I am so ashamed that I overlooked this anime for so long. I never liked the whole gothic loli look of the cover picture and so I ignored it when this anime first came out. In fact I didn't even bother reading the synopsis back then- I was THAT put off by the picture. But, I had nothing to watch yesterday so I threw this on for the hell of it.
I have to admit the first few episodes were nothing special. It sets itself up as a Sherlock Holmes-esque murder mystery plot. But the mysteries themselves are incredibly easy to solve. Little did
...
I know I was being setup...
Somehow, out of nowhere, I was whisked away without warning into an incredibly well woven tale of political intrigue and emotional stimulation. I was hooked, deeply hooked, and I found myself powering through each episode. I didn't make dinner, I didn't go to bed at a decent hour and once I did finally go to sleep I woke up 3 hours ahead of my alarm just to watch some more. And here I am just having finished the last episode desperately trying to write a review that will hopefully entice people to watch this, despite their initial ho-hum impressions of the series based on the cover art.
This anime has quickly become one of my all time favorites. It's brilliantly written (albeit slow to start) and well executed. The character development is more than I usually see and the love story is beautiful. This anime had me laughing, crying and sobbing with delight. I felt like a menopausal woman having mood swings and hot flashes.
Now that it's over, I'm out of breath and deeply impressed.
