Similarities - > They both have generous doses of action and humour. > They both have interesting variety in action. > They both have elements of typical school anime. Differences - > The plot settings slightly differ. Accel World is set in a school/VR MMORPG background and Toaru Majutsu no Index in a super-power loaded city. > The main characters of the anime differ in their styles of thinking. In short, they are similar enough for you to enjoy both and distinct enough for you to not find one to be a rehash of the other.

Heroic Age
|
The major similarity between the two anime are their storylines, which are both based on destiny. The focus of each is to depict how the characters play into their fate. Minor similarities include warfare in space (which is more in Heroic Age) and a healthy depiction of the protagonist and his interaction with other people. Both have similar rates of plot revelation. The key difference in their depictions is that Heroic Age almost fixates on action and warfare, whereas RahXephon takes you through complex inter- and intra- character social relationships. The roles of characters are different in the two anime. You would not have to worry about knowing what's about to happen next. They both have soft endings that leaves you with similar after-tastes.

Mawaru Penguindrum
|
The essential 'flavour' of both anime is similar. They are both a confused and uncertain search for answers and exploration into the less well-understood. The manner of plot revelation is also similar, considering their timing and intensity. The main difference between them is that Mawaru Penguindrum is a more abstract, idealistic take on the above.

They have similar lead characters (Light Yagami, L and Lelouch) who are intelligent. They both involve mindgames between adversaries. They are both excellently well-scripted anime with a mind-boggling element of slow revelation of plot.

Isekai no Seikishi Monogatari

The Mecha elements of the two animes are similar. They both involve their main characters riding mechas that aren't properly understood by people about them. They are otherwise quite different, with Neon Genesis Evangelion involving a rather more serious storyline and much lesser instances of humour than Isekai no Seikishi Monogatari.

Sekirei
|
They both involve (to differing extents, though) fights between girls that are ranked in terms of fighting power. In both series, girls have different powers. Its different because Sekirei seems to focus less on the fights and more on harem/comedy elements. In contrast, the general tone of 'Claymore' is solemn.
