Many similarities. Older anime, historical France, one has a cross-dressing female swordsman and the other (Chevalier) has a similar character based on a transgender historical figure (except in this version, it's a man who becomes his sister as part of her soul's search for revenge.) They both may be slow going but are well worth it and they are underrated.

If you enjoy one I am sure you will enjoy the other. They have a very similar feel, both the setting and costume style are very much alike, the MCs are both strong-willed females who don't know how special they really are at the beginning. They have similar elements of magic (not an overwhelming aspect of either series, just an interwoven theme) and most importantly, both series are incredible and memorable.

They are so similar. I kept feeling like I was watching a spinoff of Ancient Magus' Bride. MCs are both sickly and have overwhelming magic power, both thrown into crazy situations, very similar settings and magic use is fairly subtle. You really have to give an episode or two a watch to see what makes them so strikingly parallel because it's hard to explain.

There are MANY similarities. -Magical girls -The art style is different but the concept of Pure Illusion is like the Labyrinths. They both feature the danger of real world death, and are therefore not entirely illusionary, but equally trippy and often terrifying. -The magical girls are all trying to get wishes granted (with more success in one show than the other ;)) -They collect something from the labyrinth/illusion (seeds/shards)

If you like one, you'll surely like the other. Both are about clueless, extraordinarily weak-willed and naive girls who secretly have incredible spiritual power who are taken as brides by youkai. Despite my obvious disdain for the MCs in both series, I love this plot and these series are both 10/10 for sheer enjoyment. The MC may be dumb but the rest of the characters are what makes these shows fantastic. Both series also have excellent quality animation. Mahoutsukai no Yome has some especially dramatic and gorgeous scenes toward the end of the series but both are lush and beautiful!!
