Person A with an unfortunate background, either homeless or always finding a place to stay night by night, getting picked up one night by a good-hearted Person B who has no intentions of taking advantage of A, very much contrary to A's previous experiences. B not only gives A a temporary place of safety, but helps position A to becoming capable of standing on their own. B opens A's eyes, showing them that the world is not all doom-and-gloom and (contrary to what A has come to believe), not everyone has ill-intentions. There are good people who will go out of their way for you,
...
without nefarious underlying motive, simply wanting the best for you.
This is actually my dream plot. I've considered it a lot in the past (daydreamt it really), so when something nearly identical came out as an anime, albeit with a highschool girl as opposed to someone legal, absolutely was the potential insanely high for me. That's why barely hitting a score of 8 is extremely telling. I'm not disappointed, I set no expectations, I highly enjoyed this anime, but God was so much of it poorly executed + not living up to the potential of the plot, especially with the criminal element added which gives the plot more possibilities.
First, I could not care less about the controversial aspect of the anime, as an it didn't detract from my enjoyment in any way. It's just an interesting plot setting that leaves room for contemplation; as an anime, I see no reason for disgust or offense, other than fear it may give ideas to some girls IRL (wanting to find their own Yoshida). Anyone who mentions the word pedophilia in regard to this anime is quite literally an idiot.
Anyways, briefly onto the the actual execution:
Characters 6/10: All the characters were good at their base, as in each character had a unique aura, good design, and plenty of potential to make for someone interesting. Keyword potential. The first few episodes were particularly good, but after that everyone starts to fall flat. By the end I literally question what the purpose of some of the main characters was - they provided some dialogue and content to fill episodes, but ultimately they didn't feel *needed*. At least all of the characters were squeezed into the last few minutes of the last episode, in a natural conclusive way, to boost their relevance and make it not like they disappeared off the planet. Overall nothing special.
Story 8/10: Again, such an interesting premise, and nearly my personal dream premise, but it really didn't do anything outstanding; I literally don't remember what half of the episodes were about. Some vital parts like delving into Sayu's past were awfully executed; I'm quick to hit the empathy department and get the tears running, but something about her past failed to grasp me, let alone illicit any tears. Perhaps it was the pacing, but in any case it was poor execution, because with better execution, it is absolutely something that would have gotten to me. At least the ending was well done; satisfyingly conclusive. I give the story an 8 still because everything developed well, despite having so many places where things could have gone bad very quickly. In other words, it never left me with a bad taste, only left me with no taste at times where taste was expected (or good taste otherwise).
Art 7/10: The art was really good, but in the later episodes I swear things started to change. Nothing awful, but proportions started to feel altered. Generally pretty, but nothing impressive (most scenes were stale backgrounds + relatively motionless characters talking).
Sound 7/10: I don't generally care much for OPs and EDs, but this had the best OP I have ever heard in anime. First anime that I never skipped the intro for. Still, to me the most important music in anime is the background music that you hardly even notice when watching, yet is vital to the emotions felt. This anime didn't really have any of that save for perhaps the last episode. Rare for me to not find many songs in an OST memorable.
8/10 because I very much enjoyed the anime, but given how beautifully it fit into my niche dream plot, it's a bit unfortunate it couldn't score higher (I give out 9s with ease). Very enjoyable for me, but quite poor execution in many places and, generally speaking, only very few things that stood out.
