is full of quality writing, great characters, and a ton of personality. I would recommend anyone to read this.

This review was originally written for the manga but since I drag the light novel into it aswell I think it will be relevant.
TL;DR: It's decent. Read it if you like otome game scenarios with a male mc and a twist.
This story is your usual otome game setting, very similar to most villainess manga/manwha, the twist being that the main character here is a random male character generally unrelated to the original story. This has also been done before but not as often and therefore still feels fairly fresh in concept. It starts pretty early on in the life of the mc and
...
it shows him preparing for the future by securing good equipment, skills and money. The characters are nothing special, pretty much just exactly the archetypes they are set up to be, there are some interesting developments later on with both the mc and Amy (the actual mc of the otome game), but for the most part the characters are pretty two dimensional.
I would say that there are two major parts to the novel. The first 50 chapters or so are your average otome game villainess twist story, where it culminates in the condemnation of the villainess and the mc steps up to save her. The second part is extremely politics focused. Otome game stories aren't exactly strangers to politics, so it's not exactly outside of expectation, but it's honestly quite a chore to sit through. I do not believe that the characters were developed enough for me to truly care about many of the major developments. A few plot points are basically just thrown aside and the main character has some things happen to him that only affect him in that moment and are completely disregarded after. I think that this tonal shift falling flat is indicative of the type of story this is. It's like how most isekai manga only thrive on concept alone and that's also why you see the same first 5 chapters for basically all of the mediocre ones. It's just a gotcha moment leading up to and slightly after the point that the mc is reincarnated, gets overpowered and maybe even betrayed for the edgy ones, joins the guild or goes to school, shows of for a bit and suddenly all story direction is lost. In this case that moment would be the condemnation. And since it's built around this moment the rest feels empty and just added on the keep the story going. I must give credit where credit is due and say that the second half does not feel directionless. But the whole world, power system and the characters are just so poorly developed that it does not matter.
Overall I think that the first half is surprisingly above average, sadly the second part is not great. I do see some potential for the manga to fix some of my issues with the second part of the novel, however I honestly doubt it will even get that far, and if it does it will most likely not be translated. So all in all, read it if you like this type of story, but other than that I would pick something else.

I like villainess stories. I think that the premise inherently allows for a deeper exploration of characters than most shounen/seinen stories do. That being said this villainess manga, which are not nearly as common as villainess manhwa mind you, trades in this unique aspect of the premise in favour of subversion. Here the original villainess comes back to her body after the saint like transmigrator is betrayed. From here on the villainess wants to do right by the transmigrator and take revenge. This manga aims to combine the villainess setting with the ever popular kingdom building isekai subgenre. And while it is moderately successful at
...
doing this I do think that some of the aspects of the story are a bit lacking.
The main character, aka the original villainess called Remilia, is a pretty likeable protagonist exactly because she isn't overly generous or kind. She does good things mostly because she wants to set the stage for, and keep up the reputation of the transmigrator, Emi. While she appears like the typical dense saint like character to others, she herself is very much aware of what is going on and is pulling the strings behind the scenes. Sadly our antagonist, the original saintess Pina, doesn't have nearly as much of an interesting dynamic. She is cartoonishly evil in an irredeemably annoying way. It is clear that she is written like this so that the reader dislikes her and wants to root for the protagonist, but the end result is just that her character lacks depth. Because of the nature of her character Pina's goons, aka the original love interests, don't get any chances to shine either. This lack of depth for the antagonists has really sucked out most of the joy of this series. There is no reason to be interested in the politics or stakes because it will all work out for the protagonist anyhow. And any revenge taken against the cardboard cut outs we call antagonists in this story will just feel empty and boring at the end of the day.
The main bulk of the story so far is focused on the village that Remilia sets up and the way they gain power thorugh trade and political warfare. It is executed competently though I must admit that I am personally not the biggest fan of the genre itself. The art of the manga is generally quite good. It is a monthly series so there is a quality to the chapters that is definitely better than most weekly series. Sometimes there are truly breath taking panels with unique enemy design or very creative background choices. Sadly action is not really a main focus of this story, yet atleast, and as such these highlights don't seem to be making a comeback.
Overall I would say this manga is pretty solid. I personally expected a much more impressive story though, considering the 8.26 rating it currently has on this site. In my opinion while it has its highlights the current product is little more than a very competently made isekai manga, which I suppose only goes so far in being able to differentiate itself from the others in the genre.

TL;DR: Read this if you like good action scenes.
Do not be fooled by the title, this manga is not just your average power fantasy throw away series. This manga really goes for it. The story follows Beryl, who is an instuctor at a dojo in a small vlllage. Beryl gets scouted by one of his old disciples, who has made it quite far in her swordsmanship career, to be an instructor for the knights. We see how Beryl, convinced of his own incompetence, settles into this position and how his reputation as the unknown backwater swordsmaster gets him into all kinds of situations.
The premise
...
is very cliche. But the way this manga does it is anything but. What stands out immediately is how likeable the characters are, Beryl is not just your standard OP protagonist. He is much older than most protagonists and the manga actually takes this seriously. He is portrayed as an instructor type character. What the story also takes seriously is why people in the story like or look up to him. He is shown to genuinely be a great mentor and person. The other characters, both the side characters and the antogonists are interesting as well. They all have their own believable motivations that the reader can sympathize with.
But the true highlight is the action. This manga has some really well drawn and cool fight scenes. It is probably one of the best manga I have ever read in terms of having fights that the reader can actually follow along with. Each fight is just so fun and the moments that stand out are really cool, there is always a satisfying climax and part of the reason for this is that these scenes are paced really well. The fights usually last half a chapter if that, and you can really tell that a lot of attention was paid to the swordplay. Whether it makes any sense or not I couldn't tell you but it seems very believable and it is very constent.
The story is nothing special, but even here there is a quality that is not normally seen in works like this. Each event is concise and clearly explained. Nothing drags and it is always kept interesting. Character development is done through brief moments in fights and not through drawn out conversations or training arcs and backstories are usually wrapped up in a few pages.
Overall I would really recommend this manga. It is a super fun and surprisingly engaging read. Here is to hoping that the anime can afford the same kind of attention the action scenes.
