-Both films take place in a bleak dystopian rendition of Tokyo, in which the police are powerless, and which has fallen into the hands of gangs. -Both stories follow groups of orphaned child gangsters, fighting for dominance over their cities from rival Yakuza groups. Each with a strong, pre-developed leader; and a headstrong ward whom he loves and protects, often from themselves. -Both stories contain a greater plot, which forces the young gangsters to fight for the future of their beloved cities.

Both very modern feeling. Characters use cell phones and the internet to communicate. Both contain a budding romance. Both have a light-hearted feel with occasional notes of dark seriousness.

Both stories focus on a young male protagonist, trying to save a love interest who is being used by the government as a deadly human weapon. Saishuu (You'd look up Saikano in English for whatever reason.) is much more deep in character, in emotion, and in romance; where Zaion is more an action-based story of two characters who chance to meet in the worst possible situations.

Both about teenagers in small Mech-like super suites fighting humanoid, bloodthirsty monsters. Similar animation and aesthetics.
